Any idea why IR is not doing Little John by Singeetham? I think it would have given him more exposure outside India.

Friends tamil version has a different set of songs., I won't say they are better than the mallu version., But all songs seem to be good (IMO). Hariharan sings 4 songs., SPB in 2., Yesudoss's son Vijay in 2.,
But my pick of the album is Sujatha., 'Manjal Poosum'nnu oru song., Summaa poonthu kalakkiyirukkaanga., :-)

friends, mmmm...
though i feel three songs are good i'm bit sceptical about this album. imho IR has used ARR kind of technique; gently rehashing his own songs ie rehashing either the beat or rythm or tune or arrangement or some/all of the above. i feel he has used the kind of music (arrangement/rhythm or whatever it is i cannot say correctly) used in the songs "yennai thaalaatta varuvaalo" and "oh baby baby" kind of songs from 'Kaadalukku Mariyaadhai'.
One song is utter rehash of "chittan chittan kuruvi" of 'pudhu nellu pudhu naathu', the song is "pombalayoda potti poda..."
my vote goes for "manjal posum" by sujatha (as NagaS) and the first song in the cassette by bhavatharini and hariharan, they are simply superb.
interestingly one song "kuyilukku paatu.." is sung by the trio SPB, Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan. its also a good song.
i dont know why the second song in the cassette makes me to remember bappi lahari and laxmikant-pyarelal kind of hindi songs.
but friends please keep in mind that its based on my interpretation because i've no idea about any classical music and other kind of musical stuff. so this is not an actual review, its just my opinion.
in the audio cassette they have used actor vijay to speak something b4 every song; kind of "yen ineeya gramathhu makkalae" :-)

Subbu.,
I will try to wtite a review today evening,
KK.,
Good in IR fans' scale., Thats what I can say now., But when I went home last week, I saw the Cassette ADs everywhere., Looks like FiveStar Audio has lot of hope with this album. (IRkku puthusaa oru pattam koduththirukkaanga 'Isaich chakkravarththi' :-)
As far as TN Popular taste is concerned, IMO, This album CAN do as good as KaNNukkuL nilavu., Maynot be another KM., (Rompa kuzappaReenoo ;-)

Raja fan, if you are an IR fan you should have tamil fonts installed on your machine :) IR was very appreciative of Hungarian musicians speaking in their mother tongue. He has 'thamizh paRRu'. This is something one should emulate. One way we can do this is by using tamil software.
I hope you are not offended. Just take it as a suggestion.

Hi kiru..no offence in my statements too...but being an IR fan does not mean that you should have "tamil parru" for me his music extends without any barriers of language..just as the japanese artist felt...
This is what the vikatan article a japanese "OBO" (an instrument like a trumpet?) player met IR in hungary and conveyed to him that she wished to play for him some time..and IR "smiled" and left..after a month, called her to play for Pandavaas...and she praises IR for his melodious music and also goes on to say like many others that he is really great! :)

Kiru,
Just from curiosity, how is it that you say IR has tamil patru? I am not aware of him being any different then others in that regard...shall we start a thread on IR's tamil patru:-))

kiru,
it is indeed a weird statement that you made. People don't learn tamil because they don't/didn't have a chance. What if a tamil person is born/brought up in Meghalaya?/ Does that been that he should be barred from listening to IR's music??
Language and Music have no conection. I love IR's
telugu works, but Nanke Telugu Gothilla!!
PS: How is Dr.Ma.Nannan related to you??

abt this whole thamizh patru thing...
In the SUN TV Interview (before Hey Ram release) Raaja mentioned abt the Hungarians, and their passion for their language, and said they translate the standard musical terms (in Latin) to their mother tongue (on their scoresheets)!! In fact he said that we people, and he did say that included himself, didnt thave this, ... he was saying that he himself uses a lot of english words in his sentences, and he was apparently amazed by this quality he saw in those people...

REVIEW OF "FRIENDS" ALBUM
1) Thendralukku - By HH and Bhavatharini - Thebest song in this album. The way Bhavatharini has sungthis sng raises eyebrows. Especially wen se sings "Lalala... " before the 2nd stanza. Simply superb
2) Rukku Rukku - Sung by Vijay Yesudass and YSR. A perfect example of hos to compose an enthusiastic song withot much ofnoise or aarpaattam. Vija's voice is neat. The song has also been repeated in the B-side. Probably this is the song they are puting their money on.
3) Kuyilukku koo koo - by SPB, HH and SMD - I was particularly impressed by the way IR has orchestrated this song. Reminds me of IR of the 80's. The flute, tabla and violin made me feel that I was lisening to some authentic, native music after a long time.
4) Manjal poosum - Sujatha and Devan - Sujatha's mellifluous voice is a great asset to this song. Probably no one would have sung the song better. Once again IR shows why he is the Godod Music.
5) Pombalainga - Assomeone pointed out, it also reminded me of 'Chittan Chittan kuruvi'. The orchestration is simple. IR proves that you dont need to play 30-40 instruments to makea song attractiv. Simple beats and a good tune are more than enuff.
6) Pongaatrae - A sentimental song by HH , has been rendered well.Has to be seen with the movie to be enjoyed thoroughly.
7) Vaanam perisu dhaan - Probably the only mediocre song in the album. I was disappointed.
FINAL VERDICT - One should nothave "Bhrathi" in mind while listening to the songs of Friends, coz they are difrerent in many respects. However I strongly feel that it is yet another addition to the mastro's enormously feathered cap. Great work by IR.
Any views on this ?
