my brief review of kadhal kavithai:
thanx to mahendran and the concerned site owner, i was finally able to listen to kaadhal kavithai.
IMO, overall this is not a great album of IR. i have heard the album only once but iam sure i would'nt listen to it many times more.
coming to the songs, as gokul rightly pointed out, the good songs have been spoiled by IR and bhava. on first hearing i was very impressed with the song 'alai meedhu' sung by bhava.this is the song that easily impacts u on first hearing. the reason? simple. it is the only song in the entire album that has a strong carnatic base to it or atleast that's what i think.
the raga seems to be very close to sudha dhanyaasi/abheri. reminds u of 'kaadhal vaanile' from raasiya and 'maalayil yaaro' from chathriyan. great but sadly a short song. i badly missed swarnalatha in the above song. her voice would have been perfect.
the next best is 'konji pesu' by IR,sujatha. the tune is good.the final chorus 'kannamma' is a trademark IR type of chorus.nice song. would have been better with SPB. IR singing for prashanth is
unacceptable. let him stop with singing those title or sentimental songs which come as asariri.
the folk song by pushpavanam is very ordinary and i was waiting for it to end.
amongst the three songs of hariharan, 'diana diana' is easily the best. A little bit novel composition of IR. I once again agree with gokul in that all the three hariharan songs sound highly ARRish.
hariharan sounds different in the song 'manasa thottu' and has also unsuccessfully attempted some 'konashtais' like SPB. lack of orchestration is clearly seen in these songs. i do not know who did the BGM for these songs. is it KR? if so, i do not think he is going to survive for a long time in the industry.
coming to the last song 'thathom' by ila arun and swarnalatha?, the tune is somewhat catchy but the pronunciation of ila arun is worst to say the least. malgudi subha would have done a better job. why is IR trying to do 'ARR'ish things like making ila arun sing?
on the overall except for that one bhava song, none of the other songs made a strong impact on me, which is very uncharacteristic of raja's music. as a HCIRF i have a request for raja:
1. if u had KR assisting u in the BGM, Pl. don't ask him to do so in the future.
2. i want the old IR back with violins/tabla/flute/guitar.
3. i had said somewhere else that just for the sake of raja, i wish that the synths were not invented. now i have another, albeit a really big, wish. just for the sake of saving raja's songs, i wish bhava was not born to him!!
the above opinions are strictly IMHO!!!

Folks
Dinakaran says Cheran's Next movie starring Prashant has music by Deva. IS he doing another movie with IR as MD.??
Kamal stars in Priyadaharshan's next movie. Both Kamal and Priyadharshan are big time IR fans.. SO probably IR shd be the MD.

Vijay, I have a small request. Listen to KK from a
CD or a cassette and then let me know what you think about the music. Listen to the songs 2 or 3 times, you will like them. There are lots of interesting music bits in each song including the HH songs. Your wish about Bhava was a tad too much, IMO. But what can I say, you are free to voice your opinions.
Sangeetha, Thanks for list of dropped movies. I am sure SPM would appreciate this info.

Guys
I heard thro people in India that 'Kathal Kavithai' is doing well and IR's songs and BGM for the movie is just too good and people who were not impressed much with the audio casette initially are changing the opinion now after seeing the movie. It is going to be another KM (Kathalukku Mariyadhai) for IR. Hats off to IR.VERY EAGERLY WAITING FOR THE MOVIE.
Regards
G.Suresh

I think Kaadal Rojave was released. I definitely ha e the song "Ilavanil idhu" by SPB which is reminiscent of "Idhayame Idhayame". It is a very good song and IMO "Ninaitha varam kettu" is also very good

Sangeetha,
kadhal rojave is the only movie in your list which has been dropped. The rest of them are either under production or yet to clear the censor.
Please, check if the info you provide is authentic before you post.

reg. chinna ramaswami periya ramaswami, R.V.Udayakumar was waiting to finish and release his velli nilave. he is currently working on this film and i believe it would be a pongal release.
from a promo of this film, which i saw in SUN TV when i was in india in august,my first impression was that the songs were mediocre.

after listeening to kadhal kavithat more than 4 times, my impression about the hariharan songs remain changes. IR has not done justice to the in between stnzas. atleast iam not impressed with the tune. it is of the 'yeno thaano' variety.
thathom thakathimi songs minus ila arun's munagals and pronunciation is a catchy song definitely.someone in another thread in the context of english words appearing a lot in tamil songs these days, had challenged that by the end of the year, that the word 'viagara' would appear in a song. well the word has appeared in this song. i guess this is the seduction song of kasthuri in that film. has this film already been released? i thought it was a pongal release.
ila arun is a bad substitute for our SJ!!!
the tune of that 'thathom thakathimi' reminds me of some old dappanguthu of raja. for mnow atleats, iam able to recall one song 'pothuvaaga em manasu thangam' song from murratu kaalai. the second line 'aaduvom paaduvam kondaduvom' if slightly distorted is thakathimi thakathimi thom thom!!
pushpavanam kuppusamy's voice sounds similiar to vadivelu's. i wonder why IR did not use his talentsfor a long time.
a few plus points in my opnion:
1. i think the thakathimi song is picturised song in scotland. i could hear a scottish bagpiper tune in the start of the song. reminded me of mel gibson's braveheart's BGM. a novel attempt by raja.
2. raja has proved once again that he can be versatile. there is that folk song,a couple of melodies, a dappanguthu.. everything u want!
3. IR has used none of his trademark singers SPB,SJ,Chithra and is experimenting with new singers.(though the result is mixed!!)

Friends,
Saw Kadhal Kavidhai in Bangalore two days back.
Agathiyan has matured more from his Kadhal Kottai.
In fact, I could feel the ambience of Mahendran,KB in some of the scenes, which have been picturised very poetically.
Even though the gut feeling one gets is of Kaadhal kottai, this movie is a better than his earlier one-
lots of "yadhaartham" scenes in the movie - probably Prashant has given his best performance to date - "asathikollamal"
he has acted - no aaravaaams, no aadambarams, no katthals, the movie is different from the current crop of movies. THE BEST PART OF THE MOVIE IS IR'S BGM - Friends, after Idhayathai Tirudaathey, I am blown off my feet by IR's distinctly Western classical base music for the BGM - there are so many long sequences in the movie, which are silent and IR has made the most of such oppurtunities and has given a rich BGM score - 1. The scen where we are shown the London bridge and the streets of London for the first time in the movie, the violin BGM is awesome. 2. The sequence where Prshant comes to a temple to meet the heroine, and the heroine hides herself without showing herself off, the temple bathed in a thousands of "agal" vilakkus , IR's BGM, a combination of WCM and Carnatic, a la KM's last scene , friends, indha oru sceneukkaaavey you should see this movie. The last ten minutes of the movie is absolutely dragging only IR's BGM saves us from boredom. AGATHIYAN has done wonderful justice to IR's songs !!!

Vijay,
I fully agree with you about the Hariharan songs...Only I couldnt initially fix what they lacked..and after reading your posting , I could :).But, I thought "Kaathal..." could be exempted from thislist, IMO. I know I'll be murdered for this..but Manasa thottu sounds so deva-ish :-( ...Couldnt imagine its from raja.
Alai meedhu, the best in the album, sadly, as you observed is short.
And I must differ from your opinion on 'Konji Pesu'..I thought Raja has done a great job there. ..And , well, if it doesn't suit Prashanth, so be it :).
All IMO..

Come on See the Beat for 'manasa thottu' in the interludes does it sound devaish? I wonder what makes one feel so? In first place there is nothing like Devaish as He himself is a mix of IRish and ARRish. Then coming to 'Kadhal meedhu' How can I explain the drums and flute mix in this song? Definitely I like all the songs in the movie no doubt. As I already mentioned in my earlier review there is nothing like ARRish or KRish the score of IR ONLY PROVES HOW HE ADAPTS HIMSELF TO THE CURRENT TREND AT THE SAME TIME WITH OUT COMPROMISING THE QUALITY
