I think it deserves to be, RR. The song ESK by MGS is very melodious. I have listened to it many times already. The tune is no innovation but a pleasing one inspite of MGS' horrible pronunciation.

Saw ESK yesterday. Sabesh/Murali did the BGM....Nothing to rave about....I heard that this film was in big financial difficulty, hence, ARR(Producers his friends, so did the music at Cut price) and some of the actors delayed a lot too.... The picturisation of most songs was not good, neither was the film. Theendai and Thirakkadha were picturised quite well, but Raju Sundaram's coreography was awful.....
Sriram: YSR and KR are supposedly singing in Bharathiraja's Taj Mahal, I don't think they are assisting ARR. This is speculation though, as there have been too many rumours about this film and it's music.

My two cents on ESK :
Fabulous recording - CD says 24-bit recording and it shows. Probably the best recorded TFM CD so far. Much better than previous ARR recordings (perfectly normalized recording).
Vairamuthu has become a consummate contemporary TFM lyricist - filling 5-6 minutes of music with his vacuous sweet nothings.
ARR's music - some people love it, some people hate it and some tolerate it. I am one of the few who tolerate it. Whatever emotion the song is supposed to portray, ARR comes with rhythm and bass sampled-loops driven music which is easy on the ears, fun to listen to and eminently forgettable once the CD player is switched off. ESK is about the same. No one can ever blame ARR for being too subtle.

pg,
I think it's taken from some Aganaanooru verse. It talks about 'pasalai', which I guess is a state of 'viraga thaabam'. In crude terms, the girl cant wait to see her man! But, I didn't understand why the sobbing sound in the start of the song! Geetha, since you've seen the movie, could you relate this to the picturization?

[(kind of) slightly off-topic]
Has anyone heard the new Erykah Badu song called "You got me"?? The Badu pieces in-between the rap verses sound like "Thindai Thindai"!! Check it out..(no, I am not implying any "copy" here..just a coincidence)
- From: UV (@ webgate0.mot.com)
on: Sun Mar 7 04:06:50 EST 1999
oh! we have started calling that coincidence is it?
- From: neruppu (@ 129.137.151.23)
on: Sun Mar 7 16:33:20 EST 1999
"coincidence" is a colloqial term. A technical explanation would be "shared knowledge appropriated by the shared use of musical software banks that are a glorious reflection of the technological advancement of our contemporary civilization".
- From: check it out (@ kiang-54.fuse.net)
on: Sun Mar 7 22:07:21 EST 1999
I called it a "coincidence" because both ESK and the Erykah Badu song (which is off a ROOTS album) came out at around the same time - there is no way any copying was involved...cut ARR some slack, will ya? :-)

then they must have copied from the same source.

I listened to songs of jOdi last week. IMO, the best of the album is the flute instrumentation for the song "bOl sajni mOri sajni(veLLi nilavE)". Fabulous piece of work for the best melody of the album and a nice piece of alternative for folks like me who didn't like SPB/maha as against sonu nigam/kavitha krishnamoorthy(its hindi version). I would have preferred the song be rendered by kavitha in place of mahalaxmi. And it is true that sonu's rendering is better than SPB as for as this number is concerned. Anyway, the flute piece after the second interlude in place of kavitha's humming is just awesome. Great job ARR!

rameshb: Boli Sajni is in Kafi isn't it? Indeed, I love it. A beautiful piece. I really like Mahalakshmi's voice and style. It's very pleasant and fits the song....I somehow prefer her voice to Kavitha's....

Geetha,
isn't Kafi a hindusthani classical? may be sonu/kavitha have done a better job in bringing the effect as compared to SPB/maha. It is purely subjective matter as to who 'sounds' better than the other, IMO. I indeed like maha's voice, but for this number , i think the bOl sajni singers outclassed the veLLi nilavE singers. But, i would just give credit to the melody itself and the flute instrumental is an excellent quid-pro-quo.

rameshbb and geetha,
I too didn't like SPB/Mahalakshmi when I heard the song first time. The second listening changed my opinion. I feel they are better than sinu/kk. Mahalakshmi sounds good and pleasant (as geetha pointed). Who is she BTW?
Also, I feel Ranu Mukherji and Swarnalatha are perfect match to each other. I have been observing this since ARR started using RM. They sound very similar -- perfect selection for songs like shabba shabba (daud), jeeva (DSKR/jodi).
have fun,

I have heard that Padaiyappa audio will release on 15th and Kadhalar Dhinam audio on 14th of March. I am waiting, but like most other audios I would not be surprised by a delay.

I was of the opinion that DSKR was a remake of "kAdalukku mariyAdhai".......but in that case, what is "jOdi" that u r talking about?....Is it in tamil?
Please tell me

Anand,
As you said DSKR is the hindi remake of KM. And "Jodi" is the Thamizh version of DSKR.

"Jodi" songs are the tamil version of DSKR(same tunes with different lyrics and singers), but Jodi is a different movie with Prasanth and Simran.
A dubbed version of DSKR called "OOnjal" is also released. Thus we now have two tamil versions of DSKR music-Jodi and Oonjal.
I am reminded of the story of the golden goose which layed golden eggs!:)

anyway ,recently i had listen 2 "JODI" album,to tell u guys the truth, wow its really a masterpiece from ARR.
after ROJA,several songs from MINSARA KANAVU and BOMBAY,i guess this is the BEST effort from ARR.
particularly the song "Velli Malare"..what a great mix of classical and light music done by him.CONGRATE..i personally hope ARR will come out with this type of songs regularly. Thanks
p/s#there are a lot of songs by ARR that have impressed me .... but still i found that ROJA is the BEST ever.
