Guys
R these exchanges necessary.
It is clear vimarasagan taste is different from ours - Y should we ridicule him.
IMHO, any amount of exchanges here in this thread would spoil the thread, please restrain yourself.
vimarasagan
There are upteen thread in tfm - choose one to your taste - perhaps nandha, Dheena (YSR New) or Parthale Paravasam (ARR New) will help.
Cheers

I think kAsi is a very good album. Agreed, the arrangements and orchestration style is the usual IR style. Looks like IR wanted to carry this album only on the strength of the tunes alone. He is probably upset about people just 'changing the sound' and not really 'composing' anything in a new song. This is the reason I think he gives a hint of modern beat in one song, used the same arrangement as in a karagattakkran song for maanu thOlu. But the tunes that have been 'composed' are 'new'. IR wants us to concentrate on the tune. That is the msg in this album.
Except for 'en mana vaanil' I liked all the songs. Hariharan really messed up 'naan kaanum ulagangal' song ..and malaysia could run circles around HH in the rokkam irukkara ..Gone are those days with SPB, KJY and MV in one single movie :(.

". IR wants us to concentrate on the tune. That is the msg in this album. '
the only message I seem to get from IR in this album is "if you give me the same old stories, i'll give you the same tunes recycles" :-)
I can perfectly understand a guy like Vimal's feelings after hearing this albu...this could have been composed by one of IRs assistants..songs like "rokkam irukara", you feel that you have he ard them a dozen times before..standard beat structure, kind of like in "oru gundumani kulunguthadi" fom avathaaram..and "en manvaanil" sounds a bit inspired from the song "bol radha bol sangam", again an already heard tune..
someone saidit correctly..its easily one of the "stale"st albums from IR in recent times..even Aandan adimai had a passable number in "Undhan raajyathil"..

KASI is an average effort from Raja. We have heard folk songs from him with richer orchestration(Indha Maan(KaragataKaran)).
I thought in "Azhagi" he came out with some nice numbers.
To me this is a clear reflection of his state of mind. Apparent lack of interest maybe.
The fact that he was able to sustain this mindless onslaught by the so called new generation "group" composers is by itself a testament to his endurance.
He should think of giving up and slowly fading away. And maybe(Alapa Aasai), one more Raja Paarvai kinda effort in collobration with Kamal.

Guys,
I dont understand ur concern reg azhagi and kasi, at all. What i feel is the songs fit the story and the KALAM of those movies. U can't expect a village blind man sings a song with lot of percussions and modern drum beats, right? Avanukku therinchathu ellaam, mElam, koTu kind of vaatthiyangal thaan, illayaa? Since u expect modern music, it doesn't mean that the songs are bad or IR is out of form. What a crazy kind of thinking, it is? If u want to understand the songs, try to visualize the movie background. IR is not such a kind of crap MD, who puts tunes crazily for a village based movie. Even in lot of threads, i have seen that, whenever it comes to kiraamatthu paatu or dappanguthu kind of song, u guys start criticising them like anything. I dont understand at all. Kiraamatthu padatthukku, manvaasanaiyulla songs thaanyaa kudukka mudiyum. Karakaattakkaaran padatthula, "maanguyilae poonguyilae" paatu irunthaa athu kuttham. Crap song!!! Athae, "Indha maan unthan sontha maan" paatu superb!!! Ennayyaa, unga understanding. The same kind of criticism came for azhagi too. Most of the guys expressed "kuruvi kodanja" song as a crap. How come u decide upon? U still dont know the situation of the song and dont know about for whom the song is for??? Chumma, nadodiyaa, kuravan kuratthi paadura paataa irukkalaam illiyaa? Neenga modern-aa change aayitteenga appideengirathukkaaka, IR-um, padatthula, scene-ukku apt-aa irukko illiyo, sema mettu onnu podanum appidinnu ethirpaarthaa, eppidinga sir??:)
For Kasi, as someone in some thread told, the songs are for a blind man and not for a chinnathambi kind of guy, who has isaignanam. IR might have put the tunes for that character as explained by the director. Summa, inga ukkaandhuttu, IR lost his magic touch, IR lost his sense, IR should quit, bla, bla, bla appidinnu sollittu irukkirathu niyaayamaa??
Just have a think about it. IR might have chosen HH for Kasi, by knowing his so called "nasal" voice, no? Becos, he might have a thought that HH fits the character of a blind man, we always see in Metro trains and streets. Since they are blind, they dont know anything about BHAAVAM. May be HH is the best fit for it. May be in the movie, Vikram might have sung the songs without much variations in his expression. That's the way it should be. I bet u guys, the songs would be the best fit for both the movies.-- IMHO. Wait and see.....:)
To me, both azhagi and kasi are very good albums. May be for u guys, u have to hear the songs some more times, without any bias and most importantly, pl dont have a thinking about other albums like RAJAPAARVAI, etc., while listening azhagi and kasi.
See u later......

Vimarsagan, do you really think Sadhana Sargam sang that song badly (pattu solli)... I was about to post that she had sung that song well (referring to the tamil pronounciation)

Nice Mail Saran.
Azhagi'la Sadhana Sargam's pronunciation bad'na, what about her pronounciation in other tf she has sung. Machaangala paathu criticize pannunga'pa.
Anyway, in the movie, the heroine is Nanditha Das and in 1 song she even talks french. So don't you think a little bit of an accent is apt?
And from this thread, is it right, that people here are of the opinion, that rich orchestration is a prerequisite for good music? C'mon guys. I think Orchestration itself is a Western concept. Where 'rich orchestration' finds a place in a movie like Kaasi beats me!
Most of the other present Mds would have been tempted to go for fancy beats etc to suit the market, but not so Maestro- He should be complimented for that rather than censured and called a 'Peraasai pudichavar'.
And Mr Vijay, seems to be under the impression that anyone can come up with a beat every other song , more so a veteran of 800 odd movies. Well Mr Vijay, you will make a good politician especially when you are sitting in the opposition.

Hi all,
I just listened to the "casual" "talk" of SPB and Ilayaraja - wow...! Thanks very much for the person who made it!!!I was disappointed that the recording was only for a few minutes. I would like to hear the whole lot,if possible. These two excel in such occasions and many times, they do it far better than the original song itself. I remember that at least on two occasions, SPB did better on his own "maNNil intha kaathal anRi..." - I think music just flows through them, day in and day out. Should have some mechanism whereby we can preserve these two (at least their voice and music talent) for eternity....
Ganesh.

saran and 12bums....just see what one single bad post in a good thread can cause. I think we all need to take unanimous decision to merit a post for its worthiness for a reply, before we react. Mostly people who want some attention set up traps like these(yes i am talking about the post by vimarsagan). Every time we see a "crap" post, we need to merely ignore it. Thats the way, i think, to curb all these insane arguements. Do we need to prove anybody that IR provides sophisticated, premium quality music be it folk, WCM or carnatic. Genuine music lovers know what IR's music is all about. I can only pity those people who missed the songs KAASI or AZHAGKI based on some careless posts like the one we saw recently.

I was just going thru all the postings in the page..Well, it seems that some of the guys think that kasi wasnt up to the mark.
In India, the casette is selling like hot cakes and it seems it will break all the records. And as far as the news from the film industry is , "KASI " MUSIC is gonna be a smash Hit...
