Are Yaar, isnt there alot of difference btwn saying "I dont listen to his music" and "i have not heard his music"?
And why shud ARR say he listens to something when he doesnt? Besides it's quite obvious tat ARR's style is different from IR's.
In tat interview I quoted earlier (this year's Ponggal interview on Sun Tv wit Pepsi Uma), ARR was asked wat other Tamil songs he liked and he gave tat reply. Tho I did not hear him mention any particular song, Sun TV played Amma Endrazhaikkatha song from Mannan. Which was pretty annoying, bcos it was an ARR interview and we were listening to learn more abt ARR.
Another significant event was when ARR invited MSV to sing for him.

Sabs:
Yes, I can understand your feelings...I too get annoyed when some young cricketer does not mention Sachin in his interview....but you need to change your idea atleast now when there are many instances quoted here where ARR has given credit to his seniors.
The interview what WN has mentioned here, I also saw it. Felt the same as she had felt. I also remember ARR saying that he like "Injee iduppazhagi" song...
Only after that interview I went on quoting in this forum that the song is actually inspired from a hindi song "yeh dil deewana hai" and SPB mentioned that in one interview....
So sabs...I think you need to give ARR his benefit of doubt.

Sandai mandai odaytuhu - my intention was to, hehehe, bring peace between the fans of ARR and IR. If ARR said whatever Sabs feels he said, fine, forget it. He is very clear in his stand in this interview. Dont need to reproduce all that he said, but if u listen to the set of statements he makes abt IR, u can easily say he is genuine there.
The forum's reaction is something like, if he really said someone good, pick an instance where he said something wrong and discuss.
I want the petty fights between ARR fans and IR fans to go off because both sections are missing out on some really cool songs due to pre-conceived notions.

An old post from the archives by a Murali Sankar:
ARR on IR and Deva:(wayback in time)
"Naan ovvoru interivewvilum solluvaen - enakku pidiththa paadalkalili inji iduppazhagavum Oru pennpurapuravum undunnu. Deva annanukku anju thambigal. Naanum avarukku thambi maadhiri thaan. Aanal naan sollum indha vaarthaiyai mattum yaarum interviewil poda mattaen engiraargal."
There was a mention in kumudham (or vikatan) that Ganagi Amaran congratulated ARR after he won the national award. Infact the mag had also raised a question if IR should have done the same ?"

is Inji iduppazhagi ever one of IR' remotely good compositions? it sounds like a constipated she-goat crying out for tissue paper. and, that is rahman's best of IR' over 4000 songs. is he that crapped up? i mean, what is the goal like? wants to tell that IR also copies? for me, this inji iduppazhagi is one of the worst tunes ever heard on top of that Kamal went to endorse it making his voice stand out like that of a kazhudai.
but, why do u all want rahman to vouch for IR? i just don't get this point in this forum.

This is the height of everything. Man just to show that ARR hates IR you are ready to say that "INji idu" is not a good song. Man I am an ARR fan(I am not an IR fan due to his character else for his musical abilities I am also one) but like and love many a IR songs. That song is a class when you see it in the movie. So rustic and so good. Thats what movie soundtracks are to be like. So matching with the story and script.

Well said, Jana. Maybe ARR shud praise more IR songs, and simply for tat reason, they will all get pronounced as dud tunes in tis forum.
peeps, i have no idea wat ur talking abt.
I once read in the archives somewhere or in one of the threads tat Sotta Sotta from TM was one of the ARR songs IR liked. Is there any truth in tis?

Some months back I was having a long conversation with a mallu guy who has a good grasp of music being someone who plays instruments very well. He started digging tfm since the 90s and a big fan of ARR.
Much as I tried to convince him of IR's breathtaking orchestration, drawing examples from the late 70s and early 80s songs, he wasnt overwhelmingly impressed. I finally asked him what all IR songs he liked. He promptly named Megam Kottatum(Enakul Oruvan), Enna Satham Intha Neram and other IR numbers that sound ARR-ish.
So the point is...in all likelihood you will tend to prefer an MD who satisfies YOUR tastes.

I agree Prabhu.
If ARR had never came into TFM, I for one wud not have been listening to IR's stuff much. In fact TFM wud not have as many fans from so many diff linguistic backgrounds as it has now. IR is not a supplement for ARR or vice-versa.
I thought I shud post here a comment from the ARRYG:
"It is often insecurities about one's own ability to do good work or better work than somebody else that makes people bash work of peers, seniors, and juniors out of envy and jealousy. It takes great confidance to believe in your ability to such an extent that you are no longer insecure about your capcity and potential. ARR has mentioned in his interviews how he has fought these internal forces that drag people down to levels of disgrace. This shows ARR is above most of that and we would do him a lot of justice as fans if we could stand upto his level of thinking. Criticism is different from outright bashing. We need to learn the difference.
Hail ARR!
Dasun"

"Only after that interview I went on quoting in this forum that the song is actually inspired from a hindi song "yeh dil deewana hai" and SPB mentioned that in one interview.... "
Do you mean to say, "Inji idupazhaga" is inspired from "yeh dil deewana hai"?. I think its other way round....???

Hello Karthik:
I made this one a long time before and the thread continued for some two weeks. When the Hindi song came IR was not in the field itself...You can be rest assured that the "Yeh dil deewana hai" really made IR deewana over it.
