  surprised no mention has been made so far of ARR's 1947- Earth. simply brilliant work. he's extracted the best out of sukhwinder singh, there's a great haunting number, hariharan's dulcet voice, terrific theme music and a lovely ditty. get hold of it, and get hooked.

  Fully agree with Cram. Sukhwindher's voice sounds really good esp. in Ruth aagaye re. Just bought Taal and 1947. Really impressed with the latter.

  Was listening to a nice song from 'thaalam' album
  sung by Sujatha,Anuradha Sriram,Sreeni and Sriram.
  ARR has done a great job. But Vairamuthu has written some really funny lyrics...for eg

  The Return of Thief of Baghdad - Chiranjeevi & AR Rahman in English film

  After establishing himself as a megastar in Telugu, Chiranjeevi is all set to act in an English
  film being produced by Non-Resident Indians. The Return of Thief of Baghdad has been
  launched at a simple ceremony in Chennai. Produced under Indusin Corporation, the film is
  directed by noted anthropologist Duchen Gersi.
  
  
  
  This is a debut film for the anthropologist who made several documentaries earlier. While
  the music is composed by A R Rahman, cinematography is handled by Richard H Klien of King
  Kong and Star Trek fame. Special effects for the film are being provided by Penta Four.
  
  Speaking about the project, Chiranjeevi said: “With Pratibandh, I was exposed to the Hindi
  film industry. I do my level best to put in all efforts to give a good performance in the film. I
  am particularly glad that I am getting an opportunity to work with all- time greats like Omar
  Shariff.” Ramesh, Sundara Swamy and Ganesh are the producers.

  the string section of the prelude and pallvi resembled like "Amma entraligatha "song from Mannan. Do they belong to the same raga?

  "Actually, the best way to review of this film would be to write out its lyrics, Vairamuthu certainly hasn`t lost his touch. And
  Rehman`s music is no less...he has this wonderful knack for picking the right voice, unlike Ilayaraja who even at his best, repeated
  voices. Nityashree`s rendering of Sowkiyamaa (which has saxophone by Kadri) is interesting for her voice rather than the music
  had the lyrics. Then there is M S Vishwanathan singing Alala Kanda along with Hariharan, and Shankar Mahadevan`s (who sang
  that awful song, Come on India) rendering of Varaaha Nadikarayoram. Oh just buy yourself an audio of the film if you can`t

  People accepted (had to accept) Udit for rajnikant and shAhul for satyaraj. No wonder our reviewers say arr has this "wonderful" (!!!) knack of picking the right voice.

  Rahman does it again
  
  Chalk up another feather in A R
  Rahman's cap. Earlier, he had scored
  the music for Rajiv Menon's debut
  film Minsaara Kanavugal (the Arvind
  Swamy-Prabhu Deva-Kajol film
  later dubbed in Hindi as Sapnay), and
  the songs became chartbusters.
  
  Now he's gone and done it again, for Rajiv Menon's
  under-production film, Kandukonden Kandukonden,
  which has a mega-star cast comprising Mammootty,
  Aishwarya Rai, Tabu, Abbas and Ajit.
  
  For the film, which revolves around a traditional
  Chettinad household, Rahman has gone classical with a
  vengeance, and the songs have a marked Carnatic flavour
  -- this, from the composer whose forte supposedly is
  techno. And -- wouldn't you have guessed! -- the audio
  rights have just been sold for a whopping Rs 2.2 crore, a
  figure that overshadows even the massive amounts paid
  for the rights of another recent Rahman blockbuster, the
  Rajnikanth-starrer Padayappa.

  I bought 1947 - Earth CD this week end only to curse myself later for having spent $11 on that. In the name of melody , monotony is being served to you and all you end up with is just a virtual hang over feeling of Taal. Except one or two songs, all others are composed with same tempo with little or no variation in effect. And to add to the misery, Sukhwinder singh sounds extremely monotonous with the same kind of expressions. I would prefer to listen DTPH (over and over) rather than 1947-wreath!
