On Diwali day, there was a program on SMK in KTV. Thangar, Cheran & Panju all were full of praises for IR for the melodious tunes.
Thangar said he got the tunes for all songs in 35-40 minutes with lyrics. He wondered what is there inside this man. Also, he said Azhagi tunes were also composed in 35-40 minutes. He also said he will not work with any other MD in future too.
Cheran emphasized that music can give another dimension to a film and only MD can keep the story intact.

Nothing much about music. It says we are missing Raja's sentimental song (4 lines:) in the climax.

Hi guys
I listened the songs of Ramana and SMK. Both albums are not up to my expectations. Especially in Ramana IR scored very ordinary songs. All the songs are below average. I think SMK is better than Ramana

tamilcinema.com says that there r some problems between IR and OScar Ravichandran.... If that is the case, what would happen to Manasellam (a movie produced by Oscar R)...I hope the two come to a compromise soon.

Where are the people who told Raaja's days are gone?
I'm stunned to see Raaja still giving solid competition to all the new comers but still very strict about his style of composing.

venki ,
Though iam fan of ILLAS ,i feel as far as his songs are considered his magical touch is not there ..take any of teh albums released now ..that magical touch is not there ..
BUT ...i find his BGM to be better than his BGMs in 80 s,that way iam glad ..Probably some audio companies should take intiative in relasing teh bGM tracks ..
The last album in which i found all teh songs to be good was HEYRAM or TIME or Kannaukul Nilavau ,whichvere cam last

Ramki,
He still have his magical touch when you hear the humming of lady voice in the beginning of Vanavilley...song...which I am keep hearing again and again....not at all getting bored....
He still rocks in the songs like Venilavin Perai Marrava, Vanavilley and Oorukkoru Katchi.. in Ramana...Enna Solli in EMV..
ENjoy

Friends, "RAMANA" and "SOLLA MARANTHA KATHAI" declared hits already - RAMANA is a mini-combeback for Vijayakanth and the BGM is reportedly awesome!
The solo song by Shresha Goyal and the "kaattula" songs in SMK are runaway hits in pattis and thottis - I am posting this from Kumbakonam - everywhere here, in Mayavaram and in Tiruchy, I can hear SMK songs being played!
IR is in/back with a bang this year!

Ramki,
Looks like you do not appreciate folk music. How can you miss the albums like Azakhi. Songs like Oliylae_Therivadu and un_Kuthama (BTW, the lyrics were also by IR) are masterpieces.
Folks,
The following are my views (IMHO) about TFM. We can discuss about, if some of the points are of any interest.
Current State of TFM:
Look at the songs like Kaadhal_Pisase, which are short-time popular numbers: Singer sings the song like a Hindi number by killing Tamil; Looks like our listeners like this kind of torture to Tamil. It is very unfortunate. Most of the currently popular songs have very little message to convey. In that area, IR is doing his best after MSV/Kannadasan pair. At this sad state, how the good numbers like 'Enna Solli' from EMV and 'Vannavillae' from Ramana will be appreciated?
Solution:
Like MSV said (in a movie – acted as the owner of Kannadasan mess--) "Don't change everything. Don't change from good to bad". We have changed good Tamil music to this sad state.
In the name of appealing to mass (and therefore for commercial success), MD like YSR,ARR,VS,ManiS... are doing sound-engineering albums. I think the problem is with listeners. These folks are giving what the listeners want. But, there is a responsibility for these MDs, who takes listener’s hard-earned money. That is, take them to the right direction. (Even though, India is known for its wealth in culture and developments. Lack of documentation and proper guidance from our gurus left us not much to claim in the areas like Mathematics, Medicine... I do not level these folks at our gurus. But at least these folks have got a medium to promote good music.)
In that sense, KR has came up with good album – ALBUM (I do not claim it is great album in every sense, but is a good start), which proves that you do not have to have sound-engineering as the core to create popular songs. But look at the media response for that ALBUM. Media did not understand this change except few like Vikatan. In oli96.8 (Singapore radio station), songs of ALBUM are broadcasted at least 2-4 times a day. Singapore listeners are craze about ALBUM. I do not know about TN. This still shows there are people you can change this sad state. I feel MDs like IR,VS,KR,ARR can bring change like ALBUM (or better) has produced. Also, media will change (or learn) to appreciate this good change. Good tune, message conveying lyrics, well written score, use of our Indian instruments (if do not promote our stuff, who will?) and good orchestration. I also believe SMK songs, which are (simple and down-to-earth) will be appreciated. As experts say, toughest thing is creating simple and likeable tunes. (As Albert Einstein said: All truly great things are simple!)
Regarding songwriters: We have talented people like Thamari, PP, Mu. Metha, VM,… (not in any order) who can bring good songs, if listeners appreciate them. Poets like VM are trying to use same algorithms (with heart, eye, window… as variables in the flow) to appeal the mass. This algorithm based song writing is not good for long run. Also, having good knowledge of the songs (and the language) is very essential for any MD.

ms good analysis. language deterioration is from the days of mgr. Its is torture to hear dialogues of saroja devi, but still she was popular. For songs, the collapse started by ARR only. We require some good directors with nice storyline to again make movies. Example. Metti, what an impact it makes with the viewers. These kind of moives require sincere music lot like these junk fancy songs. But now 90% of the movie is youth based particularly college based which of course totally absurd. KR has great talent who can give wonderful songs under any situation.

"For songs, the collapse started by ARR only. "
Not true. Songs like "Hello My dear wrong number" and "Hello Mr. Jameendhar, How do you do" came a long time before ARR or even IR in some cases.
The move to 'urbanise' thamizh was already there. ARR just took it to the next logical level. But I agree he did it with vigour and could have resisted it instead of promoting it.
Also, City dweller film makers like Shanker should also bear some of the blame for it. His movies had some of the best music by ARR but had some of the worst lyrics.
I would leave Mani out of this criticism because it's a fact that some of the best lyrics in ARR tunes were written for Mani movies.
What's encouraging is that IR seems to be steering the cart back to the right path with albums like Kasi, SMK, and Alaghi - and what's more, they are becoming hits again.
Is it light I see and the end of the tunnel?

no one Meera has got the penchant for success. i've noticed in the film industry people who say they "love" IR' music too much are very highly successful than the rest of the jalras. Suhasini, Meena, Vadivelu, Vijaykanth, Ramarajan, Bagyaraj (look at Barathiraja when he stopped luvin IR... fellow is going from veerpandi kotai to mumtaj magal, now he is in deep cauvery... what a going for the mr. braja
Meera, Keep it on man, i am now interested in watching your films
