  You mentioned 3 dance songs from mannAdhi mannan. In the dance competition song, MGR put in a lot of effort to dance equally with Padmini. Full marks also to the Dance direction and editing for taking pains to show MGR's dancing to be decent. Still, showing MGR as winning the dance competition (Padmini gets confused and falls down) was a bit too much.
  
  The dance song in the tent.. the villain is PSV and not Nambiar.
  
  Saraswathy Sabatham has a Padmini 'thANdavam' dance with only music and swarams and no song. Maragatham movie has a Padmini dance song which starts
  as 'AdinAr nadanam AdinAr'. The old movie 'dasAvathAram' has a Padmini dance 'pAl kadal'. Both these songs are by MLV. The movie senthAmarai has a Padmini ANdAL song, 'mArgazhi thingaL'. As you said, I am sure there are a lot more.

  sk: I returned to the site after a longish break right on time it appears:-) If you are referring to pArkadal alaimElE when you mention 'pAl kadal' this is from raaja desingu and Kamala Laxman danced for it - of course, it does depict the dasaavatharam. Is there an old(er?) dasAvatharam movie? The one I know is from the 70s with Sri Devi, Sri Priya, Seerkaazhi,...

  To continue the list - saraswathi lakshmi paarvathi (TMS, mupperum deviyar), thalaiva thavapputhalvaa varugave (LRE, agathiyar), there's one in bhaktha raavana by Kamala Laxman again (MLV), SJ for Srividya (in her debut?) in mangayar ullam mangaatha selvam.
  
  There have even been a couple in hindi movies - a tillaana by Kamala Laxman in Chori Chori (only jathiswarams by P Leela), another by Lata Mangeshkar in Pardesi (lyrics in hindi, mus: anil biswas).
  
  Bini: Check columbiafilm.com and anytamil.com. They list VCDs and VHS tapes with bharathanatyam songs from films. Raj Video Vision in Chennai also has a couple tapes - selection is not that great and film quality is barely acceptable.

  I am talking about a movie named 'dasAvathAram' that came in the 50's. The 'pAl kadal' song has Padmini dancing. I am not sure about the full details of the lyrics. Let me find out.

  You mentioned about 'varach cholladi' from the movie, pAdhukAppu. Is JJ the dancer in that song? By the way, what do you think of the lyrics in that song by Kannadhasan?

  I remember to have seen 'paadhukaappu' in my school days. It was the Tamil version of some Telugu film 'jalakannika'. Somewhere, Major ( who also acted in the film) has commented that while in 'jalakannika', the heroine was murdered, in 'paadhkaappu', it was the film which got murdered! The film had a meaty role for JJ as against a very light role for Sivaji. JJ was indeed the dancer in 'vara cholladi'. About the lyrics, somewhere in this forum I have read an interesting analysis of how suggestive this song is, very subtly mixing 'deiveegam' of Lord Muruga / VaLLi / Deivanai with lines that unabashedly titillate!
