  p.susheela is the most versitle singer of south,I have a paper cutting from an old malayalam filim magazine "chithrarama",in that magazine s.janaki said that she has an ambition to sing like p.susheela.Even s.janaki has an opinion like this,then you guys please use your brain and decide who is the best

  First of all i made no comparison of either, so fail to understand what pricked u.
  My tastes are decided by me, not by anyone else.... as simple as that. I might like singer X, but that doesnt mean i have to concur with his/her views.
  
  If we go by ur way, we end up in a diff loop. I dont know what SJ has said about PS.
  Diff people think differently....... SPBs fav is SJ (in south). Illayaraja always preffered SJ.
  If we have to use ur kind of analysis then we first need to find out who among these has a "better musical brain". Now u may be able to do all this, but certainly not me.

  At least i use a consistent label. Stop posting under so many different avtars. Dont give me this crap that u have worked with these people(I would expect atleast a certain level of maturity from u even if u had the chance to ever associate with these talented people). And from ur cribbings it is very clear what degree of musical inclination u have. And why cant ur peanut brain understand that i never compared these singers (I did say explicitly that i never compared these singers). I feel silly even replying to u. And I NEVER LIED. I dont know what PS means to IR but IT IS A FACT that SJ was his preferrred singer. And SPB's interview appeared in TV (i think in Pothikai... cant remember exactly).
  I know quite a few of these people personally, so i dont need a duplicate middleman/woman to contact them

  Yes, indeed, there is. Instead of getting into the "who is better" sort-of debates, it is interesting to examine the similarity in their voices. One more aspect common to both the singers is their ability to sing very difficult classical songs with great ease.
  
  Aside - A few months ago, a lady named Meera had posted a link to a fantabulous Kannada song by SJ. The song is "Shiva shiva ennada naalige". Listening to this song tells you what the words "vibrance", "exhilaration" truly mean. SJs fervour-filled rendition adorns this complex composition by L Vaidyanathan and takes it to the heights of glory! She sings all those complex passages in the song with unmatched verve and simply, simply takes the listener into a realm of sheer joy. The opening aalaaps itself seem like insurmountable peaks.
  
  And I am told that this song sank without a trace! This is probably THE toughest semiclassical song I have ever ever heard. I am sure S Janaki would herself consider this to be one of the greatest achievments in her whole singing career.

  Now, AVR, it is a real misfortune that the Telgu and Kannada extraordinary performances by SJ are completely unknown. Shiva shiva might be a great song, but leaving technicalities aside, there are some extraordinary classical/religious/emotional renditions by SJ that are somewhat close to SPBSubramanyam performances of such spiritual whirlwinds. Such classical based thunderstorms were mostly composed by the otherwise very ordinary composer like Satyam. God knows what inspires him to such sublimity at times.
  
  So much control with so much sublime emotions, and such precise utterances are truly inordinary.
  After hearing Kannada songs extensively, one can unearth at least some of such renditions.

  one of the greatest songs ever recorded was the song ' singara velane' from the film 'konjum salangai' the great maestro tested all singers of south india to sing it and the person who got it perfect was s.janaki and it is still on record as one of the highest selling number in india. (p. susheela has voice control like lata the great and s. janaki will let her voice to anything wanted by the music directors as a profession and passion..it may not be her heart and soul that she has put in them just as asha had served.) lata and asha were world diplomats. s. janaki and p. susheela were south indian entertainers. they moddled and idolised lata, so where competetion is concerned both sj and ps have given their best to keep the south enthralled.ive had the good fortune of listening to film and non filmi song from the 40's to 2004.
  THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER LATA ASHA JANAKI OR SUSHEELA. SOME OTHERS HAVE BEEN GREAT TOO BUT MAYBE TO A LESSER DEGREE LIKE vani jairam lr easwari jikki ms rajeshwari p.leela dk pattamal ml vasantakumari ts bagavathi geeta dutt noor jehan. the lesser ones begining with chitra alka sadhna harini and anuradha anupama shailaja and others..old and new.
  the fact remains lata set the revolution and break through in sweetness &light classicals asha set the rock and roll and all india absorbed the scenario.
  SO, PLEASE DONT INSULT THE GREATNESS OF S. JANAKI AND P. SUSHEELA..APPRECIATE THEIR GREATNESS.
  EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY THEY SAY IN ENGLISH.. BUT OUR GREAT LADIES HAVE HAD THEIR DAYS OF PROMINANCE. P.SUSHEELA CAME TO THE FOREFRONT OF PLAYBACK IN THE 60'S ALTHOUGH SHE FIRST SANG IN 1952 SHE REIGNED WITH EASWARI TILL THE EARLY 70'S MS WISWANATHAN BROUGHT IN VANI JAIRAM AND THE DOMINACE STARTED TO SHIFT. MEANWHILE MSV KV MAHADEVAN TG LINGAPPA GK VENKATESH AND OTHERS STARTED TG ALSO REINTRODUCE S. JANAKI INTO THE FOREFRONT. WITH THE QUESTION RAISED BY LR EASWARI ON ILLAYARAJA'S REQUEST TO SING IN THE LATE 70'S AS A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY S. JANAKI RENDERED HIS SONGS AND SHE SHOT TO FAME..A SECOND COMING FOR S.J. AND SHE CERTAINLY DISPLACED P. SUSHEELA AND OTHERS TO THE BACKGROUND! SO, SJ's REIGN BEGAN BY STORM!
