YGEETHA,
I don't know about Aadityan's new releases and works. I heard one ok song in the movie 'Roja Malarae' and I didn't feel that I have heard that tune before. Also, I have heard some other songs of Aadityan also and I felt that he was doing an ok job. If you read my posting again, you can understand that I was just rating Aadityan above Deva and Sirpi and I had also mentioned that he was nowhere near the top MDs (by using the word 'top', I don't mean the MDs who have most no. of films in hand). Anyway, thanks for the info. on 'Vennilavae'.
Arvind,
You are right. Regarding 'Arunachalam', myself being a 'theevira Rajni rasigan', I didn't like the songs before seeing the movie. But, after I saw the movie, I felt it was ok (It suited a Rajni movie). But after some days, the songs were out of my mind. Why the songs, the film itself was out of my mind? But if you take movies like 'Dalapathy', the songs are still there in my mind. I think Rajni should take more care regarding songs in his movies and not the regular stuff - one sandhosha thathuva paadal, one soga thathuva paadal, rendu duet, oru goshti paadal.

Methinks the "Quality" in Thenisai Thendral Deva's music just suits the standard of Rajni's movies these days. I was a die-hard Rajni fan till just not long ago. But his films these days are just kuppai. Muthu is an Ultrakuppai and so were the songs. UN singing for Rajni. I think it is the pinnacle of innovation. I heard that Apache Indian and Marilyn Manson are singing for Rajni in Padayappa. Thanks to our famous ARR.
I have written a small song praising super star's next venture...
Padayappa..

Vimal,
"Muthu" is one of Rajni's worst films. Before the film was released, there were so much expectations as KB advertised like this 'Super Star - Isai Puyal mudhal murayaaga inayum - Muthu'. I was comfortable with the title song 'oruvan oruvan' but UNs song was bad. "thillana thillana' was not as bad as 'Kuluvaalilae' but it too was not a great no. Other songs also didn't appeal (one by HH and the other by SPB and 'Theni' Konjaramma - I still wonder why ARR chose this lady to sing along with SPB!!!). Altogether 'Muthu' was a blunder. Being a Super Star Fan and an ARR fan, I sincerely wish their new venture 'Padayappa' does well. Andha nerathula ippadi oru gunda thookki podureengalae (Apache Indian paadurarnu solli). ViLayaattukku kooda appadi sollaadheenga. Indha padai sori paatta yerkanavae Muniyandinnu oruthar ezhudhi irukkar, innoru threadla. Wonder how most of the DF people get the same view on 'Padayappa'.

I am surprised how ARR opted to work for 'padayappa' when he his so choosy about the quality of theme , story of padayappa. This raises doubt as to whether ARR is genuinely interested in strong story line or famous directors and super stars to work with. On a comparative basis some movies of saratkumar are better in story than the same-old-masala rajni movie. Also i don't see a big difference in acting between rajni and saratkumar, the latter has shown better in recent times. I can give an example of 'natpukkaga' which had a better story than any masala movie having 3 dances , 4 fights , 6 songs and 'kathula poo sutharamathiri' climax. I think ARR should indeed work for movies with better story. I read in tamilcinema website that 'padayappa' is another masala like muthu and i wonder what ARR is going to give any different than that movie!

Rameshb,
I don't think ARR is that choosy. He has composed music for films like 'Pudhiya Mannargal' and 'Pavithra' which didn't boast of a great star cast and for films like 'Vandicholai Chinraasu' which didn't have a great story line (in fact, it had a very dull screenplay and an 'aracha maavu' story). Where did he get inspiration to score music for those films? As far as ARR is concerned, he is reported to have quoted once that he is not that inspired to score music for a Rajni movie. I heard that 'Padayappa' maybe Rajni's last film (or is it a rumour wantedly spread by some people to create more expectations on the film among the public - marketing strategy???). If at all it is going to be Rajni's last film, he should come up with a performance as in the movie 'Aarilirundhu arubadhu varai'. I wonder if Rajni himself can bring out a like-wise performance at present. It is also high time he comes up with something new in his next ventures otherwise I fear tomorrow he may become like what Amitabh Bachan is today. As someone quoted in this thread, "Thenisai Thendral" Devavin isai dhaan Rajniyin masala padangalukku suit aagum. Since all the recent Rajni films are masalas I also feel Deva will be a better choice as MD.

last year '1998' , ARR had just two (mega) films Jeans and Uyire. Though jeans did not have good story, 'Dilse' had better story compared to other films and ARR really did well in hindi version. I personally liked a few songs of Dilse. Both were directed by super-duper directors of film industry and that made me to think if he is becoming particular about the director/actor(s). It is a fact that he DID work for flop films and underrated actors before. But looking at 'padayappa', he seems to be only going after big banner actors/directors now. But this may be a prematured opinion as he has a long future. But as for as 'padayappa' goes, Rajni seems to be having elderly role also in the movie. But it remains to be seen as to whether it has a good story and ARR will be better used in that movie. If you look at the success of 'Jeans' album, ARR may be able to repeat the same provided Rajni doesnot put any barriers by saying he wants 2 "philoshophical" songs and spoil the album.

Rameshb,
From what I read from some Thamizh magazines, it seems Rajni is doing a dual role in this movie also. Rajni does not concentrate much on the story part of his movies. IR is supposed to have quoted once that it is difficult to compose music for a Kamal Hassan film than to compose music for a Rajnikanth film. He said Kamal will try to get the best and will not get satisfied easily. But Rajni will leave everything to IR and will get easily satisfied. But, I doubt if ARR can change his style of music that easily. I won't call 'Muthu' a Rajni album or ARR album. It was, IMO, "araivekkaadu". I feel ARR will like to stick to his own style and it will take a while for him to adapt to Rajni films. Anyhow, as a Rajni fan and also a ARR fan I wish all success for "Padayappa".

folks,
Please do not forget "Vande Mataram" from 1998. ARR had three movie releases(Jeans, Uyirae, Doli Saja Ke Hakhna) and "Vande Mataram" in 98. He spent a lot of time with Vande Mataram specially with the videos. VM was a milestone !

Ajit, bb is right. "Vande Matharam" album itself was produced to celebrate India's 50th year of Independence by Bala - Kanika. Remember, ARR performed in the stage before many of the then Indian ministers (Don't know if some of them are ministers still, but, in the BJP government) that day and after the performance the then Indian PM I.K.Gujral went to the stage and congratulated ARR. If it is August 1998, then the PM would have been A.B.Vajpayee. Gujral was PM only till mid-March 1998.

It seems I'm the only person who enjoyed the music of 'Muthu'(most were copies from US hits) though the film was a wash out. I'm not much into Rajni films but I saw half of 'Annamalai' last week. I predicted the story after just 5 minutes and were there any hummable songs in 'annamalai'?.
Marilyn Manson in a tamil film!! will rajni sing along dressed as satan & gothic make up dripping blood? Can Chennai handle the devil cult worshipping Manson?

Yes. There are 2 to 3 songs. I rank "Oru PeNpuRa" by KJ as the best. "Thanga magan" by KJ has a good prelude and the tune is not all that bad . IT is enjoyable. Another ordinary melody is "Annamalai annamalai" by SPB. the last song resembles a lot of old IR songs.
But the "Aalolankili thOppiley" of Siraichaalai resembles this song !! ( Fearing that somebody will come and bash me.. mma)

this thread reminds me of the political meetings where small time speakers hold the stage till the guest speaker/ leader comes to the avenue. they sort of try to keep the public's interest on. This thread is attempting to do something like that holding us as we wait for the release of padaiyappa songs!

I think all the songs in Padayappa are simply superb. In fact, Rahman`s original standard is clearly seen in these songs. Though ,I didn`t enjoy the film that much, except for the excellent acting of Ramya Krishnan, I really enjoyed all the songs. After Puthiyamugam , Roja & Thiruda Thiruda , the songs in Padayappa attracted me very much. All the songs are rhythmatic & melodious. I will rate these songs in the best of Rahman
