Mike,
Usually 'Real World' produces most of his albums.
And for somebody here who did not like NFAK's voice. Let me say it sounds cool to me . To others it is the 'Voice of the century'. Here is a collection of reviews on cdnow.com on his NightSong album.
----------------------------------------------
4 Stars (out of 5) - "...the Pakistani singer...has not only the stylistic qualities
that appeal to Western ears but also the talent necessary to tear through the
scrim of exoticism that often cloaks world music, delivering a consuming
musical experience..."New York Times (3/17/96, sec.2, p.35) - "Nusrat
Fateh Ali Khan has one of the great voices on the planet and is one of the
great improvisers too....NIGHT SONG is a Westerner's dream of
mysticism; the collaboration produces special, moody music."Musician
(4/96, p.92) - "...Khan has never really rocked the way he does here....his
ornamentation underscored the music's rhythmic flow, playing off the drums
and synth pulse as avidly as any pop star..."JazzTimes (3/96, pp.82-121) -
"...a fruitful collaboration....Nothing so profound as Khan's Qaawwali
expression is heard here, but Khan/Brooks find some fascinating sonic
topics to have a dialogue over....It's a party with an undercurrent of spiritual
investigation."Entertainment Weekly (2/23-3/1/96, p.126) - "...Purists may
prefer Khan's earlier, more traditional releases, but this is a fine starting
place for the uninitiated." - Rating: B+
Rolling Stone 2/22/96, p.60

I think music is more than voice and instruments. To give a mathematical analogy - It is not the numbers involved that matters but the sequence. Just an honest and humble opinion.

Well, In my case I dont feel like listening to ARR s music that many times. I feel there is not much to explore. I like Iruvar though. Maybe I am skeptical of Indian guys doing Jazz and stuff like that. Because I expect Indian stuff from Indian guys. Ofcourse, anybody is free to do whatever they like. If I want to listen to Jazz my friends are encouraging me to listen to Oscar Peterson etc They say jokingly, 'Hey man, if you want to live in our country you better know who Oscar Peterson is'.
I have listened to Kadhalukku Mariyadhai atleast 5 to 10 times so far of serious listening. Even though Iruvar is interesting I didnt feel like going back to it. I have to get some latest albums and do some listening.

Vande Mataram was a great album, no doubt...
Being a Malaysian I'm supposed to be honest to my country but now I guess I'm not!
Rehman sirs loud expression on Vande Matharam brought me to love Indians...!
Vande Matharam...and JAI HIND!!!!!!!!
