Sometimes I don't understand the meaning of some songs. Recently it took SK to explain the meaning of "Vizhiye Kathai Ezhudhu" to me. Here are some more questions.

It was my own--thanks to Bhoori, for making me think!
Let me elaborate on Raghavan's well-meaning explanation for rs' request!

Great karpanai man....You remind me of those ** fans in ** Yahoo group who some how find altogether a different logic and meaning of his compositions....It a pleasure to read them...like wise its a pleasure to read yours.

It is time for the next one.
Ore vanile ore mannile
ore geetham urimai geetham paduvom
Oru paattudhan paduvom, adhu urimai geetham sai. Ore mannile? Sari namma ellarukkum ore naadu appadi edhavadhu sollikkalam. ore vanama? Indha thoovanam, atthuvanam, nirvanam ellattaiyum consider panni, engalukku ore vanam appadindrara enna?

on: Wed Aug 18 05:11:53 EDT 2004
Bhoori,
>>>Ore vanile ore mannile
ore geetham urimai geetham paduvom <<<
I think the meaning here is simple!
The song is against slavery. For 'aaNdaan' and 'adimai', the sky and the earth are the same (i.e., Two different earths and skies were not given by God!). That is why they sing "orE vaanilE orE maNNilE
orE geetham urimai geetham paaduvOm " You can appreciate the theme further when MGR (TMS) sings " kaaRRu nammai adimai enRu udhaRavillaiyE! kadal neerum .......! kaadhal paasam thaaymai nammai maRappathillaiyE"
- From: Bhoori (@ 64.171.13.98)
on: Wed Aug 18 07:59:11 EDT 2004
Cinema Virumbi,
Good try, but I don't think that is correct. Why would adimai MGR ask the aandaan to sing urimai geetham? urimai geetham is appropriate for adimai, not for aandaan.

1. "orE vaanile, orE maNNilE"
Bhoori is right in his thinking that it is not a song posed to the 'aaNdaans'.
This is a wishful song with the singer calling out to his 'saha adimais' pointing out to them that the birds, waves, wind, sea, time, love, affection, motherhood etc. don't show any differences !
He is urging them to be united always either here[maN] or in case they are crushed and die in the process, in the 'viN'[sky or heaven or hell !!] also.
Wherever you may be, he wants them to be united.
A call similar to the one Gandhiji issued to our people during the freedom struggle--"sei alladhu seththu madi" "do or die".
veLangichchaa?
...to be contd...

2. "kaNNukuLLE mIyaa mIyaa
uLLE orE uyyaa.. uyyaa"
Have you ever stared at a cat?
Have you ever had a cat as a pet?
If so, [or not], kindly visualize!
Think of a proud cat sitting with her hindlegs folded and the forelegs held straight with her front of the chest showing off proudly!
aachchaa!
now the cat is looking at you!
sariyaa!
turn off the lights!
OK??
The cat's eyes will be clearly visible to you like a glow with the slit of her eyes perpendicular to the earth.

walrus... original lines were
Yamahala seera vaareehaalaa.. vaareehaalaa.. Seera varu veehalaa...??
vareehala ---means varuveegalaa
It got thirunjufied to the lines in the song..
SK,
I thought that kannaale miya miya.. was referring to Laila's eyes (as cat eyes..) ;-)
romba ul artham paartheenganaa...
Kannule me-ya.. me-ya..??
Means... un kannula.. naan.. (me)...
Ulle ore ui-yaa.. ui-yaa...
ui means aasai in thamizh... i guess/hope...
so..
Ulle ore ui-yaa.. ui-yaa... means.. nenjula oru aasai.. aasai...
Short-aa...

Good thinking, Sudalai.
But, I went thru the other route as the lines go like, 'kaNNaalE meeyaa meeyaa' and not "kannulE meeyaa, meeyaa'.
Both have different meanings.
'kaNNaalE' means the blinking and 'kaNNulE' means the reflection of the person standing before the eyes.

Ennanga SK, the line is "Ore Vanile Ore Mannile". Not "Onrai Vanile Onrai Mannile". How could the former mean "We will live together on earth or die together and be in heaven?"
- From: SK (@ 199.90.34.67)
on: Thu Aug 19 11:48:53 EDT 2004
'oNNaa' iruppadhu vERu; 'onRaai' iruppadhu vERu!
The former means 'unity' otRumai;
the later means 'kooNdoda kailaasam'!

Romba kuzhambi irukkeenga polirukku. I didn't say ore = onraai. For you interpretation, you need the word "Onrai", not "ore".
