Gee guys,
"Who will succeed Illayaraja?" is the question I have tried to address.
To find an answer I have given my critical analysis of one factor that
appears to have challenged the Maestro's dominance in the Tamil Film
Music. The irony, as you will see, is that Raja himself was responsible
for it! (I can't keep the suspence until the climax, so my friends don't
watch movies which I have seen).

What film music is about is an audio(involves lot of editing).Creatitivity has no limits.Hence anyone who starts understanding rudiments of music can start "Manufacturing audio" with the advent of todays technology.
I personally have ideas as composer of american music(jazz& blues),I have written giant music pieces....i'm not boasting.I'm an american and i live in florida.I was attracted towards Indian music, saint thiagarajas music moved me a lot and i came in 1995 to madras to study carnatic singing. At this juncture i started hearing Indian film music of naushad, burman viswakanthan and ramamuthi and now i'm stilling hearing A.Rahmans audio too and find the difference is the technology.I love rahmans mixing styles and recording handling techniques and he is used to studio for a bunch of years.
Maybe its the human tendency to hear love and intake the final product. If so then all the composers i mentioned above are equal.I have understood the taste of native tamil lingiusts and even i feel i could succeed in giving you all a good tamil audio song library which you could feel may be good enough.
An ordinary listener looks at the final product and completion. In that sense if thats film music is all about rahmaan, naushad, burman, viswakanthan, rmamuti are all perfect audio makers and all are comparitively equal. As a composer i would Consider a recording done live without any editing ,a perfect piece. If so then all composers are uncomparably distant from Illayaraja. Our country men had failed to recogonize his talents.Had he born in our country he would have been caught in myths and fantasies and would have been considered a music incarnation with endowed flesh.
I hardly understand if bach, lindl or Mozart write symphonies in 9 years this man writes in hours.I was stupified at this talent.I bet there is anyone born till now nor would be born in days to come in future.Writting is the highest skill that a composer could achieve. The royal philharmonic symphony ,which is not released for unknown reasons was ritten in hours. He lacks exposure is what i feel he is not popular because its seems he dislikes it.Hence its not the output that is to be seen ,its the music skills is the factor which is to be considered while comparing two composers.I know there are more fans in India but not the ones who incorporate music.Indians go for white collared jobs and the social and economic pressures piled have stopped many composers at budding level whereas in our country every one out of 10 citizens play a piano.
Somebody wrote at the top about electronic music.I know very well the electronic music was inroduced in Indian film music in late 60's and not by Rahman.Illayaraja used syhthesizers to give perfect songs in the late 70's and 80's and its rahmann who toally used electronics in his attempts.I know illayaraja has studios which are equipped 25 times better than rahmanns studio. Its not a fact that illayarja could not use technologies like rahmann.Illayaraja is a king in using elctronic music but he doesnt want them to be used in his pieces because....maybe,from his point of thinking it may be childish to him...moreover,he had made a lot of writtigs and he may may not even wish to satisfy the "music illiterates" in india(i regret if this term would trouble anyone). All he wants is keep on distributuing notations to players writting music like an essay....YAY......this conversation page was great but could easily depict the music illiteracy in indians....you are all audio lovers but i only admire illayaraja for composing and pandit ravishanker for instrument palying.Illayarja had incorporated the beatles songs in his songs but thst an inspiration and not like the one like cutting and pasting rhythms from demos available from softwares which music engineers produce....I learn alot from this conversation and i'm happy...........

Steven in my opinion is a genuine musician! Look at that brand new perspective he has brought here. Who has talked about wrtiting skills, avatar, electroni music in this forum thus far, in such a precise manner as this gentleman. Steven, please let us hear more on the usage of electronic instruments. I always felt that IR was one of the finest users of the early generation of electronic instments. Amazing sounds and ideas for those! The others that have excelled are Erasure and Depeche Mode. Of later brand of sophisticated electron sounds has come from Andromeda Project' versions of James Bond Themes!!! Amazing.

I am very much glad to share my opinions regarding this question. Hope i may not such a great and sound personality to comment about the music legend. Really i feel very comfort while hearing a lively songs composed by Raja. Even many times i forgot to do my routines while hearing Rajas music. Really no one can replace Rajas Place even after the centuray. But i don't know why many segments of people are not given there attitudes to him, its really pathetic. Itsmy personal opinion.
Thaks given me this oportunity to share my feelings about a great legend
Thanks
