Rathiriyil poothirukum is by pulamai pithan..
oh vasantha raja is by Gangai amaran...
coming to the Point..
in Andi mazhai ..
what is that indiran thotathu mundiri
manmadha natuku mandiri
It is definitely used of yedhugai monai..
If Raja Gooja is Definitely Great ...
then Take It Easy is, samba samba oh samba ore,
no problem are Really Very Very Great...
atleast in Vaali's songs sex is hidden
in VM's it's Very frank..
in Citizen most of the songs r like that
" Bangalore thakkali nan nanba rusi parka vayillaya thakali maru nal thangadhada???"
What a Nice lyrics
In the Same movie
siki muki kallu
song " yen pasi arindhu pal kudathai pakam veithu ponavar yaro"
very nice tooo...
so Comparatively Vaali does a fine job than him..
He himself giving Kaviperarasu title.. will never become a Genius..

English Words mixing is common .. It has increased nowadays .. From olden days .. It's there.. Oh my dear little flower from Neelavanam,
one full english song from Thavapudalvan all by KD
so usage of english words has not started now..
Dont blame Vaali alone in that Case..
and dont Back VM as if he hasnt used English words at all
HAi I like u, style style than, hai ra hai ra hai rabba, LKG vayasil nan EPCo padithen etc,..
these r few to quote
so Usage of English Words r not Crime..
Whether it's VM or Vaali
We here r commenting on his tamil junks mainly..

VM is just another TFM Lyricist, but he's getting more familiarity than he actually deserves. He occasionally comes up with few good lines amongst his junks. So, it is absolutely ridiculous to compare him with KD or Bharathiar(Nalla veLAi, Thiruvalluvar, Ilnago -ellam vuttu vachAnga?!)
Consider this song: 'Kamban Engu pOnAn? Shelly enna AnAn?'. Do any of u think, two young lovers will be wondering where kamban/shell r? (Not even the literature students will think/sing like this, when they r in love! Its not even a background song, wherein u can justify saying that its direcots/poet's way of describing them)
"Yaar yaro nanban endru yemantha nenjam undu."
This line is simple, I agree, but it din stop there, listen to the lines that follow that. And remember, simplicity is better than stupidity.
VM's work is like a teenage girl, it attracts u by the first sight, look, smell, but it has got NOTHING.His words sound good, but means JUNK.
B4, appreciating the lyrics in a TFM song, c what that line/song has to do with the movie/story, then make ur criticism.

A few things some of you dont seem to understand :
1) Sex in Songs are what lyricists are asked to add - don't blame them - it is commercial business and not a literary decision
2) Lines like "Pullu kodutha Paalu kudukum" - are words that are very simple but you got to admit that it has a depth of meaning - words like these are used in songs that are mostly targeted at rural audiences.
3) You have to understand film making, song writing is all done with a thorough study of the type of audience they are catering to - so you will always find cliches, double entendre etc.
Finally, a recent cliche of VM I would like to bring to your notice :
It seems that he is so happy at the discovery of this metaphor which he had successfully used in "Rhythm" - Water - "Nadiye Nadiye..Neeyum Pen Thane"
He is repeating this very often....I heard a TV serial song "penned" by VM (Punnagai or Snegithe) on Sun TV - he again compares woman to a river...
and I heard a couple of TF songs where this reference comes again..dont you think that he is stretching it a bit too far ?

I don't agree with this cosmician. It is justifyable for a case like kattipudi kattipudi da. Whereas not in case of love duets. VM has written sexy lines almost explicitly in love duets also. Same applies with vaali too.

Well, if that is the case Kupps, then why doesn't the director of the film say no ?

why should a poet say yes? doesn't he have sense of morality and dignity?
take the case of arivumathi. he may not be popular. but, he refuses to add english words in his songs. that is really admirable!
if your arg. is that one should not take film songs as literary works, why then vm feels proud of his songs and say he is kavip perarasu and all the conceited blabberings
and, even this cliche (woman and river) is not his own. a long time back the writer sandilyan has compared some women to be the jeevanathi of india.

>>he refuses to add english words in his songs. that is really admirable! <<
Frankly, every lyricist would like to have some individuality (thaniththuvam) in their works. VM has shown this in a variety of ways as his ancestors did. Arivu can not follow the same as VM since usage of english has been recognized by TFM fans as one of the 'thaniththuvam' of VM for his style of presentation. This is not something which can be admired , whereas this is understandable.
Another distinguishing feature(thaniththuvam) of VM lyrics is the way with which he presents. Comparing women to river is not new , agreed. But , one should be able to appreciate/criticize (by all means) he is presenting even old ideas.
Thaniththuvam is one area which Vaali's lyrics have been devoid off all these years. He has not inscribed signature(pattern) of his own in his lyrics with which someone can say " this one has to be from Vaali". All his contemporaries in the last three decades did prove their thaniththuvam eg. Pattukkottai, Kannadasan, VM .
Of course, one thaniththuvam that Vaali had was that he comes with rare gems and surprise people when they discover that they are actually Vaali's works and not Pulamaipiththan/Kannadasan/Pattukottai/VM.

raj,
athini, sithini, pathmini, tharangini - these are the words that describe 4 kinds of women., As far as I remember, there is no English word in the poem !
ARivumathi has said that he won't use English words in his songs and he won't write anything that brings bad image to thamizhar kalacharam ! I am proud that he is following it sincerely - in the midst of all these 'podaaaa pooRaaa, maalai podaaa pooRaa' trend !
