thanks a lot for this great news - whenever there is experimentation - ppl invariably come to the genius. no doubt that IR will come up with a great score. One thing I noticed is that kannukkul nilavu was never included as recent IR hits. KN is a great album and is veryyy melodious to listen to......

rf, I think this movie would make IR very happy and give him a lot of scope...
In one interview he was speaking very highly about the bgm of Amadeus. You could feel from the tone that he had a deep desire to work on a movie like that.

I saw Kamal's interview by Malan y'day (15) on Sun TV. Talking about Hey Raam, Malan mentioned that IRs world-class BGM in the movie mesmerised him, and said that he never ceased to be amazed by the fact that Abdul Kalam and IR came from such limiting backgrounds in TN, and went on to achieve such international quality work.
Kamal commented about how he had to go to his friend IR after all the songs were shot, and how IR had to compose within the given beats, frames, etc. kind of limitations. He likened it to the performance of a master magician who's tied up, bundled and locked in a cage that's then set on fire, but still manages to come out triumphant. He said that nobody else could've done what IR did for the movie, and that creatively HR offered him the greatest satisfaction, for its technical virtuosity in terms of music, art, camera, etc.

Got to report this. I am not sure if this is posted here.

" This disappointing score gets an extra star rating for the stroke of genius that closes this album. The divine Lata Mangeshkar teams up with musical maestro Ilayaraja for the first time in a Hindi film. The Nightingale has sung Tamil songs for the musical marvel. This is her first song in Hindi for him. And what a coming together it is!
Usually, the mukhda is the most attractive part of a song. But Ilayaraja's Kaun dagar enters the stanzas with such rare and precise elegance, and his orchestration is so brilliant, you want him to do more Hindi films right away, especially now when the man who stole his thunder seems to be at his lowest ebb.
A lyric about ravaged womanhood, Kaun dagar is a composition worthy of Lataji. Which is more than what we can say about the rest of the score by Anu Malik. His best bet in the album is the two-version Kalyug ki Seeta. One version is pepped up by the irrepressible Shubha Mudgal, who returns to Anu's territory after Aks with more fuel for the fire. One quibble about this track - We wish the credits had taken the trouble to acknowledge the lovely alaaps by Mahalaxmi that accompany Mudgal's singing. In comparison, Anuradha Paudwal's version of Kalyug ki Seeta is pretty pale. Pretty, but pale. Also, the lyrics about Ravan ravishing Sita in every era is cliched. The same holds true of the entire score, which doesn't seem to deliver the forceful melodic message that we expect from this album. Badi mushkil is another version of Chamma chamma, which Anu probably wanted to do in honour of Baz Luhrman. Originality be damned.
Even Saajan ke ghar jaana hain (sic) (why the added "n" in the credits?), which gets the honour
of being featured twice over, is pretty vapid stuff in spite of layer upon layer of orchestral
affectations, when compared with Alka Yagnik's wedding song for A R Rahman in Zubeidaa.
As for Jiyo jiyo, Sameer can certainly do better than Life is like ice cream, pal pal pighalti
jaaye. A slurp on the face, what? And by the way, the usually capable KK sounds more like Anu than himself.
Lajja's songs once again prove that Rajkumar Santoshi doesn't have much of a music sense. Thank God for Ilayaraja, who is doing the background score of Lajja, and whose one
contribution to this soundtrack in Lataji's voice elevates the banal to the beautiful."
Pls. Ignore if this is already posted.

"
Even with Ilyaraja’s help, Malik disappoints in this album. After the splendid success he has had this year, like Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, Aks, etc… he has
disappointed with his latest music composition, including the Subhash Ghai directed Hritik starrer, Yaadein. "

Had a good laugh when Avinash, the reviewer said that the Lata song 'Kaun Dagar' sounds like ARR's 'Ek Tu Hi BharOsa' from Pukar!!!
Shows what an 'ear' he's got for music!!! :)
Any lay listener would say that the songs have nothing in common except well.. the singer!

Looks like IR did not accept compensation to work on 'Kutti'.

Here's a gist of the above story:
KASI is a new big budget film produced by the famous Malayalam producer, 'Aroma' MaNi (his prev. record includes such hits as CBI Diary KuRippu, Comissioner, 20am NootrAndu, and Muthu in Tamil).
It's written by Gokula Krishna and directed by the popular Mal. director, Vinayan.
Vikram is the hero, KAvya MAdhavan is the heroine.
Lyrics and by VAli, Pulamai Pithan, Pazhani Bharati. And the MD is Ilayaraja.

raja visiri
Just to update you, the Malayalam films Vinayan directed include "Dada Saheb" and "Karumadi Kuttan", and not Thatha Saheb and Karumari!
As for this particular movie "kasi" you're discussing, it looks like a remake of "Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum" a surprise blockbuster starring Kalabhavan Mani in the lead role of a blind villager. K Mani was supposed to have lost out to Mohanlal in last year's national awards by a vote, and is said to have fainted on hearing the news!
IMO, Vinayan is an average director (D/Saheb and K/Kuttan were dreadful films), with some surprise successes at the box office.. And Aroma Mani hasn't been known to have much of an aesthetic sensibility when it came to making most of his Mal films..
All said and done, let's just hope that the storyline of a visually challenged villager gifted in music will provide some simulation to IRs jaded senses..

wooow, seems like one, great oppurtunity for IR. Sometime , I think he should give such GOLDEN oppurtunities to KR. He has been with him, for the past 10 years, helping him out. An oppurtunity like this, for KR would be real break through for him.

Has anyone listened to complete songs of ucire by IR. I think they are simply sweet and melodious, IR has used some tune patterns of 80's and good orchestrization. The solos by Mano and Chitra are very good.
