  Instead of just presenting the awards, I would like to use this opportunity to analyse the results and at times also ffer my personal opinion. I propose to present the awards in an inverted format, meaningthe least interesting will come first..... :-)
  
  Okay here it goes-
  
  Best Dappangkuththu Song
  
  A total of 17 people voted in this category. Of which only two songs received more than one nomination. This clearly shows the dearth of good dappangkuththu songs in 1997. It also shows the trend of Tamil movies in recent times. And the winner is:
  
  Song: Ayya voodu thoranthuthaan irukku
  No. of nominations: 11
  Singers: Ilayaraja
  Music: Ilayaraja
  Movie: Kaathalukku Mariathei
  Closest contender: Athaanda ithaanda from Arunachalam with two nominations

  A total of 18 people voted in this category. This category again showed very few consistent nominations and the winning entry led by a large margin. I dread to think that TFM is moving away from this form of music, which is the basis of Tamil culture. And the winner is:

  This category saw 13 entries. I expected Ilayaraaja to win hands down as he is the supremo in this category. Unfortunately most people could not agree which particular song of his was the best, with the result of the winner being a non-IR song. :-)) Of particular interest to me is that in this first three categories all three main MDs of TFM got an award each! And the winner is:

  Another category which saw very few entries. The song that topped the list was not even a full song! This must only mean that there are lots of happy movies in TF these days. :-)) And the winner is:

  This category saw an easy winner as the song that impressed many people. But the good days of great thathuvaa songs are really gone. :-( The winner is:
