Hi,
Music of 1947-Earth has been released and IMO is really good .None of the songs have say a fast beat and they all convey the sombre mood of the film , except the Sashana Sargam song .Sukhwinder's songs Ruth Aa gayi Re and Raat Ki Daldal hai are great. Raat ki Dal.. is the song Sukhwinder performed at the Zee cine awards function last year when ARR gave a performance .This song IMO is the best and haunts you.

aruvi: Thanks a lot for the link. This is indeed news to me, as there was only going to be BGM in Alaipaayudhe. The only song that was recorded(this was in May) was the Oothukaadu Krithi, Alaypaayudhe Kanna, sung by Kalyani Menon(of MSV's Nee Varuvaay Enna Naan Ariven fame) and Harini!
TheBrahmaBull: Chill Maaan, this thread is also for discussions of ARR's choice of singers, instruments, instrumentalists and for people's opinions on the albums - e.g. reviews.
The guys have apologised enough for the digression about Murali being Velaiyathavan(Maaan, that was surprising!). It was just bit of fun for the regulars!

Aruvi: Thanks again for pointing out the interview in Film Fare, it's funny how Mani Ratnam has changed his mind! By the way, watch out for the BGM of Kandukonden, I think there will be a little piece of Nithyashree singing Swarams(in Nalinakanthi Raga) when Mamoorthy walks through a large flower stall. The Raga also appears in the title song, as I'd mentioned before. Aishwariya is a Carnatic singer in the film, hence ARR's mention to Carnatic styles. One of the AD's said that the movie is nearly ready now, I think that ARR is doing songs much quicker nowadays.
On his mention to "It's a beaftiful life", he'd seen this film in London and he really loved it. He told me the end sequence of the film with so much enthusiasm, unfortunately, I know the story now! He's very into philosophical subjects in moveis. We were going to take him to see The Matrix, but weren't able to, as there wasn't a very late showing on the day we met him! :(

Geetha..have you listened to 'Earth' yet. People are saying it's really good, better than taal. But as I don't know the languages, it's pretty hard for me to appreciate the music because I just don't have the patience to listen to hindi songs, most of the time. What do you think about 'Earth', if you have heard it. The songs are at www.indiafm.com, I believe.

Aruvi: I haven't heard them you, I'll try and buy them this week. I don't have my headphones and try to avoid listening to new music on the web, as the quality, unless MP3, is really bad.
I'll post a review of them when I've heard them.

Its good to see that ARR is coming out with an album with Maurice Jarre(Ref. Filmfare interview). I have lot of respect for Maurice Jarre for his "Dr. Zhivago" title composition.
Geetha: do you have any idea whether this album is going to be Western Classical based?
- From: Geetha (@ gatekeeper.oracle.co.uk)
on: Wed Jul 28 11:53:13 EDT 1999
SRK: I don't know anything about this. I'll try and find out. ARR did mention calling Shekar Kapoor and how he was supposed to, but couldn't on the night we got him lost - oops. When I asked him if it was Phantom of the Opera, he was shy to talk about it, so didn't reveal much more.
I guess that there will be Classical elements to the JM Jarre thing, ARR is trained in the feild, so I guess it will turn out well.

Geetha: I'm pleasantly surprised that ARR is trained in WCM. Its not very apparent from his music. I thought he preferred pop and jazz over classical.
