Folks
I just couldn't help laughing at these posts. We all seem to be busy trying establish that IR is a genius. I just imagine if we would have spoken like this a decade back when ARR was not in the rador screen. Now that IR has gone, I repeat-gone, we want to some how justify that he was, after all, a good composer.
He was, is and will be considered a greatest music phenomenon ever walked in India. He's lost his creativity now. But that doesn't disqualify him of anything. It happens to all geniuses. He's not a machine to churn out tune after tune and we are not labors to keep oiling the machine and expecting continuous production. He did what no other composer in the world could do. And there it ends.
I rest my case.

Hello Sridhar Subhu,
Hav u listened to "Elangathu" song from Pithamagan. I have enjoyed it listenting to it over 100 times...it will touch your heart (if u fully understand the song, not just the rhythm alone) its one of the best number this year (the previous one was the Ramana - Vanavilley) and the one prior to that was (all the songs from Thankarbacchan's Film Azhaghi) ...
so where do u see the end? r u sure that u r talking about IR. check it out again..may be u have mistakenly put IR instead of ARR ;-)

"He was, is and will be considered a greatest music phenomenon ever walked in India. He's lost his creativity now. "
"He's not a machine to churn out tune after tune and we are not labors to keep oiling the machine and expecting continuous production. He did what no other composer in the world could do. And there it ends. "
Sridhar: could you please explain the real reason for these statements and how they make sense ;--)
is the Symphony not going to be great? and, so is this why fans like you are organizing the collection events in teh US?
second, Raja' critical mass is still buring like the core of the sun. Evidence is Sambu, Julie Ganapathy, some Kannada films etc... plus, fortcomin Sandiyar.
thirdly, he is probably the only musician with a contructive fan base influencing him to move into to new territories - oiling the machine is for doing same old schit. so, he is not a machine and his fans are not fools.
forthyly, it does not end. the music of IR which evolved over thousands of years and culminated in IR capturing not just the essence of his own feelings in music, but really what music is about, one single entity has been able to place it accurately in context. Only one thing ur right, he has done what no composer can imagine, but he is also doing something no one else has the power to do, that is using fans as "record producers"! This is like ESOP, fans stock options, is the way to go, only hope is that corruption does not get in the way of the purpose!!!!

Friends,
Am following these discussion threads for quite sometime now and I see that people time and again try to prove that IR is a genius .. do we really need to do anything to prove that? is it not obvious? In my opinion, it is extremely kiddish to compare IR with ARR who is still a "Kathukutti". Impressing the westerners or scoring music for an English Musical doesnt convey much. I saw people talking abt re-recording, which is IR's forte and Rahman needs to do something on that front. I did not use the word "improve" whilst talking abt Rahman and his re-recording skills. He completely lacks that ability. IR is a veteran. ARR chumma otaraan .. so dont compare.

I would like to answer Bala's post. By "Sridhar Subhu" I guess he was referring to me and my comments. Yes, "Ilangathu" is a decent number. "Vanaville" or other Azhagi numbers are passable.
Where is "Ilaya Nila Pozhigirathe", "Poongathu Thirumbuma" or "Anjali Anjali" Mr. Bala? Does "Ilangathu" come anywhere close to the numbers I've mentioned?
The fact is I'm not deriding IR when I say his creativity has come to an end. That happens to everybody. What happened to Michael Jackson, John Lennon can happen to IR too. Barathiraja can never give another Mudhal Mariyathai or Balachander can never produce one more "Avargal". And that does not mean they are not great anymore.
And I'm sure that this will happen to ARR too. A decade later some one else might come up who will make ARR look like he's from Jurrasic Era. Let's accept this and for heaven's sake let's not make this IR vs. ARR into one Rajini vs. Kamal kind of fight. It sucks.

MADDY, Sridhar Subramaniam:----
I don't know if u r old or young or mad or iliterates.
But before talking about a person like IR have respect who has spend his complete life for music than ARR only for money.
IR is always greatest. Irrespective of what junk ARR does.

"for music than ARR only for money. "...
yea yea...at least he stages concert for poor cancer patients....unlike those who signs every single movie on the way..and yet when he wants to do something so-called noble "TiS" he needs money from other's pocket...man ...u r sooo rich..why can't fund the project urself?

Maddy, When we're talking about ARR or IR, why bring me into the discussion? How does it matter whether I'm 22 or 65? I'm actually 32 year old guy and I grew up listening to Illayaraja, Beatles, Micheael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna, Deep Purple and Scorpions. Not exactly in that order though.
As a matter of fact, it's not me who is talking about IR disrespectfully. It is others in this forum who talk about ARR disrespectfully.
Maddy, you must understand the fact that all the IR fans who try mudslinging at ARR don't realize that, by doing so, you're taking ARR seriously. For instance, why doesn't anybody in this forum try to compare IR with Deva? Why am I not seeing any discussion on IR music vs. Chandrabose compositions? Please think about it. Those who crucified Christ were actually scared of Him.
Let us not cricify ARR. He is doing us proud abroad. Today I'm glad to say that I hail from the place where ARR and IR live. Let us hope and pray that we get more such names.

Sridhar,
Comparing IR vs IR u may be right, cos the songs which u mentioned as great were composed in his prime time of his career. But IMO comparing IR with the current lot of junk MD's he is still the greatest.
