the songs of star are fairly good with one nice duet from spb and sadhana. even rasika and karthik song's music is excellent. the others two songs are just bad. i do not know how arr gave these two numbers. spb always ensures longevity of the songs by his voice modulation and ofcourse his voice.

Nenthukitten is very good, lots of rustic flavor. Chitra Sivaraman, a karanatic vocalist, has done a appreciable job rendering this folkish song. Karthick is good too but his voice sounds close to Shrinis.
Charanam of 'manasukkul' is excellent. A smooth flow and sounds so pleasing to the ears.
as someone pointed out, sadhanas tamil is improving.
Rasika rasika must be for Mumtaz and Prashanth.
Though sujatha and SPB has done a commendable job, i prefer the hindi original(rang de)
(viral kondadum thedalgal isaiyai tharum
vidai kondaadum thedalgal vidiyal tharum- cute lines by the lyricist)
Macha machiniye is spoiled by the lyrics. But the tune is very good. It deserves better lyrics.
thom karuvil irundhom by shankar M is another good sound with classic flavor. Wish it had been sung by any other singer.
Overall this album is much better than the current TFM albums and its definitely worth buying

After utter failure of Dum Dum Dum, he not believes anymore his assistant to do his banner Madras Talkies production.
The great combination of ARR and MANI coming out soon. ref. Kollywood news.

Nendhukitten is deadly(who is this Karthik?). Manasukkul Oru Puyal is also good, that maybe becoz of SPB.
On first listening, something is not right with these songs(except Nendukitten, which is perfect). The lyrics and music dont seem to blend (IMHO)This maybe becoz, the original versions have grown upon me... I am not sure. Of course, as some one pointed out Rang De, Ruth Aa Gayi Re are way ahead of their tamil versions.
Its a pity Rahman still didnt realize his mistake after thaalam, which was a disaster when compared to its hindi twin. Jodi fared better, save for Velli Malare(only becoz of SPB) and Oru Poyyavathu. He should reject offers like these, rather than self-destruct his own good works by remaking them into tamil.
This is on first listening. I only wish, as all of rahman's songs, they grow on me also.
all this IMHO. anyone with me?

STAR's below par ARR's standard... its mainly coz we've all heard it before in one way or the other.
As for Nenthukitten.. its definitely the pick in my opinion.. and the rest are there as numbers although Manasukkul oru can appeal to a certain extent.. (no wonder it makes u wonder y on earth has SPB been ingored)
Machiniye..... not acceptable to any standards let it be lyrical or comp and simply a disastrous effort..!
Overall.... an utter disappointment only to be saved by the two aforementioned songs!

Missed a bit from the above...^
Thom ..... by shankar is worth mentioning.... too.. the only factor to deterriorate the falvour is the effort made to squeeze the lyrics into the tune.. i.e at many instances they appear to be two separate tracks... :-))

I have not heard star yet, but I love its original hindi versions. ARR shouldn't be blamed. The director of the movie - Pravin Gandhi is a greedy goose. He needs ARR to make money. He should have selected right tunes from hindi compositions. In takshak itself there is a song called "tera chehera" - it's a wonderful song. I have not seen anybody here mentioning it in star. Also, I surely know that "ruth Agayi re" 's tamil version will be horrible. The original song was in 1947-Earth and was ment for a kit festival kind of a situation in pakistan (Sindh at that time) (I saw the movie -- One should also see it for its excellent BGM--BGM available as CD -- don't start an IR vs ARR fight again)
PG could have used kabhi na kabhi or pukar also. Why takshak only? I don't know.

All of the start songs except Nenthukiddu Nenthukiddu are tamil versions of the songs from the hindu movie Thakshak by ARR.
Nenthukiddu Nenthukiddu is excellent. Others ok , may be because i have already heard it from Thakshak.

Review of STAR
In the current TFM desert where lesser evils like Harris Jeyaraj and Karthik Raja are ruling the roost, STAR comes as an oasis. Perhaps the presumption that “everyone” has heard the originals in Hindi doesn’t apply to people like me for whom Indian music isn’t born until rendered in Thamizh. That said, I wish the lyricist had actually used a thesaurus to find better Thamizh. As it is, the lyricist can only be called a lyric cyst.
Naendhukittaen is like a stroll through the native riverbank heading into a shady grove. Karthik the singer is a find. Easily one of the freshest things I’ve heard all year.
Manasukkul is orchestrated like a left over from “Oh, Maria”. Maybe this really shows ARR’s contempt for the Hindi audience, but by revisiting us in Thamizh, it carries the distaste with it. SPB hoists the song up. Yes, Sadhana sounds better than before, but saying that Sadhana is getting better with Thamizh is still a damn apology! Why don’t they get a singer who doesn’t have to keep getting better? Why not the thousands of Thamizh singers who’ve been Thamizh proficient from birth or others who worked their fannies off in perfecting it?
Rasika Rasika—Here the undulating bass loop is mesmeric, SPB and Sujatha nail the mood perfectly. I wish ARR will stop his musical chair allotment of singers and focus on people who breathe life into the words like this. The lyrics aren’t embarrassing either. The song’s pace is frantic like a pooja is performed under a time bind, but the energy is real and palpable.
Macha Machiniyae. This sounds similar to other ARR dance fare. The middle-eastern harem sounds in the strings intrigue me. The drums leap off the song in excitement. Unni Menon lends the song more credibility. What can I say? If this guy showed up in Thamizh before Yesudos, is there a limit to where he would’ve gone? Unfortunately, following KJY’s steps, Unni Menon’s regarded as just another singer; such is the fate these days when you emote well, get into the song and pronounce perfectly. I guess I’m a loner lamenting and celebrating lyrics and pronunciation in the age of targeted language assault. Macha Machiniyaam! Isn’t lusting after one’s machchini an incestual thing? Not just that, there’s more revolting phrases thrown on this otherwise enjoyable song like LKG, E.P.Ko. Still the pace and delivery brush all the ugliness aside and bring the song’s soul to the fore.
Thoam Karuvil Irundhoam—Shankar Mahadevan is the best thing to happen to TFM in a long time. He can read the phone book and make it enjoyable. The song is well constructed with probably the best lyrics of the lot and thankfully went to a person who does the language justice.
A big thanks for Karthik. S for the links to these songs. I celebrate your sharing spirit that didn’t get muddled up in theatrics about copyright issues and other such nonsense. For, now I can buy the CD.
Oh, Fliflo, “ARR’s still way ahead in the race, the human race.”
