ARR Fans have been accused of being less than 20 years of age and not having the maturity to appreciate IR's works. While this is not completely true, the fact is that many of the new generation TFM listeners haven't had the opportunity to earlier IR works. Maybe we can blame time !
I have compiled a list of IR's 'rockish' and contemporary numbers, which according to me would appeal to any younger generation TFM listener.
IR fans can add to the list with their takes on what makes the song special. If possible with links where the songs can be listened to.
Let a healthy discussion prevail !

a,
"Well I don't how u found ARR orchestration better than IR"
this statement is not there in my posting, not even hidden anywhere.
my point is : "but can say the younger generation are identifying something other than the tune, orchestration etc."
the tune maybe good, the orchestration maybe good, yet the song fails to appeal to the current generation. there is something a little bit extra they are expecting. that 'ganneer' sound which hits you when you listen !
lets get back to the thread topic - which IR songs appeal to the younger generation.

Folks ..I wrote this in aonther thread "Why wouldnt people like IRs music " ? or something to that effect ..It applies to this thread as well, I think. Let me see how you guys feel about this -
-------------------------
Anyways, here is my take on this -
* every new generation wants to listen to a different kind of music than what their parents listened to ..just youthful rebelliousness
* IR has been around and his style/arrangements have become familiar (inspite of him reinventing himself so many times)
* he still believes in giving importance to melody more than the rhythm. TFM started by lightening up classical music and IR continues to do that. Even now his melodies or rAgam based songs have a traditional tabla arrangement. This I think he does to appeal to the classically oriented. But probably not going down well with the younger generation. For eg. all songs in mouna rAgam are drums/guitar based than the nilAvE vaa.
* his songs are also done with a WCM orientation..kinda like various movements..the interludes especially..but this is not something will appeal to casual listeners (I have seen people here in TFM, specifically mention that IR should continue the rhythm throughout the interludes. But this is something boring to IR, I think, and he does this only for dance/fast songs).
* quite a few people have some snobbish attitude of not listening to pure Indian sounds..they dont understand the totally english songs as well..so they support some 'stylised' tamil songs :(
* the lyrics in IR songs are not as 'trendy' too.
* and ARR is not bad :)

Decent discussion here.. good idea of a topic cosmician..

GUYS if u see the tunes of IR on paper ....many will be brilliant for even todays youth....coz they are oure ,clean, powerful compositions directly coming from his heart , but not manipulated and edited....but only the presentation should be changed a lot....coz IR is old he is unable synchronize with youth's craze....I think he better write music on paper first(like he usually does)and then better give it to YSR and give him total freedom to present at level of HOOBANSTANK,LINKIN PARK etc...(Not even KR)...YSR will present it in smashing way like dheena songs !! hee hee !!

The following are some IR songs to listen to if you are in a pensive mood. I may be a little off for the topic, but what the heck!
1. Enna Satham Indha Neram - the lyrics, SPB, gentle & simple song.
2. Kanne Kalaimaane - again, lyrics, simplicity of the song - I miss that in many of today's songs
3. Vellai Pura Ondru - Kalyani, beautiful tune, flute intro is neat.
4. Ennai Thalaata Varuvala - I like the interludes
5. Kalyana Maalai Kondadum Penne
6. Nilavu Thoongum Neram
7. Pani Vizhum Iravu - 'Mouna Raagam' between Mohan and Revathi, great song.
8. Mandram Vandha Thendralukku - another Mouna Raagam favorite
9. Thendral Vandhu Ennai Thodum - Hamsanadham, wonderful, lilting song
10. Sundari Kannal Oru Seidhi - Kalyani (or Yaman), haunting flute finish in the song is super!
I am just going through my playlists and typing them out here (I have one for each mood, raaga, etc.), really enjoying doing this!
