Dude Unmai, the only reason I started a discussion (or arguement) with u is cos u said that ur an IR fan, and that U HAVE BEEN PLAYING KEYBOARD FOR THE LAST 9 YEARS. I thought i might learn something abt IR songs from u. Otherwise I wudnt have botherd u. I told u why I like ARR or IR, and i gave u the reasons for that, like that Ooh la la song, or poove sem poove example. I thought u wud do the same too. But so far I didnt see a single thing on IRs music from u (and that dude Teja thinks ur a doing a fine job analysing IRs songs, did I miss something anywhere?). Saying that a particular song is good is not analysis. Look at some old postings by swamiji or srikanth for what is analysis.
Instead u go about thrashing others with ur half formed opinions like "song-good-mono radio" "villager-india-not botherd abt scale change" crap and like.
Infact, saying that an MD doesnt know/keep in mind a scale changing happening in his song and that is just a coincidence could be one of the most stupid statement I might have come across, that too from a person who has been playing key board for the last 9 years. Any MD wud know if something like that happens in his song. besides ur posts seems like u think changing a scale has got to do with mixing. Look who is talking!
And on top of that u throw in statements like KM title song is from an European tune, and that the instrument is changed, and that u listend to it for 4 times just to check its originality. If u found out the original. please let us know. so we can listen to it too. (Now what is this counting hte number of times u listen to a song?)
And u run away saying that I am not a human being and not worthy of reply when I ask u abt the KM song. Can u do us a favor? Please do dignify us lesser mortals like Kaumudi and myself with more of ur (crappy) replies.

dude unmai,
'I am kind of very picky in choosing what to listen. Oflate not even single ARR song has impressed me. I don't know why i don't like his songs!! I came here to express my thoughts.. But i think it is a wrong place to look for such an answer!! It's like searching for god in periyar house!!! 99% are biased!!! '....
you cannot expect a favourable reply from a thread when you yourself are biased... Every music fan knows that IR is great and they also know that ARR is good too... A good music fan doesnt compare between the two, rather he takes the best out of the two... u seem to take the best of IR and the bad part of ARR and compare it... If u would like to argue your point, prove your point rather than telling that u listened to roja 20 times and pudhiya mugam 15 times... I am not defending any ARR fan in this thread becos he has not been doing his best recently... but some of the IR fans in this thread (not all of them) have criticised ARR recent albums as if IR has had success with all his albums in the last 2 years... As I read through all the discussions in this forum, you have turned yourself from being a music fan (as u have mentioned earlier) to a hard core anti-ARR guy. Your statement that you used to like ARR once seems to be a more like a sympathetic way of selling your points.... Everyone can list down how many songs they listened in the last week... I have a very good collection of IR's music till 1993... After that I have merely a handful of his songs... I wont say that he is on the decline nor do I debate with IR or ARR fans.... Again try to prove your point with valid points rather that saying 'I do not expect any answer from anybody. Plz. dont respond to this post as i know it is certainly going to be biased.'...

Why is everyone offended just because one person feels that he is not listening to the recent songs of any music director. In the last posting you say that you have only a few songs of IR since 1993. While I have almost all of IR's albums since 1993. Your not hearing IR's songs since 1993 has no impact on my liking them or do they diminsh IR. Why does everyone have to accept someone's opinion of some music director being good and the other not so - or subject to classless aspersions on one another.

K, 100% valid point.... but don't expect any answer - because the *trend* here is, if someone says that he likes (new) IR songs - then that person is biased, not honest blah blah.... well, at the same time, you know i feel, its good to say that "i listened to KAASI, AZHAGI", but there is no need to say that "i DID NOT listen to a, b, c, d"..... all IMHO :-)

K, who cares if Unmai listens to ARR or IR? But I don want advices like "so and so MD doesn not know that some scales are changed in his song, its only a coincidence" or judging songs by his logic of "mono-radio-good" or "that some tune is an europena tune, only the intrument is changed". He justs brings in his own logic that suits him a t that moment, thats what I understood by his posts.
There's another trend too here. People (not all, but some) pose as if they have great musical tastes by saying they like IR's songs, without knowing why they are great songs. Me starting a discussion with Unmai was to learn some new things abt IRs music, but that never happened, instead ......

"People (not all, but some) pose as if they have great musical tastes by saying they like IR's songs, without knowing why they are great songs."
Is there one single scale to measure one's likings. People like various songs for different reasons. A composer or a person like you, who has deep knowledge of music, may get amazed by musicians magical notations in certain portions. However, the fact is that the success (liking) of any musical album is majoritly decided by common people, who really don't have great knowledge about music. So whether a few learned people like or dislike, great tunes have never forgotten to win the hearts of millions!!

Hello Mr.Sam, i have practiced the 5th symphony in C minor. Don't teach me what is scale? what is Major, Minor? I always talk from a common man's point of view. How many people know pattern for a Major? How many people know atleast the difference between a tone and semitone. How many people know how to determine the key signatures of minor keys? How many people know transpoisition? It is not a place you go around flaunting your musical knowledge. I was just echoing the common man perspective. ARR is not giving any musical therapy. Is he? He is scoring music for commercial movies. Our opinion should reflect that. I listen to music not to identify the beauty of scale changes. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and the other classical composers have given us so many things to learn from. There is practically anything possible if it already exists. Especially italian and french composers are from the top of the draw. The music from KM was inspired from the soundtrack from Amelie. It is not entirely copied.
It sounds very similar. Download it and check yourself. You know what? ARR is a flawless composer in the world(according to you). Are you happy? According to some people ARR is infallible.
Baba kichu kichu, muqabala, chayya chayya, maya chaya, dippu dippu, peta rap, take it policy, mustafa don't worry mustafa, hello doctor, shakalaka baby, hamma hamma, take it policy, no problem no problem, september madham, .. these songs of him has really "soothed" my mind!! Induction of too many english words in songs started increasing at the advent of ARR. I do not get to listen to decent lyrics nowadays thanks to his crusade in "revolutionizing" Tamil music. I honestly believe tamil music has lost its identity because of the above mentioend songs.
Well i know 5 or 6 ARR fans who are here would come out all guns blazing!! Honestly i do not care. I never dragged IR until some people by default assume i am an IR fan. I liked any good tune that i can peacefully listen. 'Jadhi Malli poocharame' is a class tune from Maragatha Mani.
'Thathi Thaa' from the same movie is another great number. I appreciate good songs. I will continue to appreciate good songs. ARR fans enjoy yourself with 1000 of songs he has composed. I listen to english songs, most importantly english movie soundtracks, old hindi songs, all good tamil songs, some malayalam songs of KJY, classical music. I guess most of the people would listen to the above. There would be no dearth of music. Only thing i like in that list is Tamil BGM. I have found a way to record that. If the movie has good BGM and also it has DVD version, i rip the audio of the movie and stored it onto harddrive. I am working on removing the speech and noise part from it and listen to the BGM alone. I have done successfully with Mouna Raagam, 12B, Salangai Oli, Man Vaasanai, Kadalorakavitaigal. Hope i will be able to extract BGM from other good movies.

Dude Unmai, I have never said ARR is a flawless composer, I have only tried to say that he is not as bad as u think. (Infact, if u listen to the bass in "Vaazhkaiyil" u cant stop wondering at its haphazhardness. But I don think I am that qualified to pick up faults). For me music is not just ARR, if u think that he is the only musician I listen to, then ur mistaken.
If ur talkin abt common mans point of view, the songs u mentioned (muqqala etc) very well fit there. As u said he is scoring for commercial movies. And i didnt assume ur a IR fan by default.
Its not my intention to pick up a quarrel with you, but I was only irked by some specific comments from u. I stated the reason for starting a discussion with u, but unfortuantely we went differetn ways. So lets rest our case here, and please do know that I have no hard feelings against u.
Fliflo, (first of all I dont have deep music knowledge). Anybody can like a song wihtout knwoing what goes into it. Even I also do that. But one need not pose as if he has superior tastes just by that.

Sorry, I forgot to give the link. http://www.vikatan.com. Its in the section "Konal Pakkangal" by writer "CHARU NIVEDHITHA"
I feel he is right. Even though Iam a hardcore fan of IR, I still agree what he says. Anybody has his or her own right to decide/speak about his/her likes and dislikes. Eg:I dont like IR's music. I dont like Rajinikanth's acting. I dont like SPB's voice etc..
From: ash (@ 66.25.52.229) on: Thu Aug 22 22:08:17 EDT 2002
Unmai
I do definitely agree with your point(s). Yes Charu is not a musical genius like Yesudas or Subbudu, but his article has appeared in "Vikatan" which is a very popular magazine. I'd like to bring to your notice my earlier posting on this thread "to put a full stop" to this thread. I now again request all the TFM page surfers to put a full stop. I have also send a mail to the webmaster of TFM to take this thread out of TFM page. Anyhow IR is the greatest and there is no doubt about it.
>>>
Those two statements above were made by the same person with different user ID's [(ash (@ 12.5.196.254) & ash (@ 66.25.52.229)]. The second idiot things that Unmai knows better than Yesudas & Subbudu and urging to put a full stop to this thread. I think Unmai is disguised as ash & trying to close this thread by calling himself as genius. This fu[king mental idiot Unmai is desperately trying to prove that IR's craps are the best in the world. Just see what others think of him
<<
To all the guys who are trying to reason with Unmai. Unmai doesn't speak. He spits venom.
Beyond all his paragraphs and paragraphs of writing, we can only see a frustrated IR fan clutching at straws. Let us be magnamious. Let him rattle on and on.
Do you note something interesting: Uthaman --> JJ --> Unmai. When one disappears, the other appears and the one gone, never returns! >>>
So I will urge the admin to delete all postings made by this pathetic pannadai Unmai under different names. Please stay away from this mental disorder person !!!
