HI GROWN UP GUY,
I think you have made the joke of the new millenium so far when you said that successful movies are those which echo the thoughts of the society. If you have a decent memory you will know that the hits of 99 were padaiyappa and vaali. I dont know what thoughts of the society they reflected. I cant understand what sentiments of the society are reflected when hundreds of group dancers are gyrating behind the hero and heroine.
As far as Tamil movies are concerned they are not reflections of the society. They are nothing but FANTASIES and Romanticisation of poverty and illiteracy . How then can you explain the situation where a poor moron loves a rich and beacutiful girl and gets here. They have never been reflections of society.
And nobody asked anyone to like every song of IR. What we asked was just to listen to his latest album and then comment about it be it positive or negative. How can you comment about something and pass it off as substandard by just the name. DONT EVER JUDGE A PRODUCT OR PERSON BY ITS NAME OR APPEARANCE. This indeed is the bane of the contemporary society. People have lost their individuality. They have lost the capacity to jude things on their own. They require somebody else to judge things for themselves. That is why people have the tendency to follow what others are doing without thinking about it themselves.
Marketing is only one way of selling a product. ARR may be doing it blatantly always. But I feel that it is not needed always. If you will remember, SEthu was released only in three theatres initially that too only as noon show. IT got no magazine reviews or television coverages. Later people who saw it spread the message that it is a good movie and it made more people see it. The magazines and television woke up and it got rave reviews. Now it has become a auper hit. That is what we have to do for our Maestro. Even though ordinary movies like Karisakaatu Poove may not be marketed like Hey Ram, atleast we can listen to it and if it is good we can tell our friends that there is good music to be heard. But what you are doing is just to pass it off as not catchy without even listening to it. I can swear that "Ayiram Kodi" in this picture is more melodious, catchy and rhythmic than any song in Alaipuyuthe or Kandukonden kandukonden.
And then, why should IR retire. He has undergone many evolutions as a MD and he has changed his style of music making so many times. Even after 10 years of the arrival of ARR, still people are debating whether ARR or IR is the best. This itself is a tribute to the maestro.
What i cannot understand is how a CRAP MD like
SA rajkumar who churns out the same songs again and again and that too in the old style is accepted by the masses And when DEva gives hit after hit of copied songs, people are saying that he has copied the songs in style. This only indicates the deplorable state of our society. What more can I say.
But please ,somebody listen to the latest album and give your comments.

vimal, I respect ur feelings, at the same time i have to differ in some of ur thoughts, ppl listening to the good songs not as u said eve-teasing or party songs, dont say raja songs didnt have these stuff at all, he went down to put "kovanam" and all in his songs...:) we "enjoyed" them right?? recent songs have been so good except the fact it has been "lifted"... there is no rule that only raja songs only should be good... and it seems that u dont want good song like gayathiri ketkum but a some crap which will be a hit.. :) kc and mvu cassettes were very much available when the audio was released.. if u have searched for them after its "successful" seven days at the theatre, it could be ur fault :)
Remake of any old film might result in failure incl. MGR and SIVAJI films, so dont blame mohan for that fact, u seems to be frustrated by "sentiment" stories, "simple" titles.. please understand onething the success of any movie is not in the base story, its in the way it has been told.

Ganesh,
I guess it's hi time u saw hey ram in a movie hall with a good sound system. Hey ram's score is one of the best scores ever done by raja. U want me to tell u in what scenes had the symphonic scores ??

Shankar,
I was about to write the same thing to Ganesh
about Hey Ram.May be for him, the screaming sounds
of ARR is the best bgm to relish and is the
symphony style music.
Also for Ganesh, I would like to add one more
thing. The people who are not working with IR(like who prefer ARR for marketability) are themselves
on the verge of losing market(like MR).Ofcourse
KB is already retired as far as films are
concerned though he occasionally attends
some functions and makes statements like musicians
like ARR will come only once a century(and may
be that is the reason they can recycle anything
that has been composed previously during that century !). And the less we talk about BR, the better it will be. He is in deplorable state
and hardly has made any movie worthwhile after
moving away from IR.
May be Ganesh should read the article that came in aaramthinai and whose link was provided
in this thread.

Dear Shankar And Athi
I would appreciate if u can tell me where and all the symphony piece comes in Hey Ram. The only genuine one is during that song 'Polladha Madana Banam'.I am also a big fan of IR ,I grew up listening to his music and I have no bias against anyone. I consider myself a fair and honest critic. I own and buy most of his non album CDs the last one I bought is India 24hrs its excellent and interesting piece ,score written by IR and conducted by Mr Singh. The recording is very good (recorded in Bombay) not those lousy studios he normally records.
Anyway my choice will be Nothing but Wind, why cant IR then produces songs like 'Andhi Mazhai' from Rajaparvai or 'Ananda Ragam' today,I am sure people will like and appreciate that kind of songs. But the fact is that he seems to be totally lost and depressed right now thats why these uninspiring music from him.
I am not interested what Mr X and Mr Y said about IR,I think artist should be judged by his work and not what others comment about him.
Now lets be true here.
By the way is there anysite which has his latest songs from the movie 'Karisa Kattu poove'

Ganesh,
Now that u've asked for it.... (this includes symphonic pieces and pieces which one can consider some of the best produced so far )
1) The opening scene, ie., before any action starts in the screen, kamal sings ragupathi rAghav .... and then this awesome piece follows (with some chorus ) goes for around a minute.
2)RaNi's introduction.
3) rANi-kamal romance pieces.
4)Calcutta Riots -1: When kamal takes a sikh girl in a bike...check out the score there.
5)Calcutta riots -2 : When kamal enters his house...a solo cello piece, giving a gloomy effect.
6)calcutta riots -3 :When saket helplessly watches his wife being murdered. The scene when he bangs his head in the piano.
The symphonic score begins now....
7)Riots -5: When he pushes the moslem guy from the top of the building.
8) Changes to meloncholy when he runs into her room and starts frantically searching for help.
9) Turns wagnerian (ie., giving a warlike mood ) when the camera moves from the top of the building covering all the floors ,showing the corpses of the slaughtered ppl.
10) continues when kamal goes in search of altaf and reaches a crescendo when the camera moves over a burning mosque and shows a group of ppl chasing moslems and some moslem kid being thrown into a burning house.
11)continues till he meets shriram abhyankar.
12) When shriram abhyankar starts saying abhivAdayE vishwAmitra...., the percussions start.
13) The score continues when kamal runs from the place.
All these from the first 45 minutes of the movie or may be less.....
Will give more details about the instruments used later....

Dear Prabhakar and ECHO,
I do accept my comments on 'Hit movies Reflecting the Thoughts of the society ' is sodhappals. But as Prabhakar himself wrote:
"
DONT EVER JUDGE A
PRODUCT OR PERSON BY ITS NAME OR APPEARANCE. This indeed is the bane of
the contemporary society. People have lost their individuality. They have lost the capacity
to jude things on their own. They require somebody else to judge things for themselves.
That is why people have the tendency to follow what others are doing without thinking
about it themselves.
Marketing is only one way of selling a product".
I think we both are coherent in this point of view. I feel IR needs to have publicity, big time.
For example, ARR's Indian is a sackful of crap and junk. Irritating songs with no soul whatsoever. But was a super hit because of the Publicity, and also the banner was prestigious, with an ace director(so-called).
Again, I reinsist Karisakkattu poove maybe a great album.. what do you think of "Chinna Durai" or "Bharani" etc.. do you really think a Maestro like IR even deserves to even bother for movies like these? that too after 800 movies?
If you recollect "Thalapathi", maybe I can succeed in driving home my point.
"Meettatha Oru Veenai" is a mind-blowing song, but wasted on Murali and Devayanai...
Dudes, a Maestro who has composed for the Royal Philaharmonic Orchestra doing music for PVasu's movies is an not a very good idea.

Got 'Karisak kaattup poovee., ' somehow in Hyderabad. :-)
'Vaanam Paarththa' sung By IR is my pick of the album. Wonderful tune. Enna oru voice intha manushaNukku., Soogamaana varikaLudan azukiRaar., santhooshamaana varikaLoodu seernthu sirikkiRaar. Kuralileeyee aththanai uNarchchikaLaiyum koNdu varukiRaar. :-) Simply GGGreat.,
One song like this per album koduththaalee poothum Raja. IR fans will never get disappointed.
Other Features I liked in the Album.
** Hariharan simply Enjoys singing 'Aaayiram koodi., '. Good song., Naturalllllly flowing tune and great work by HH. Rajavin Fluteyum seernthu Azhakaay paadukiRathu :-). However, I donno how much this song will fit the movie. Odd song OUT. !
** Lyrics are pretty decent. But Kasthuri Raja ezuthinathaiyee eththanai naaLaikku ezuthik koNdiruppaar ? (Maaman magan., Avaraip poo., pulluk kattu., KaNdaangi selai., kaNdukkaama pooRee., maappiLLai., pompaLai., Oothak kaaththu., othungip peesa oru idam., vampu pesa veeNdaam - ivvaLavuthaan KR-in vocabulary pola ;-)))
** Anuradha Shriram 100% Fits to song 'Eththanai maNikku.,'. IMO., she is better than Swarnalatha for this. Kural appadiyee konjchukiRathu. When she sings 'Thannaanee thaanananneeeeee.,', Ezunthu aadalaam pola irukkiRathu. Kiraameeyap paadalkaLil., she will be the next Janaki I feel. (NOM., :-) Debut singer Anitha (W/O Pushpavanam Kuppusamy) has also done a decent work in 'Kuchchanooru.,'
** Pushpavanam Kuppuswamy shows no variation in his voice at all :-) Suresh Peters enDRu oru singer irunthaar. Avarum ippadiyeethaan Achchadiththa maathiri ellaa paattaiyum oree maathiri paadi, ippoothu kaaNaamalee poi vittaar. Ithai yaaraavathu PKS-kku nyapakap paduththinaal nallathu., :-)
** Unni-Bhava Duet 'Maamaraththilee., ' is No.2 Song in this album IMO,. Simple instruments mattumee use seythiruppathum, Unni, BhavathaariNiyin uRchaakamaana kuralkaLum ARputham., ! Raja, Ippoothum thaanthaan king of Melody enpathai meeNdum niruupiththirukkiRaar.
** 'Un KeNdaik kaalu.,' is a perfect DABBAANGUTHHTU Song we expect for such a movie. Mano and Swarna have made it really Good. However, don't forward the song just like that. There is a very good piece of tune at the end of both the saraNams, Melody and Beats maaRi maaRi varukiRathu, Without any problems in their mix. !!! RAJA Touch., !
** To be Frank, I didn't expect Raja will give such good efforts for songs in this album. Enakku Intha Album oru inba athirchchi. :-) Vaazhka Raaja. !!!!!!
