Coming to the matter, can anyone tell me the happenings that lead IR to refuse kamal's offer to do music in HeyRam? Can you also confirm the authenticity of the news? I earnestly wai for a response regarding the above.....

Vimal,
IR refused to score for heyram bcoz it is a pro
'Godse' movie.

Adding to what jani wrote:
Kumudham also mentioned that it was a very polite
refusal by Raja to Kamal: although I feel bad
missing taking part in a great movie, I am refusing
it because I feel it is pro Gandhian-killers.

Sorry, I was talking to somebody here and I wrote what was talked. Jani and Ragapriyan, that is good news about IR's beliefs. Atleast we can be sure he wont' play around with the original Vande Mataram and oblige some recording companies like SONY!

I read somewhere that IR is composing for a new film starring some newcomer and Kausalya.

I know that the thakthOm song in KK hasn't been spoken of highly... but it reminds me of 'thEn ooruthE aasayum meeruthE' from 'veLLai purA onRu'. Did anyone feel that way? If so what makes the new one so inferior?

Vimal Anney, i also read that. What do you think will happen? To the newcomer, i mean. (i think Kausalya will be okay;-)

Ravi: There you are:)). Because it is in a new album of IR.
I am sure if we had advertised EVK as a new unreleased album and given the links to Rex's page in the IR's new albums thread, some 'knowledgeable' critics would have come back and informed us that even though these songs are okay, ITO(In their opinion) it lacks the imagination and innovation of the 80's albums. You know, IR's voice sucks. Why did he have to use Jency again. Obviously she has become old. And KJY sounds old and jaded. Heck! Even I can compose such an album.
I am sure this would have happened.
This is precisely the point I tried to make and failed in the otehr thread: Objectivity in terms of time-period. Some People have formed a pre-conceived notion that anything new from IR has to be bad. Well, I am not even complaining about this attitude . But atleast, they shouldnt think they are standing on a lofty objective pedestal. But they do (think so) :-)))

Raj: Some of my pro-IR friends, who like the other songs in the album have condmened tahkthom... That was what I was trying to address here. I am not the one to get into IR vs ARR fights.. let alone instigate one. :-)
- From: Ravi (@ envy.cs.umass.edu)
on: Wed Apr 21 13:42:10 EDT 1999
Well.. Ok it is not exactly an IR vs ARR fight, but something in that spirit. :-).
- From: kiru (@ surf0004.sybase.com)
on: Wed Apr 21 13:46:45 EDT 1999
I think IR is still operating in his own style. Composing non-chalantly as nobody can. Once in awhile (or too often, depending on your leanings :-)) there is a hit song. If he wanted to compete with ARR he can take sometime and give a hit but no music does not work that way (I agree with IR o n this). You just keep composing something will become a hit. I think I already notice a drop in the hit rate in ARR even though he is supposed to take every job/song seriously. Its nothing to do with ARRs abilities. This is how music works (I think).
Only changes I have noticed recently is that the tabla is gone and instead some silly electronic drums/beats are used (I hate it). But still the melody is there, the flow in the music is there and there is really good variety in the output.
(I liked MVU more than KK)

Well, maybe you mean Besh IR vs Bash IR fight?
Anyway, pointing out a few facts doesnt constitute instigating a fight, does it?:))

Ravi and Raj,
IR's use of ila arun in that song was detestable. True, if SwarNa was the only singer then it might have been viewed in a different light, but strangely, due to IR's unexplained stupidity (yeah! yeah! I know that these are strong words), he has used 'that other woman'. I'm sorry, I cannot cross these barriers and try to sift through the remaining parts of thakthOm and search for diamonds - and for the record there is none.
I am Joe Bloe the fan. I surf the net and people tell me KK is OK. I go to the shop and pay $2.99 for KK because 1. people talked about it and 2. its by IR. Do I have a bias towards IR? You bet I do. And this bias leads to an expectation. Did IR meet my expectation? Well the first song is 'thakthOm'. I am pissed with IR - not with ilaa.
Anyway, KK is being discussed (though mainly its negative aspects) because there is NOT an abundant supply of better material out there. If KK, KM, etc came out in earlier time periods - when we had a continuous, consistent and abundant supply of good music- they would be also rans worthy for only trivia buffs. Just like people are NOT requesting Rex to load aNNEy aNNEY, or OrampO OrampO, or vaa machchi machchi. But if these were the representative songs by IR in the past, trust me, people would have questioned his artistic talents, or more importantly efforts.
This is why I had written in a different thread, that TFM is degenerating and definitely in need of a shot in the arm. I wish geniuses like IR would do it with master pieces like Guru (Hey! why not for TFM if you can do it for MFM)and raise the level, instead of falling to gimmicks,or losing to copy cats. ARR definitely has the talent to raise the level, but unfortunately is not prolific plus he is too caught up in the 'national market' commercial success game. If IR does'nt choose to raise the level, then I sincerely hope (as Srikanth mentioned) that he retires gracefully on top. I hate to see him playing with the B teams and azhuguNis (Deva).

bb,
I did'nt realize originality ( oh! wait a minute! let me try this kadi joke which my cousins from Madras tortured me with during my (de)formative years in Calcutta - 1G 4T) was a requirement in this forum. avvaLavuthaan! DFa izhuththu moodara nilamai vandhudum.
Kansas la KK cassette vilai $2.99 plus tax. If you want let me know. I will send by the dozens to Urbana - Of course! shipping and handling (not similar to 'naa thottu thandhaa ettu paisaa') thani.
Actually, I realized the import of your post now. You had expected a certain standard and level of information content from "rajaG's posts" (much similar to my expectation from IR). But, by merely reiterating what had been said before, I failed to meet your expectations (and temporaririly become an 'on par' poster, just like IR's music of late). Sorry for disappointing you, but I will try to be more careful in my future endeavors:-)

Also,
Recently, if Raja comes out with an out of the ordinary 'mod' tune such as thakthom thakathimi thom, every one and their uncles come out and say that KR did it.
I am not sure what evidence they have for this. I am willing to give the benefit of doubt to Raja, escpeically after seeing the evolution of his music over the years.

I don't get you guys. What is IR composes 'thakthom'. He was the same guy who did 'nethu rathiri'. Look into the good aspects of the album. It had good number like 'konji pesu'.....it had good recording. Postings like its better if he retires gracefully are just crazy. We have no right to ask him to retire(IMO we are nothing to comment on him!!). If U have some expectations set a benchmark. Obviously U can set Johnny to be a benchmark today. Stuff like this is not the stuff I expect from IR are again crap. I feel these are anti-IR and pro-ARR statements undercover. A better way to get away from IR fans unbashed. If you don't like it, cool, leave it. Take the portions you like.

very much true. but, have you tried Aalamarathu Kiliye..? Mottai used drums in the pallavi, and switches to tabla in the first interlude, continues till the end, and back to drums. needless to say, tabla effect was really great. it sounded like Mottai's answer to those hating tabla!

I request Dfers to wait patiently for the uploads of Shibu. He has promised to put IR's amllu songs on the web. There is a lot of Tabla + Drums combo in them.
