NEWS from Times of India
"The chocolate-faced hero, Aamir Khan, who swept people off their feet with his Aati Kya Khandala is going to do it once again.
Yes, he's going to regale his fans, and this time for his home production Lagaan, which will be directed by Ashutosh Govarikar. Aamir will be swaying to music director, Anu Malik's tunes. It's been a long time since we saw some really entertaining film by this QSQT hero, especially after the movie, Mela, which flopped."
I heard Rahman is the MD for Lagaan, but where did Anu malik came from.

An interesting article about ARR from screen magazine at http://www.screenindia.com/music.htm.
Now I seem to agree with most of being writtern there, I see certain bias in the writing.
He has questioned about the origin of chaiya chaiya, which was very much cleared in the arrahman home page maintained by satish
subramanian.
He has questioned lot of his songs being overworked from other old songs. Though I agree with it to some extent, Im just wondering, if this macroscopic research being done on other MDS work, say R.D. Burman, Sankar jaikishen and others, what will be the conclusion one should arrive at?.
Apart from some obivious jokes like Dilwanye duniya se leyagan being an all-original album, and nadeem describing ARR music as municipal chorus singing and describing bappi lahari and nadeem-shravan as the great music force, it is still a good article.

raju,
Though I dont remember the URL for satish site on ARR home page, there they have given the original sufi song chaiya chaiya and other derived songs from them. From that it is safe to say that, it is the lyricist who borrowed the line chaiya chaiya from the song, not AR Rahman. Infact AR Rahman version is completely different. Even the sukvindar singh who suggested this song, only borrowed the line chaiya chaiya to fit in to the tune, ARR created. The problem was when ARR gave the interview in Rediff, he just mentioned that it is a great sufi song, which it is, but no way connected to the dil se song apart from the wordings chaiya chaiya. If any one has the satish subramanian site, please give the URL.
Thanks
e.hari

I have had my share of battles on ARR vs. IR. I pride that I share the intellect of like minded people in a discussion forum while analysing the relative merits and demerits of these composers and their compositions. But my blood boils when either of these MDs are compared to any of the Bollywood MDs of the past 20 years. The piece of CR*P turned out by these losers in the name of film music is a travesty. The curse is that most 'reviewers' and 'reporters' of these Bollywood dependent magazines are 'ignoramus personified' when it comes to even the basics of music. Yeah! Yeah! Just the first line of Mukkala Mukkabla sounds like Pyaar Huaa Ikraar Huaa. Do you want me to start listing out all the 'originals' for the current (and that includes the last 20 years) Hindi Hits, Not so Hits, and plain losers? Don't make me go there!
Quote- "Jatin-Lalit could not fathom why an all-hit, original and melodious score like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge lost the award to Rangeela". Because, You idiots, 1) Ruk jaa Oh dil deewaanEy is a copy of 'bachnaa ai haseenO, lO mei aagayaa' 2) TujhE dEkhaa thO yE jaanaa sanam is as original as 'mOr saadham' and the joke is 3) hOgaya hai thujkO thO is a copy of……..drum roll……thujE dEkHaa thO ye and didi tEraa dEwar divaanaa. Now does Rajiv know this? NO! His only claim to fame is some basic composition skills.
My request to forumers - we can argue endlessly about ARR vs. IR. But if somebody dare compare these gifted talents with the gundaas of bollywood, spare no brickbats!

folks,
one has to take pride that ARR has done something which no indian music director has done so far. I hope/know that he will maintain that position for years to come.

Well said rajaG!
I think anyone who can appreciate music know that IR & ARR are the best in India.
Like u mentioned, the Hindi film songs & scores are just crap for the past 20 yrs or so. I think its far more than 20 yrs. Worst still, the music arrangers(pun intended!) responsible for this just don't seem to get anywhere & they don't even realise it. I wonder how long their songs stand in people's minds(ie. if the ppl who listen to it have a mind!!). Isn't these amazing. Its like their skin is so thick. Its seems all of Hindi film musicians are Deva! No feelings,no talents,no minds & just don't care.
Amazing ludicrousy.

Don't compare Deva by comparing him to HFM directors !
I was listening to KNPH - biggest hit in recent times - what trash - absolute drivel.
