There is no doubt that ARR made the whole world turn around and look into his music. This might have shattered the ego of head-weighted MDs of the industry, but one cannot refuse the identity which the tamil film industry gave to ARR in the film music. He may be acclaimed in Hollywood, Britain and all over. But Tamils will not forget him as the son of their soil. I know people who praise ARRahman for using native voices like TK Kala, Sasireka, Sirkazhi sivasidambaram, Maharajan, SN Surendar etc, which even IR has failed in his Loooooong tenure as a dominating MD.
Things like cassettes and CD on discount is totally marketing business strategy and has nothing to do with the impeccable quality which ARR gives, which is beyond cost barriers.
We wish ARR makes an opening to native Tamil voices in hollywood, north and in england. We are sure he will do it and bring laurels to Tamilnadu.

What nonsense Flifo! Where did you get this ridiculous information from. Check out with anyone in the arrahmanfans eGroup. ARR was indeed born and brought up in Tamil nadu and is a pucca tamilian.
Dont spread such unsubstantiated nonsense.

Flifo FYI,
Rahman is indeed a son of TN soil. His father Sekar is a Tamil music director born and brought up in Tamilnadu. Ofcourse Tamils are magnanimous in allowing Keralites, Telugus and Kannadigas freely in all the fields and yet earn a name as FANATICS. One could sense the Tamilian nativity in Rahmans work with his usage of Tamil voices (though occassionally) for his songs and pulling the Bombay crowd to record in Tamilnadu in his own studio instead of flying to Bombay to record and depend on Singh for a mixdown (Giving a picture that he is the only best). Rahman is a Tamilian and respects tamils. This is evident in his interviews and the sensible tamil lyric content in his songs. Fliflo needs more information. He shouldnt post biassed opinions.
This discloses the mental concept of our friend Flifo. Better make it fast and dont miss the bus to Kilpauk.

Naan Rahmanai attack panna varale. Avar Malayalinnu Thappa sonnen. All Offended ARR fans kindly excuse. Here is the real info.
Manikkavum intha thappukku:
Here's the real Info:
A. R. Rahman or Allah Rakha Rahman was born actually A. S. Dileep Kumar on the 6th of January in the year 1967, in Madras (now Chennai), to a musically affluent Tamil Mudaliar family. The second of four children he had three sisters Kanchana, Bala (now Talat) and Israth, Kanchana being elder and the other two younger. His father R.K. Sekhar was a composer, arranger and conductor in Malayalam movies and had worked under the likes of Salil Chowdhary and Devarajan. His mother was Kasthuri (now Kareema Begum). Dileep’s baptism in music happened early in life. Dileep's earliest memories of the studio are with his father. On one of those visits, a music director Sudarshanam Master found the four year old playing a tune on the harmonium. He covered the keys with a cloth. It made no difference. Dileep replayed the tune effortlessly. This impressed the music director who suggested that he be trained in music. Dileep started learning the piano at the tender age of four. He recieved his early training in music from Dhanraj Master.

Already I had mentioned in various threads ARR is original Tamil and his mother does not even know Malayalam. A muslim Mufti helped his family on the untimely demise of ARR'S father and as gratitude ARR and his mother embraced Islam.Infact his mother is from a village near Arakonam and ARR too has GRAMEEYA roots...Ahamed

Omega,
I think "Zubeidaa" is really a brilliant score of Rahman's. It is one of those "different", "non-Rahmanish" music scores of ARR.... like 1947-Earth.... These songs take some time to grow on you.... some of them even more than other Rahman songs which, anyway, are famous for "growing" on you after a few listenings.... moreover, all the songs of Zubeidaa are real gems.... specially "Pyara sa Gaon", "Main Albeli", "Mehandi", "Hai Na", "Dheeme Dheeme", "So gaye hain"... BOSS!! I started picking the best and look what happened!! :-) All of them are great... you just can't leave any of them.... One more point - if you've seen the movie you'll appreciate the
"Main Albeli" song even more.... It has that "gypsy" feeling to it.... you almost feel like you are listening to something from a banjaaran.... of 1940's... :-) Woth obviously much better instrumentation than what people used at that time.... BRILLIANT!!!!
bye,

Another point Omega,
Why do you think it is necessary to apologize for discussing a "non-tamil" album of Rahman here... This is a discussion board... of people most of whom are interested in Rahman's music... And listen to it... So, what's wrong in discussing Zubeidaa... If I have something to discuss with Rahman's fans, nobody should expect me to say it on some other "HFM" discussion board aur "Telugu FM" board... If all of us are interested in same thing, then I don't think that just the fact that this site is called "tfmpage" should discourage us from saying things... After all, I don't understand tamil (except some words like "Kaadhal", "Minsara", "Kannamoochchi", "Ennasolla", that too thanx to Rahman.. :-) ), and yet, this is one of my favorite sites, and I own almost as many Tamil cassettes as Hindi ones... And I am sure there are many other like me...... so, why should we leave hindi songs of Rahman from our discussion...
bye,

Rahul,
I appreciate your interest in Rahman's and Tamil Music. But please understand that primarily this tfmpage is to discuss Tamil Film Music... Sure, it can not be avoided to touch few things out of this scope like news about / Instrumental music from tfm MD's and scores in other languages... that's ok.
But a detailed review of a Hindi album is not expected here; simply because of the fact most of the Tamils like me hardly listen to the Hindi versions of even Rahman's music (forget other MD's)... so we won't understand what you are talking. I too am sure that you would not listen to Tamil versions if only all the Rahman TFM is available in Hindi also.
So, for detailed discussions on gems of HFMusic (any MD) it is definitely appropriate to use/start separate site... Thanks.
- From: cosmician (@ 194.170.127.53)
on: Thu Jan 25 10:12:47 EST 2001
...or we can start a separate thread....after all Rahman is from Tamil and Tamils have global hearts and minds...come on..do u want 2 prove otherwise...BTW this thread is called ARR's latest...not ARR's Tamil latest...so I think there is nothing wrong if u get to read about ARR's hindi versatility MOF(matter-of-fact) it is better for us ARR fans..

comisician: I am sorry ; I am mistaken. I too like to read about ARR's versatility in various fields. I only said that for detailed reviews of non-Tamil songs (taking individual songs etc.) there could be more appropriate sites.
IMHO, in tfmpage (TAMIL FILM MUSIC page), it is not correct to start a thread for Hindi songs... I feel the gems of HFM with the various talented MD's do deserve a separate site. There we can also expect more North Indians come, participate and share their appreciation for ARR's music.
I accept my ignorance about HFM. I do not get to listen to them much.
