Padma Bhushan award for K.J. Yesudas

K.J. Yesudas is among 27 eminent Indians selected for the Padma Bhushan award this year. The names of the winners were announced as part of the Republic Day celebrations. This is a very fitting award for one of the greatest singers that India has ever produced. Congratulations, KJY!!

  it is sad to note the names of the other 19 padma bhushan award winners(presented by the president on wed 30th june, 04) are not mentioned in any of the news papers/magazines.

  admitted..jeyudas did make some of the songs memorable.but, should the major credit go to the music director/lyricist etc? not all songs jesudas has sung has been a hit..what does that imply? anyway..he made too much money for what he did..just singing lines written by someone to some one elses tune.. there a thousand talented people out there who can do that..and now hes tryin to get his son vijay(who, accordin to subbu, doesnt even speak malayalam properly)..why? this guy has made so much money already..lets make way for some new talent..they need a break too..goddam it..

  Malluboy, I don't agree with that jibe about Vijay Yesudas. I saw him on Surya TV ('savarigirigiri' programme), and he was speaking excellent Malayalam. By the way his effective mother tongue is Tamil (lived all his life in TN).
  He sings well too. Do not let the lineage of KJY cloud our judgement. Assess VJ with his own merit.
  I find him better than most of the recent Tamil singers.

  I entirely agree with Manu that one should be judged on one's own merit not on pedigree. And there is actually very little evidence to conclude that Jesudas is doing anything unethical to boost his son's career. However he has been around for a while in environs naturally conducive to music and I'd be very surprised if he scales those heights that truly great singers do! I don't think he has it in him! If anything he is at the level of singing something akin to "Lajjavathiye" but it was Jasi who took the cake for the latter.
  I maintain that his command over malayalam is absymal. And I also maintain that it is absurd that the family demands royalty for KJY's songs!
  As for those who have attacked me in these pages for my comments, none of you presented an argument. Ergo, you don't deserve a response! I'm not interested in personal attacks...or defence!

  I think your commments are totally out of line. Vinod Yesudas is one of the most humble men I know. He never acted spoiled nor required respect, due to his father's glory. Rather, he earned every bit of respect other students gave him. Being from a "rich and famous" family in India, Vinod never forgot the ideals his parents has instilled in him... that of a decent, honorable gentleman. He paid respect to his elders, did not speak ill of others, greeted everyone(rich or poor), and not once flaunted his family's money.
  
  I went to the supposed "third rate" university you so speak of, in regards to Vinod's academics. The University of Miami is neither Harvard nor Yale; however, it is from this very institution in which many are graduating as doctors--saving lives.
  
  In that...perhaps you should get to know the person, befor you throw around adjectives which aren't related to the subject.
