  I hope the committee develops enough grey matter and heart to consider 'appa appa ayyappa' for 2000. They've got to realise that Deva could bring in 'Jhoom barabari Jhoom sharabi' and traditional Hindu Bhakthi within the same song. Another candidate should be "Chekka Chekka Chivantha puLLE'

  Thanks for the Link. God! PD has come to senses. When I saw Hera Pheri, I was taken aback. Songs never connected to the Film and the Shirodhkar song was intolerable(She looks good, right!!). However that was one good Hindi Movie I have seen in years(or is it decades?).
  PD should come back to South where he will be better recognized!

  All said and done, a major portion of the songs of PD films were of commercial type, yes even the Malayalam ones (some are even copies, recycles etc.)

  His comments about national awards(in his own words)
  
  After he sang 'sangeetha jadhi mullai'(kadhal oviyam) he said:

  Well everyone feels sorry for HeyRam for not getting 6 or 7 awards. Everyone is aware of that Kamal did that movie on pupose of getting awards for himself as well as other stuff. I saw that movie. Only costumes was good. One should not judge the film by costumes alone. Everyone knew about Pre-Independent struggle. Why should the audience expect films like Hey ram to get an award. According to me Sethu was a good choice. That movie made everyone cry. It had something in it. We have to recognise new stars. We should stop noticing the people who already won awards. I'm so happier that Kamal didn't get award.
  Of course everyone knows that Panel gives a partial justification. I was more dissatisfied for the award given to the music director. I don't know what they saw/hear in that "Nibuda" song.
  But atleast public like us has to encourage new artists.

  eventhough it is an old issue now, i would like to tell one thing. MGSreekumar is one of good singers from kerala but definitely the song "Chandupottu.." has got nothing special about it. There are lot of other new aspiring singers like SonuNigam,UditNarayan(Hindi) and even jesudas SPB Songs from 1999 deserved this coveted award. Sometimes it looks unusual and unbelievable about the judgement. anyway, I just mentioned my personal view that's all. nothing personal against MGSreekumar

  The 'Nimbuda' song from HDDCS (gawd! The title is nearly as long as the film) was a STRAIGHT lift from a CD released by a Rajasthani folk artiste who composed this song when he was 12 years old!
  He was chosen to represent India in the Festival of India in France and it's on this occasion that the CD was released. The sad thing this, the fellow didn't even know the name of the movie that had his song and was informed about it by a friend who came across it on radio. Says a lot about our National Awards!
