Whatever happened to Illayaraja's symphony?

  Now we are starting to go round and round. Some IR fan claimed that IR has done so many albums and that genius means 'giving more number of songs in less time'. Mind you, I did not say this, an IR fan said. First go read the df properly before you reply to this.
  
  Then, I asked: okay so, since IR is not doing so many movies nowadays,does it mean that he is not performing???
  
  You guys say,"no no no, IR is selecting his scripts, thats why he is not doing many movies"
  
  So, I ask,"So, does it mean that the past 25 years, IR has done kuppai movies with kuppai songs, thats why he has done 750+ movies"
  
  Then some IR fan claims that IR may have done kuppai movies in the past, but still produced excellent songs.
  
  I agree with the excellent songs part. But my question is, what about the thousands of songs that did not make any impression at all... Even worse, what about all those vulgar songs he has done (ex.ulle veliye).
  
  So do you guys still argue that genius means quantity of songs over a period of time???

  artifact or artifact is something which is given tremendous importance.it is like the "kohinoor diamond" or like the "taj mahal".
  in olden days the kings used to fight for the so called artifacts,which is given more importance
  then the whole of the country.

  the time you saw this word "artifact" you quickly ran to check for the meaning in the dictionary that's why you ended up in looking stupid.
  
  artefact or artifact = relic, a work of art.
  
  who knows you'd come up with another crap statement such as
  "look at this guy he is comparing rahman as the business of india,is rahman concerned with economics or is he calculating profit or losss"
  and you'd laugh yourself looking like the backside
  of a baboon.

  It is not the number of movies that makes IR great..it is not his orchestration..it is not that he can write notations instead of playing..it is not that he is an expert in WCM that he can compose symphonies..
  IR is great when the music touches a chord in your heart..All logical (or illogical) arguments with fellow DFers on this is futile..
  Forget about symphony or IR and please listen to whatever music you like the most.

  Going by the same logic, can you ask all IR fans to stop posting on ARR threads? Please try to do that, then perhaps I will stop... For, this is what IR fans are doing: posting all kinds of anti-ARR messages in ARR forums.

  Out of 8000 songs, 1000 songs didnt make a impression. Uh! Thats why we call him a genius and you are worrying about only the 1000 songs that didnt make a impression. Why dont you start hearing the other 7000 songs! They are absolutely mind boggling (FYI).

  'Ulle Veliye'-- is there such a song by IR with this title, or was the Dude referring to all the songs in the movie. I don't know any of the songs in 'Ulle Veliye' (I've heard just a snippet of 'Sakkarakatti'). But some guy called Singaram said in an ancient thread that all songs in that film are good.

  This is the problem with IR fans. Nobody knows about the scores and scores of bad numbers IR has done. Everyone listens to a set of very good songs he has composed and claim that IR has done 'so many' songs. You guys just close your eyes and ears to all the crap songs.

  BTW, I was referring to all the songs in the movie. Purv, probably for IR fans, they may be very good. They are no more than what S.A.Rajkumar or Sirpi can compose.
  
  Or are you guys going to claim that Ulley veliye songs are simply out of the world, a very good example of IR's folk songs, blah blah blah... I would not be surprised if you guys claim so. If IR really reads scripts before accepting movies, he should have burnt this script after reading it. But actually, I must agree that all the songs really suit the situations in the movie. A crap movie with vulgar scenes and picturisation, and songs that are apt for this movie.
  
  I am waiting for you guys to say "Even in such a kuppai movie, IR gave excellent songs". In fact, I hope you do ;-)

  I surely think "Genius != more number of Songs in less time"
  But dont you think "Genius may be More quality songs which stood test of time and was composed in a relatively less time, when presented with the same situation over and over again, and the person composing is his own competition.
  Has any other person done this? (may be yes, but would surely like to know).
  
  It might not appeal each and every soul in India, atleast it did to the targeted audience!!
  
  And this is the problem with ARR fans, now they would start saying, TN people dont have tastes, they are so bad in music quality or listening pleasure, In fact, I hope they do.

  yeh kalaa kalaa kannadicha kalaa kalaa, was big hit during my college days and i still remember the lyrics part startign frm 'neranja raavula selam jillavula'.
  ulley veliyae was a very big hit for parthiban after many flop movies and he was criticised for making a vulgar movie. though i dont agree with the vulgarity part my claim is that the movie as wel as the songs were big hits.if u say UV as kuppai then BOYS too is kuppai.

  i never understand y ppl. count number of films for gr8ness.....i think IR is gr8 bcos he silenced MSV, gave fresh folk music and that's it....... i dunt care for the numbers he made.......MIL u have to accept that Tamil ppl. dunt understand fusion music, hardcore western music and they absolutely dunt have an idea abt. ARR's style of composing....... they brand his music "computer generated"...that's where their ignorance comes out.... even subbudu once casually commented that ARR's music is from comp......... hahahahaha wat a foolish old man is he.........

  You are right, Tamil ppl dont understand what fusion music is, hardcore western is and they surely dont have a clue of ARR's composing.

  I dont need to accept your opinion about how much Tamizh ppl understand, All I would try and say is If a person has to survive in a stiff competition he should be churning out chart-busters each and everytime.. like how Isai puyal did some years back.. if they donot they will surely loose popularity.. but sometimes some songs/music remain classics no matter what, but unfortunately IR gave one-too many..
  
  Again it is not against ANY MD OF TF. and i dont want to be derogatory or hurt ANY MD'S fans.. coz i LIKE SOME OF THEIR SONGS TOO.

  You need to listen to tamil music or South Indian music (includes BGM just not songs) for the last 20 odd yrs (from early 1980s to early 2000s to understand "tamils" appreciate fusion or not. I am great fan of both IR and ARR... they have created of lot of music which is good by any standards. I dont think they are creating the same kind of music they used to create these days. For instance ARR, after Alaipayuthey, some songs of KM (infact a good album) and one or two decent songs of Boys (though its not one of his exceptional albums) others were disaster. I think he is experimenting alot these days and not keeping it simpler like he used to do and still experiment. IR is the same he is not creating alot of good albums since 1993 or 94. Its just few good albums and albums with one or few good songs which have been upto his standard. Unfortunately none of the new MDs can match these geniuses. And many listen to YSR, HJ and VS because they have made some good albums in this period and no wonder they appreciate them. I dont see any wrong in this. Not every album produced by ARR or IR is good. Its just good to have competition.
  
  One more maddy, if you could provide some technical insight of what do you think is "good" fusion (and some few examples) and what "tamils" have not understood, instead of just saying "tamils" dont understand fusion. It will enlighten "tamils" and make "tamils" understand fusion.
