Though I don't qualify to vote (read at the end
of my message to find out why), my vote goes to
KMand here are my reasons:
kAthalukku mariyAthai stands apart when
considering orchestration, lyrics and variety.
1. ennai thAlAtta varuvAllO
The tune is just awesome. Nothing can be better
than that when a person falls in love and looking
for reply from the other. Pazhani Bharathi excells
in each and every word of this song, especially
idhayam thudikkavillai Asaiyil line,
idhai vida nanrAga ezhutha mudiyAdhu. I hope PB
would write something on this line in future. I
like both versions, Hari's and Ilaiyaraaja's.
2. ithu sangEEtha thirunAllO
This is also very good. Same tune with
different orchestration.
3. oru pattAm pOOchchi
Geetha: When I heard first time this album,
nothing struck my mind with the resemblence of
'innum ennai'. But after you pointed out, I'm also
thinking that it has some traces of 'innum'. I
have to listen to both songs one more time to
convince myself.
In this song Ilaiyaraaja's orchestration is
completely innovative. If you listen to it
properly, whenever the singers sing 'oru pattAm
pOOchchi', IR used an instrument (I don't know
what instrument it is, Srikanth, can you help me
here?) to reflect the sound (not exact sound)
usually made by wings when butterfly flies. I
think in whole song, they will be singing this
line four or five times, at one time, he hasn't
used this trick and tried to give us 'nenjukkulle
suttrukindrathO' feeling. Another Excellent song.
4. Anantha kuyilin pAttu
Though I don't like the way MV singing that
one line, it's a good song.
5. aiyA vOOdu
Dappanguthu song for a fisherman, Whatelse can
you expect?
6. vizhilyil vizhi
The beginning of this song is too good. When
Vijay and Bhavatharini singing the same lines, but
the difference in timing between their voice makes
this beautiful. Okay song.
I can't say anything about Jeans. Since I heard
couple of songs only on the net, I couldn't judge
the songs. But as far as I heard, 'kannOdu' sounds
good.

I think the songs in Jeans were better then KM. Not to say that the songs of KM stunk, they were good also...but in comparsion, Jeans was much better.

Geetha:
It is really surprising that u did not observe that there is a number in Jeans that resembles "Sonare..Sonare..' (old tamil "Naerukku ... Naer ).

Well the reason is as simple as this, hear 'ennai talatta..." and listen to any other song in Jeans. The KM is tune is very very simple( not complex I mean) and so are the beats. If u listen carefully the drum beat is synonomous to the heart beat. Its as if the person's heart is singing it out. IR has bought out such a marvelous thing in that simple song. Of course no doubt the songs of Jeans are too good. But when it come to KM Vs Jeans I would vote for KM.

I think KM was much much better than Jeans. First of all, the screen play of Jeans is not upto the standards which Shankar has set himself. Ofcourse the Songs Sequences are taken elegently, but we cannot appreciate a movie just for songs. On the other hand Fazil had a very excellent screen play which moves smoothly and takes our heart in the climax. With IR no wonder the songs are exceptionally good; interestingly at times the songs too tell the story !! Hats off to Fazil and IR !! Better luck next time Shankar !!

Vasudevan, we are just discussing the soundtracks not the movie, direction, or screenplay.

I have so far heard only 3 songs in jeans..
Columbus Columbus .. Reminds me of Mustafaa
Sonare ............. Varayo thozhi.
Athisayam.... When will ARR and VM get rid of this algorithm..
Jeans may be a bigger hit than KM in commercial terms ( True.?? ) but quality wise KM stands way better. Morover u don't need to know english to listen to KM songs. Hats of to PalaniBharathi !!

I think the quality of the recording is affected by the company which releases it. Jeans was released by Pyramid. In average, pyramid has a better recordings compared to other companies except (OMI). However, KM was released by Bhasky. Bhasky's recording is not great compared to pyramid. There are many examples and KM is indeed one of them. The others would be Neruku Nerr. I also believe that we should compare apple to apple not with orange. IR has done marvellous job in Aathma and the recording was simply superb. IMO, KM had too much base.

Hi,
The quality depends on the budget for the movie.
If producers are willing to spend more on the recording the quality will be more.
KM Sounds better than all rrecordings of Raja in the past few years.
Basically sound balacing in Rajas output is not so good. More quality is expected, he can do better.

Srikanth:
What I tried to say about the companies that market the CD's. Bhasky has a low quality of recording. If you don't believe me, check the Neruku Nerr album which was released by pyramid and Bhasky. Pyramid recording is much superior to Bhasky.

Yes Mano, I agree with you, the U-ire cd quality from basky is pretty power. in fact I called India and told my friends to somehow pass the information to ARR or his assist. noel about it.

As a film, KM would beat Jeans any day. It has got a good story line and quality in acting. As for Jeans I think the contributing factors to it's commercial viability are the songs, scenery and of course Aishwarya Rai. Even though I liked "Adhisayam" in Jeans a lot, "Ennai Thalaatta Varuvalo" has made a greater on me. Hariharan's vocal touches the listeners and appeals to their senses. The music is soothing and pleasing to the ears.

did u notice that in KM,
the picturisation of the
songs was pretty ordinary,
while the picturisation of
songs in jeans would have
definitely helped in liking
the songs better? so, if
KM sounds great, it is purely due to IR , while if u
like jeans numbers, it might be due to shankar
as well.

Is this thread JEANS Vs KM or Athisayam Vs "Ennai Thalaatta Varuvalo".
If its former then vote goes to JEANS. If look at Album as whole JEANS is good and KM is okay.(I didn't see both the movies, I am commenting on the Album alone).
If it is Athisayam Vs "Ennai Thalaatta Varuvalo", then my vote goes to "Ennai Thalaatta Varuvalo".Although I feel IR could done better in orchestration and sound balance. The tune stands apart.

I am not against K.M, but Jeans is a completly different movie than K.M. Jeans got nice music and advance computer animation. Eventhough Jeans got the same story like nam iruvar namaku iruvar and the other movie with karthik. its different way of telling the story, overall its a good movie for me.

From my point of view KM&JEANS are like east &west.Jeans is a 100%commercial movie .there is no story just the same "masala" of all the tamil movies.most of the songs has a resemblens of the previous movies of ARR except ADHISAYAM SONG.
KM is really very good &the theme is some thing new apart from that the music of raja sir.No words to express the way how it has touched our hearts specially"ennai thallata varuvallo"Voh something suuuperb!
