"If you speak in plain language (imagine jus saying a poem like talking rather than reciting it), it doesn't make sense cos everything u say sounds literal and hence stupid. You need the 'song' to turn it to a poem."
Wrong again. You DONT need the 'song' to turn it to a poem. A poem is a goodie by itself. It can be read and enjoyed, not necessarily 'said' or 'recited'. Letting one's imagination fly is not 'stupid', that is what separates a poet from others. We are discussing only a genre of TFM lyrics here. And your contribution here so far has been... zilch. You have stated your observations/viewpoint, agreed. But note that you have used harsh words like "spastic", "stupid" etc. in your posts. Is that civil ? Harsh words beget harsher words. You only got what you deserved.
"And I assume the reason for tis was probably the use of the word 'stupid' in the quote...talk about taking things literally."
Oh, dear me, I did'nt know that your posts were poems, not to be taken literally. According to this new theory which you just invented, your posts in this thread can be set to appropriate raagams and sung. Because they are stupid, the 'songs' will become poems, and the people here will not take it literally anymore. May be Voltaire was singing too, because what he said really sounds stupid. Yeah, his quote is a poem, of course.
PS: Take this post literally.

"A poem is a goodie by itself. It can be read and enjoyed, not necessarily 'said' or 'recited'"
Very true vgs. But I did not know I was commenting on poetry read from books. I thought I was commenting on the lyrics of Tamil Cinema Songs, which to my understanding are not read from books, but sung by playback singers and consumed thro the ears. So sung is a very appropriate word here.
"But note that you have used harsh words like "spastic", "stupid" etc"
Yes I have used those words but the context of it was to illustrate a point in order to bring out what stupid in that quote was refering to. Obviously ur understanding of my posts is nil, as I deduce from this statement.
"Harsh words beget harsher words"
Really? Maybe u r forgetting tat I did not use 'stupid' or 'spastic' to describe u people. Whereas that is exaclty what u guys did. Fortunately I am not the sort that's easily bothered by a bunch of venom spewing morons, especially those who need to make constant references to genital organs in every post. How pathetic.
"I did'nt know that your posts were poems, not to be taken literally"
You know what? They are not. However going by ur profound understanding of my previous posts, I am not surprised that u distorted what I said to mean such a thing.
"stupid to be spoken"
is a simile. I'm shocked that u experts at poetry can miss a simile. Similes are not just used in poetry. They are used in everyday life as well. You use it in daily life when u say things like I am so hungry I can eat a wolf. So will anyone in their right mind call the animal rights group to make a complaint cos tis person has jus announced he'll be eating a wolf?? Poetry is required when the simile sounds too ridiculous to be understood and it does not occur naturally in a sentence. That is what the quote is about.
However u remain welcome to distort, contort and make a mockery out of my post as u always have. It jus illustrates how intent u r on disagreeing wit everything, instead of trying to understand what I am saying.

What have u done, Dirtyharry?
Tis thread is reserved only for the elite few. Cos they r discussing the lyrics in Tamil Film Music (which has such a great reputation for producing highly intricate lyrics which ordinary folks like u and me cannot decipher).
Please leave it to the Tamil methais here to sort it out and admire the beauty. Anyone who dares to post here must be equipped with at least a doctorate in Tamil literature.

The second half of my previous post was MEANT to be a distortion, because that is what all this acrimony is about - distortions. Anyway, since we are not seeing eye to eye on this issue, I am not wasting further time discussing this any more. It is not my intention to turn this into a vgs vs whynot thread. Good bye and Good luck.

...The song "Moongilile Paattisaikkum" from Raagam Thedum Pallavi contains lines like...
vgs, I love that song! Didn't know it was by TR. Who was it picturized on? Was the movie a hit?
I always dread watching songs from the 80s and earlier. A lot of times the lyrics and songs are out of this world, but the picturisation and heroines range from awful to so-so.

The song was picturised on the hero of the movie "Oru Thalai Raagam". His name was Shankar I think. I do not know if the movie was a hit. The picturization of that song used to remind me of another beautiful song, "Ithu oru ponmaalai pozhuthu" from Nizhalgal.
One more very good TR song in this category...
"Oru Ponmaanai Naan Kaana" from Mythili Ennai Kaathali.

How about the song 'ennavendru solvathamma vanji aval perazhagai' from Rajakumaaran.
..pottaadum medai parthu vaadi pogum vanpirai..
..aval naan paarka thaangamal naanuvaal, intha raajavin thozhodu seruvaal...
One of the examples of why I absolutely adore songs written by RV Udayakumar and scored by IR.
BTW can any one help me with the meanings of the following words:
1. "ootru" in the line ..athikaalai ootru..
2. reengaram(??) in the line ..uyir moochagi reengaram (??) paaduvaal.
3. "manjam". This word appears in so many songs.
