ARR's interview after BD :
http://server1.msn.co.in/balcony/tamilcinema/articles/Rahman.asp
Q: Personally how do you feel is the response to your score in Bombay Dreams?
Ans: Initially, there were diverse opinions on the music. But we have to understand that it is a different kind of music for many of them here and it will take time getting used to. It did, actually. The music is also not entirely Indian. It is also not totally Western oriented. I guess the success can be gauged by the fact the tickets have been sold for the next two months.
Q: Are you planning to take Bombay Dreams elsewhere too?
Ans: A Disney company is interested in taking this to New York. In all probability, Bombay Dreams will be played in New York next year. Work is progressing for that pretty quickly.
Q: There is a general feeling that your growth in Tamil films has hit a plateau...
Ans: Well, that is a feeling. Obviously, I cannot do many things simultaneously. I am also not interested in crowding my plate with too many projects. I am keen to work with only those who are ready for the hard grind. Those who aim for excellence.
Q: But you have worked in films like Baba from here. How did you do that?
Ans: It was quite interesting. I normally passed on my ideas to my assistants in Chennai over the phone. They scored the music as per my instructions and sent it back to me through the Internet. Then I made some corrections, if needed. In the end, I guess it was a good experience.
Q: How have the songs come?
Ans: It is not for me to say that. Personally, I feel they are soft and melodious numbers, different from what they were for Padayappa.
Q: There were reports that lyricist Vairamuthu was not happy with the way you were working...
Ans: Yes, it is true. I tried to get the lyrics for the songs over phone. He was not satisfied with that. He felt hamstrung. I think he may not have the patience to work with me anymore.
Q: Your sister has also become a music director now. How do you feel?
Ans: Good. My wishes to her. I hope that she comes up with good scores.

I listened to the songs. Shakalaka baby is an MTV type song. When you present that to international audience i don't think anyone is going to be impressed. Because there are 1000s of such songs.
It has to be unique. None of the song sounds Indian. I am sure compared to Monsoon Wedding Audio sale Bombay Dreams Audio will fall flat.
ARR became famous in bollywood because of his fast beat MTV type songs like Arabi Kadaloram, Mukkabala, Chayya Chayya, Musthafa, Rukmani Rukmani, Oohlala. These type of songs better heard in Spanish and English as the singers are so vibrant. Listen to Shakira's 'Suerte'. Nelly Furtado's 'Turn off the lights'. Pink's 'Get the Party Started'. The Corrs 'Leave me Breathless'
Vaness Carlton's 'Thousand miles', Sheryl Crowe's
'Soak up in the rain'. Probably you won't listen to ARR again. These beat songs are current hit songs here. They are far better to listen to than ARR's shakalaka baby.

I just got bombay dreams cd from my friend in Wales., I loved Shakalaka baby because it was not a discovery channel type song, so musical. English version is better and it is already popular in my office in US. everyone like this song and asked why does this song does not appear in MTV. They feel It will surely top MTV Top 10 and billboard top 15
my friend once told, Arr perfectly knows how to make you foot tap. he is dam right.
about was a personal opinion. Those who don't like it ignore it.
