Fan,Udhaya,
Ayyoo...i wasn't generalising "we" very much.
Neither can we come to a conclusion that Karthik
and I are the only ones to like ARR's songs and
the tamil pronounciation.
I am just saying this out of pure love of
music. I agree that I don't have any technical
knowledge in music like you do.
To me "Thee thithikkum thee...." song from
Thiruda Thiruda with that strange pronounciation
of the words were more catchy. I am not sure
it would have been the same top hit if sung
by Susheela or Janaki.
IR eruntha kaalathil nobody cared for the
quality of the recordings. ARR completely
revolutionised this. I still enjoy his Roja
songs in my ordinary Creative Blaster giving
all the concert hall, etc effects. It is
far better than IR's songs.
Athay pol entha new try by ARR using northies
to sing the tamil songs. Some are really good
the way it sounds. But some are really unhearable.
To me if the change is good I enjoy it.
thirupi thirupi same kind of ucharippai kettu
aluthu pona ennakku this was a nice change.
If we take this tamil ucharippu a bit far, then
can we compare Bhagavathar/ sundrambal to spb or mano?

bug,
As of today musically arr is way ahead.
He is more creative, his instrumentation and recording really amazing
but i am becoming to feel he is misusing his status.Thats all is my claim, i am more against the pronounciation, it sounds like they are doing those mistake wantedly in the name of "new music"

Well.. I thought bad tamil pronounciation was a 'product feature'of ARR's songs :)

Bug I'm sorry to repeat this, unga logic'um sagikala. Just because you get bored listening to the same way of Tamizh delivery and pronunciation, you need a change.. The beauty of Tamizh lies in its delivery and pronunciation. It's your own opnion and there are millions who would like to hear correct Tamizh delivery and personally I don't want to hear Tamizh from Udit or for heaven's sake from Sukwinder. Also Songs mark the age and period. Just go back and see how it was delivered in the old movies. It's just a joy to hear and watch them. Aanna ippo.......kadavule. I studied in an Anglo-Indian school, where I was fined if spoke in Tamilzh. But still we were seen to that the spoken Tamizh is correct during our Tamzh classes. Also the argument of sound recording doesn't fit here.

bug i dont get you argument on KBS and SPB.
???...
As far as i know there are only very very few circumstances where spb did a incorrect pronounciation. one song I know is vasamilla malaridhu,
infact during live shows our lead singer will also make that mistake!...intentionally :)
This is what happens when a topper makes mistakes
people follow it.

the one non-thamizhar who did a good (actually great) job was ajoy chakrabhorthy. if he could do such a fabulous job in rendering such a beautiful song (written by IR whose tamil is in no way inferior to many "established" poets :-) ), what prevents the likes of udits and suckwinders? it's the attitude. that's what WE :-) don't tolerate!

Swami,
I completely agree with the fact that
the old songs are a joy to listen to.
Antha kaalathil thaarai thambattum vechu
vaasichukittu erunthaanga.Do we still
need to use those?
Didn't we enjoy the new digital music?
Athu accept panna mudinthathu nammaal.
But this we can't accept.
Cos as Fan said ARR does this "wantedly".
Why don't we just think in ARR's shoes?
He is a businessman. He is trying to make money
out of whatever he could give to the public.
If the public doesn't enjoy whatever he gives,
he will become another IR.
So what I am trying to say is that he is trying
these things "wantedly" cos people accepted it.
One cannot be successful all the time. Some of
his northies sung songs are sagikala but other
songs were accepted by the people.
IMHO, i think my logic is right. Unless tamilians
accepted his northie's songs NOWAY ARR (A pakka
businessman) will give his own stuff and make
people to listen to.I think I belong
to the MAJORITY of the mass which doesn't
care about the pronounciation.
That is why ARR is still in the field
(ruling the entire indian film industry)
I brought the recording stuff as an example
to show that people have changed their ways
of listening to music when compared to MSV, IR
period.

Fan,
I don't know what i thought
when i brought in KBS and Spb.
I was trying to make a point
that the old "pure" tamil words
got replaced slowly. If we are so
particular about "thooya" thamizh
then everyone should start singing
along the lines of bhagavathar.
Agreed ARR is bit "over" in this
pronounciation.
I think this is what I was thinking.
I might be wrong. If so, I get corrected
in advnace ONLY on this point alone.
:-)
Arul,
Thapaga eduthu kola koodathu. Whose attitude
sucks? Is it ARR or Udits?
You have made a very good point. Chakraborty's
song really surpasses the efforts of ARR.Kudos
to IR for bringing us such a beauty. There
also chakraborty has mispronounced some
tamil words. But we didn't make much fuss out
of it.Appo engay pochu namba thooya thamizh
ucharippu.

bug, digital music is got nothing to do with "pronounciation"
also you have told he is doing wantedly, thats what I say, but this is going out of control.
in the name of new form of singing , songs are turned into crap.
"Tamil language becomes the scape goat".
Bug you are tring hard, the fact is 2 songs are total waste. Arr emathitar, he went with andrews or bhats etc etc -- leaving his home town folks to hear junk in the name of "something new".
btw:
Arul sandadi sakula...ir song, avar kavingar...ellam potu mmmm good try :))

Bug<\U><\B>,
Northies sollum
tamil words is different than the usual ones
ethuvum oru nice change endru rasikka vendiyathu
thaan.(like a new exotic tune).
Adhu oru changeukkaaga irundhaal pudhumaiya irukkum.
However, if it is given the status of a regular feature in every film, then it is a different story.
Even a few decades ago, a novel experiment was attempted to get Mohd Rafi to sing in Tamil for an MSV song - however, for some reason, it did'nt materialize and MSV sang it himself. Similarly, Lata and Asha or Usha Uthup singing a few numbers once in a while qualifies as something done for a change, something novel and is welcomed.
The problem arises when songs meant to have an emphasis on their lyrical content are given to singers like Sadhana or Udit, and the end result leaves the singer and the listener equally uncomfortable.
A "chikku bukku railE" by Suresh Peters is fine, but imagine him singing a "nila kaaigiradhu" in the same manner.

Bug and Karthik,
In this argument u have I think forgotten to address seriously the point that I brought up earlier regarding bhavam. Iam not sure whether these northie singers understand the meaning of the lyrics or words to sing these songs. u can say that it doesnt hurt tamil and all that. But i feel the musical aspect of it too takes a beating.
Compare SPBs bhaavam with all these blokes(hariharan to udit). why is he able to give that extra laugh here, that extra kuzhaivu there etc.?
because he understands what the song is all about and thinks how he would sing if he were in that situation. same goes for SJ. whereas all these singers sing as they have been advised by their MDs with NO IMPROVISATION. result? song sounds so bland.
one more reason why TFM syatndards are going down.
can u name atleast one northie singer who is close enough to bhaavam with SPB,SJetc.?
ARR just uses these singers as a gimmick. next time when any one of us meet him or if geetha reads this we should ask him this. I'll make an effort to remember this though iam a little aabsent-minded. i hope he doesnt give any pphilosophical answer like IR.

Addendum:
It seems KJY cried when rendering 'amma endrazhaikaatha uyirillaye' from Manna. I also felt that his voive had aslight pisiru at the end of the song. perhaps he choked a bit. such is the impact of good music when supplemented with good lyrics. u need to understand the context, the lyrics in order to deliver it with the required bhaavam.

Your comment Why don't we just think in ARR's shoes? He is a businessman. He is trying to make money out of whatever he could give to the public. is nothing but exemplifies the careless, outlandish attitude that is prevalent in the world today:-(( Let me remind you that of all the commercial sites on the web, most of the ones that make profit are the X rated ones. Come on, declare whether you'll support them?!
