Folks,
All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
I had been to ARR's Live concert in Long Island, NY. Apart from 2 or 3 songs out of a total of around 25 to 30 songs all the Music was DEFINETLY played from tracks. ARR had hired musicians locally (ie., in the US) to make such a drama or what???.
Its totally a pity to see a established MD to trick and fool people with track music played in live shows. He should have tried to bring the real live music from his troop whether it comes out good or bad.
I saw most of the foreign musicians idle most of the time and the good part about it is that they did not pretend to play music as opposed to their Indian counterparts who were pretending all thro the show.
Any more obervations are welcome.

Tamil Music Fan,
Thanks for the excellent narration of LA programme.Observed that Chithra was missing in the program.Any reason for that? Was she dropped by ARR or is thatshe did not participate on her own because of other schedules ?

Karthik: Chithra performed with KJY at Washington, D.C. on the next day and had to miss the L.A. show.

Whereever you are now, your report was excellent.
My relatives in US were there and praised it. It didn't mean much to me. Two weeks before I saw the Same concert as a two day program in DD2 as "A WEEKEND WITH A.R.REHMAN in LA". You explained it as if you were the organiser.
I do not agree with the creator of this thread because, I could really feel the difference in almost all the song from that of the original that I have been hearing from cassettes and CDs.
A well organised show.
I learnt from my relatives that the hindi audiance shouted a lot and did not allow AR to sing more tamil songs and thats why he finished of with some Hindi songs at the end.

Hi,
I also watched the LA program of ARR's. They have released the DVD's here. It was certainly a treat to watch. Of course, most of the announcements and talking was cut off. And it would have been great if ARR had talked to the audience and stuff like that instead of sitting behind the keyboards. He barely came down on the stage, unlike the Malaysia program where he was in the front. But you should have heard the applause when he came down to sing the 'Elelo' bit in Chinna Chinna Aasai. Great. Shankar Mahadevan was the best in male performers because he gave a great performance without seeming like a goof, something Sukwinder Singh proved to be. Of the females, Sadhana Sargam was impressive. She looked as though she was enjoying the whole thing. 'Rang de' was very good. The best part about her was that she was smiling and moving her head around and not just singing off staring at the book. That was good. It made the songs seem better too. I was suprised by her rendition of 'Snehithane'. She didn't seem at all nervous when she sang it and she gave it the same involved performance that "Rang de" got. She could have come to acting. Sukwinder was the only sore note in the whole thing for me. The unplugged was very nice, especially when SPB said music had no language and started to sing 'Anjali' in telugu. Sujatha was good too, but she did look tired. Wasn't smiling as much as she did in the Malaysia or Dubai shows.
Only other thing missing was Chithra:-))

Common Friend and Vijay,
If you look at the topic clearly, you will note that the thread was started in September, 2000, regarding ARR's New York concert. Which many said was faked.
Since then, somebody renewed the thread, to talk about the LA concert, where apparently the same mistakes were not repeated.

Peter Pan: It was just because the whole concert came in DD Metro two weeks back.
