Had to bring this up before I forgot. In the movie 'anubavi rAjA anubavi' there is a sequence where Nagesh and Muthuraman write some messages on a kite and fly it for their girl friends grab it and read. They do and sing
mAn endru peNNukkoru pattam koduththAn

The songs from Jeans the lines "Iduppukku melae Bhramma kanchanadi, Kaluthukku Keelae Bramma vallaladi" like this.........This lines were stolen from Malayala Kavithai by VM. KD never steals as CtrlX, CtrlV.

Do you think this is from Kannadasan ?
This is (exact words) taken from Silappathikaaram.

That song is from the movie "Poompuhar" -- Story, dialogues - Mu.Karunanidhi. That song was not by Kannadasan. Even then it is OK to take it from Silappathikaram since it was the original verse written by Ilangovadigal (Author of Silappathikaram)
BTW -- Sorry Nagaraj (and everybody) -- Got a bit emotional.

Sir,
I am in age of 22,I dont know about Kannadasan, but from my childhood I hear vairamuthu's songs,I do think that there is something different in his approach of producing the situation to the fullest extent.his "vaarthai prayogam is outstanding for Mr.vairamuthu.

To negate the thought that KKD would have struggled to pen thangLish kind of songs, we have an example from Niram Maaraadha PookkaL. The song is mudhan mudhalaaga kaadhal duet paada vandhaenae aen kaadhal paingiLiyae nee parandhu pogadhae. It had the "today's trend" of referring to the then popular heartthrobe Jeenathamman. Its really a fun song.

Though i have given a song above, we still can discuss whether KKD would be so adapt in penning tanglish songs like what VM is doing now.

"kaLam ondru, kaalanggaL vevEru,
uraivaaL thuppaakki, oppeedu udhavaadhu"
lines of VM which i'd like to quote on this issue. its the same war field, but its a different time period so you cant compare a sword with a AK-47.
folks, i'd like to throw light on another issue.
Time is the best filter. by now time has filtered all the stupid works of KKD. dont say he has not given any rubbish. at this point of time you see few rubbish works of VM and decide VM is not as good as KKD. any lyricist needs support from MD, DIrector the story and the situations built. KKD's period was a Golden period because there were strong stories and emotions for the situations in which songs occur. today the 75% of situations are 'hero sees heroine for first time and sings' 'heroine sings she is a free bird' 'hero is a college goer and sings with college friends teasing girls' and what would KKD have done at this point of time if he was alive. what did vaalee do in his second half of his life ? you know how big a writer is vaalee, his padagoatti and many of songs will talk about him. he was forced to sakkaravaLLi kezhanggu, mukkablaa, lux paappaa and so on.
VM in his interview once said, even if Kavichakravarthi kamban was to write lyrics to movies, the situations would force kamban to write,
"raaman kadaindhaan paarkkadalai,
seedhai koriththaaL vErkkadalai "
see, its true.
you may feel like killing me if i say VM is a better lyric writer than KKD. yes i will say. at this moment many would have lost memories of 'take it easy' but 'ennavaLE adi ennavaLE' wud remain
'paalakkaattu machchaanukku' has gone 'en mEl vizhundha' lives
songs of sindhu bairavi, mudhal mariyaadhai, punnagai mannan, roja, uyirE, bombay all will live forever just like the best of KKD alone are surviving for us.
take it singing nature, philosophy, love, giving scientific facts, modernity, innovation, variety i'll say VM is better than KKD.
and to raji...
the part you said was originally from a japanese hykoo, and this was said by VM in the audio release of the same movie.
25 or 50 years from now,
folks in TFM page would be saying this.
because its a human tendency to acknowledge one after his lifetime.
so better stop comparing,legends.
sorry if i am harsh.

Nandini..VM is a great lyricist..What he is missing vis-a-vis is the philosophical depth in his songs..He probably can equal the emotional depth..VM is popular now ..he was very popular during my teens ..I liked/like his lyrics..but KKD I think is in a different class..Just my humble opinion. (See the KVM thread for some details)

sorry kiru,
mine was a firm decision, and not a humble opinion. right from "kanavu kaanum vaazhkkai yaavum" to "thala keezhaa porakkiraan" VM has proved better philosophical writings than KKD.
if you want i can list out all the philosophies of both and compare contrast them. but i am against comparing them, because I love them.

Nandini..what decision ? you also have an opinion maybe not a humble one, as you say, :). Fine, if we all just expressed our opinions, it does not add value to this forum. You really want to share your perspective on the works of your fav lyricist, MD or singer. Thats the idea behind having a forum like this. So go ahead and list the philosophical verses of VM. This way people can appreciate not just their favorites but others as well. Again, an humble opinion ..I do believe in 'humility is a virtue' :)

it happens to me often.

No problem..Nandini. Are you going to publish your research ? In the KVM thread, Manisegaran, is doing a great job in chronicling KVM's work and life. Looks like overseas tamils do have a better appreciation for tamil than mainland tamils!!! (you from M'sia right ?)
Anyways, can you elaborate on kanavu kaanum ? Whats the deal with the boat ? It sounds very interesting but how is it semantically connected with kalaindhu pOgum kOlangal ? Something to do with the character in the movie ?
