So, Vairamuthu had the "decency" to decline Kaviarasu but was "modest" enough to accept Kavi Perarsu ? Funny. May be he thought his fans don't know as much tamil to differentiate between the two. With fans like Nandini, may be he thought right.

hi chandrasekar,
VM has wrote more songs than KD.
VM cant say he is better than KD he has to be humble.
kamal can never say he is better than sivaji, even if that is true.
i have listned to almost all songs of kannadasan and of vairamuthu. thats why i was able to compare them.
i said kannadasan was not in his senses on a true sense. it was a fact. you and i cant deny it.
he was drunk in many of the compositions.
he needed that many times for his free flow of thoughts.
and to srikanth,
i am surprised people think like this.
'padmashri' vairamuthu never used the titles given to him.
in all of his books and in any of his autographs he used kaviyarasu or kaviperarasu your thoughts might be right.
the movie title makers decide on what to put for whom.
he asked his fans and others not to use kaviyarasu as it had many oppositions.
he did not ask anyone to use this one.
and chandrasekar,
have you read the poems of ponmani vairamuthu,
i have, the first one is called ponmani vairamuthu kavidhaigal and the second one is meendum saraswathi.
she has done only two comparing the 28 poetry collection of VM. she is a scholar too.
i think they both are M.A in tam lit.
and she is a doctorate.
her poems are mostly about feminism and local views of her.
VMs poems are mostly of international view.
have you read VMs poem 'kaalandhoarum kaadhal'
the best poem ever produced in tam lit according to me is that one.
you must have read them both before keying your text i think.
i am not biased towards VM.
i have read most of the works of KD.
i am a die hard fan of many of his writings in arthamulla indhu madham and many of his poems.
but i found someone more interesting than him.
better than him.
its just my view.
what you are talking is your view.
you have your own paradigm i have my own paradigm of the same topic.
i am not asking you to shift yours to mine.
i just exhibited mine.
as i cant say your view is wrong,
you cant say my view is wrong.
i stick to one throne many king concept.
i like the successor you like the predecessor.
its all that simple.

This is enough to put an end of the argument with you..Surely nobody can think of arguing with you....

Hi Nandini
OK Maam, TRUCE!!
I accept your argument, to my mind KD is the best.
accrdg to you VM is the best. As you said, everybody have their own ideas and opinions.
Also, I would like to say that if drinking alone
can make a person so thoughtful, everybody in this world would be on drinks and would have tried their luck in poetry. That is only hypothetical. So, liquor was just a pep KD required to arouse his feelings which transformed
into memorable songs.
And I am not very sure whether VM has written more
songs than KD, if somebody can throw light on this, I would be grateful to them.
And regarding tastes, I cannot blame you at all,
because it is quite natural that people like something new always. But for me OLD IS ALWAYS GOLD. And KD songs are 22 carat gold and glittering always.
Of course, this is my opinion, and I am very
sure that many will agree with me except of course
Nandini.

Nandini,
Didn't you know that Madhavan is a better actor than Kamala Hassan? :)
It is your prerogative to think VM is better than KD.
It is my prerogative to laugh at such opinion.
Nothing personal.
Cheers,
Srikanth

Hi Nandini,
If you are happy in calling Kannadasan a drunkard/womanizer, so be it. However see the words came out from his mind.

Sri, doesn't the last song that you quoted look like the writings of a high school student at the best? Is this good poetry?

bb,
Kavignar Kannadasan's lyrics are targeted on the common people, not necessarily for the literates. His poems are not exaggerated unnecessarily. That is his specialty. With simple and natural words he brings out the most meaningful songs. Even his dream songs do not go beyond limit like the one below:
nitham oru vaanam vEndum
sontha aagaayam vEndum
jodi nilavonru vEndum
For me this sounded like a child asking something meaningless to its mother.
You may want to think yourself as an expecting parent while listening to the 'poo pola' song, I am sure you will appreciate that.
Regards.

:) I am a fan of Kannadasan too, but I cannot agree that the above song is a great one just because it is simple. There is simplicity and then there is banality.

Ilayaraaja on Kannadasan from a TV program (couple of years ago):
IR narrated his first experience with Kannadasan. At that time IR was working under GK Venkatesh for a Kannada movie. The tune was very complex and the kannada lyricst had a very hard time in fitting words for the tune. After some period, GK Venkatesh re-used the same tune for a tamil movie and Kannadasan was the lyricst. To IR's astonishment, Kavignar told the words instantly.
That song is:
thEn sinthuthE vAnam unai enai
thaalaattuthE
BTW, in the same program IR mentioned that the lyricsts these days need at least a day or two to walk all over the park in order to write a song. He didn't mention VM's name but that comment was meant for him.

Aren't these words from the song "Puththam pudhu bhoomi vendum " song from TT...
Who is the actual lyricist...I know that VM did it for TT...but to whom does the lines above belong to originally?
