hi folks
its really bad to notice that nowadays the modus operandi of rahman is to circulate his tamil songs in hindi and vice versa.is he running out of steam so soon..or what..
Bombay dreams is an excuse..a music director...is a genius..not just when he produces quality music but also when he produces them for a long time WITHOUT REPETITION.

fliflo,
ARR stays way ahead in an one man race..that makes sense..thanks
Do you mean to say that other MDs are not even in the race ??? And ARR is an unchallenged King?? You must be a fierce ARRfan to say that!!

Thanks to ARR giving us hindi version of STAR songs in tamil lyric. It is more enjoyable in tamil than Hindi songs.

What's wrong in importing one's own songs from one language from other. Why? Many MD's have done that. IR has also done that. I would like to have a tamil version of Kabhi na kabhi, Earth and pukar and daud. These films have many good songs which many of us have not heard.
Again, machchi machchiniye is horrible. I love ruth Agayi re.? What a song? These people really killed a good song.

CF,
you can do that when you are doing about 35-55 movies per year-even the raaja gave so many new melodies.but this is just not acceptable when you are doing 2 movies per year.
udhaya,
''Review of STAR
In the current TFM desert where lesser evils like Harris Jeyaraj and Karthik Raja are ruling the roost''-do you mean ARR is a greater evil:-)
once some DFer had the temerity to claim that he could ,it seems, predict raajas next ten songs(subsequently,he apologised).well, i can predict the next 100 songs of ARR-you see they have all been released last year!

Now, are you setting a standard to say that so an so should do atleast this much of film a year. Things have changed. You will be in demand only if you are not available often. That's what is ARR doing. Again don't compare IR's prolific composing style with ARR's. I am in IR's side on this.

I always wondered why IR didn't import this wonderful telugu melody to Tamil.
Song: Oyyari godaramma
Movie : Preminchi pelladu
Singers : SPB, SJ
Released in : 84 or 85
Have anyone heard this one? Ultimate melody.

music fan,
Let's take into account whether I care a farce about Hindi music shall we? If it's new in Thamizh it's new to me. I was talking to ARR and asked him where he got the idea of recycling tunes and he said, and I quote," I was watching the Hindi remake of 'Moondraam Pirai' and the 'Hey Zindagi' song sounded familiar. Only then I realized that the Hindi song had been remade as 'En Vaazhvilae Varum Anbae Vaa' in Thamizh. Then I was watching some Telugu movie by Nagarjuna which was dubbed in Thamizh and wouldn't you know it, IR had used 'Pon Meni uruguthae' in Telugu, but since it was re-dubbed in Thamizh it was 'Aadalgaloa'. So if IR can make one Thamizh tune into a Telungu tune and dub it back into Thamizh and make money three times on one song why shouldn't I sell off my original Hindi tunes to an unrelated Thamizh movie? Of course it will take me several years to make money three times for one tune but I will try in the path set forth by my worthy predecessor."

Common Friend... watz up? you said you wanted Daud and Kabhi Na Kabhi in tamil to enjoy .. well you can go out and buy Ottam and Mona Lisa they are the tamil version of Daud and Kabhi Na Kabhi .. respectively.
You can buy a cd.. by pyramid which has both of them together as a combo.

i agree that recyling isnt new.But trust me..if ur going to use same tune for a remake of the movie, its fine..coz ur just retaining the spirit..like mentioned above in Tall /Talam or whatever.
When u r composing for a new movie, its a whole new ballgame all together. And thats when originality is needed.
I am a fan of ARR too,Lagaan was a glorious piece of music.I am just making a point here that, this concept of using the same tunes makes ARR no different from good old Deva.

music fan,
I disagree. Language is an important part of a song for me. I have bought every one of ARR's Hindi to Thamizh CDs and found great value in them. "Jodi" had some of VM's best lyrics. I would take "Thaalam" over "Taal" any day and same goes for all these other movies.
Equating Deva who steals bits and pieces here and there to stick inbetween songs as jarring interludes is no comparison to ARR. If you feel they're the same, that's your opinion and will not be contested by me. If Lagaan isn't out in Thamizh I'm waiting for that.

RC,
finally someone from t.nadu has mentioned this song-ultimate in melody.the musical see-saw between SPB and SJ-wow.this song was for telugu fans-i think IR gave some of his best melodies in telugu.where did u listen to this song?give me the link.
have you listened to eenadu vidiponi from a vamsi movie-this song was actually a piece of BGM from swathimutyam-vamsi, who was an assistant to vishawanath ,liked this tune so much that IR obliged him with this lovely song.
raaja raajathan!
i remember vikatan's review for vanna vanna pookkal-it said that from the BGM itslf there were so many tunes all of them worthy of being seperate songs by themselves-to think fans of ARR, even at the current rate of his recycling are coming up with their lame excuses, what can one say?
just go to raajangahm to this page:
http://www.raajangahm.com/ric/film/FL-1984.html
the year thambikku endha ooru came do you know how many movies IR scored -54! 5 -8 years equivalent of ARR's output-and this list included movies like neengal kettavai, vaidhehi kaathirundhal, unnai naan sandhithen, enakkul oruvan,my dear kuttichathan, kai kodukkum kai,lot more....just see this list-you pick one song and this is the justification for ARR's recycling.hmmm...ethanai kaalamthan ematruvar intha naatile..
54!my mind boggles.

xyz,
Before you get all hot and bothered and waste your venom...All I did was counter an accusation based on the criteria given here to judge ARR, now in typical fan club fashion comes the "do you know how many movies IR scored?". Next it will be something else totally unrelated to the established logic of the first argument, ha, keep switching the logic until you come out ahead.
I gave a review of ARR's latest in this thread called "New releases by ARR". I believe some people care about reviews of new songs. Look at all the negative posts following my review. Without even digesting what I actually wrote, you have branded me ARR-fan, like I got a propaganda vehicle parked in my front yard. You guys are truly hysterical.

I listened to 'Star' songs and they are great. Of course they are recycled from Hindi songs, but I do not care. Nothing like listening to the songs in Tamil (that too with VM's lyrics). Star songs are good. I wonder when Sadhana Sargam will stop singing in Tamil. As udhaya had mentioned, there are tons of tamil folks with proper tamil pronunciation... (The same applies to Hariharan, thankfully he does not sing in this album). Shankar Mahadevan's tamil also sucks... SPB and Unni Menon - as always - are great. Though VM's lyrics are sometimes puerile, on the whole he is great.

Babu,
I think VM has written only one song in STAR - Macha Machiniye, Ofcourse, In other songs, many places Pazhani Bharathy has tried to imitate Vairamuthu :-)
'Thoom, Karuvil Irunthoom' is a very good choice for a thaththuvap paadal (?!)., I liked it very much - ofcourse, ARR could have asked somebody who knows tamil better than Shankar Mahadevan to sing the song, Other than this, the song is great.,
'ManasukkuL' is a good song, SPB is simply great., Sadhana is improved... but not good enough., TFM is not a place for practising tamil :-)
I liked 'Nenthukitta' song as well, But it looks more like a rough draft of 'kuRukku SiRuththavaLee' from Mudhalvan.
No comments about the other two songs :-)

Udhaya oru chinna question
"Shankar Mahadevan is the best thing to happen to TFM in a long time. He can read the phone book and make it enjoyable........." ===> How come you are lenient with him, but tough on other pseudo-tamil singers? His pronounciation is bad too, isn't?
However, I believe he is a good entertainer!
