All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
Drawbacks of a person gives way to others to come in.
Ex : IR drawback is not keeping good relations with others.
With this drawback also He was able to rule about 25 years means it is only the talent.
Now also He can come back and rule if he shows bit
of attention.
Now comming to the drawbacks of ARR ( A wind )
1. Lack of creativity
( already there r talks about his repeated tunes )
2. Late composition.
People will not wait for long time for listerning to new albulms.
They will try other options as He could not give
enough albulms.
There r many possibilities for othere MDS to
enter in the time gap.
Even directors cant wait for too delay in release.
They will wait if they get all hits from him.
If they get 2 / 3 successive flops they will get idea of trying with others.
3. Dependency :
He wants the director to be skilled to extract the good in him.
It is clear that He can give hits only to big directors.
4.Giving preference only to directors.
I cant give clear explanation as I dont know the facts.
There may be others which I may know as I dont know him in person.
Ther is one advantage to him from his second drawback.
He does only some films and any MD can get 4 / 5
films every year.
As the albulms come with delay,It takes time for people to decide his downfall.
If he gets one click again hopes will be there,
For his next few albulms it takes some years.
I am 100 % sure that If ARR could give albulms
fast, He would have been decided by now.

probably big in ARR's dictionary means big in North.
i read a previous interview where the interviewer asks him-just imagine maniratnam's movies without your music-for that ARR says-yes, just imagine(laughs).
i still dont know why MR persists withARR despite all the above 'humble' statements by the 'maestro'.

Yaaro...I read that interview by ARR too..actually if you read his earlier responses....ARR really says that he has to improve etc....and when he said "just imagine"...in context with his earlier replies it means maybe it would have been better....no point in narrowing your focus on a particular response and forming your conclusions. Look at it from the earlier responses and you will understand why he said that...I used to make this mistake too here in this DF...pick on some DFer because he said something...when afterwards reading all the earlier postings I realised that he meant that bcos of what happened earlier !

Normal Man
". So is the case with ARR. So the reinventing the wheel logic of your is not valid..."
Do you mean to say that only "reinventing the wheel" is true creativity ? Then I think every MD should sit down and create his own new/unique instruments and start making music through sounds that we have never heard !

Yaaro,
I am an IR fan.
But If I were a producer with a lot of money.I wud approach only ARR.
And If I were a director creating on someone else's money. I wud still approach ARR.
If I go to a music shop after 1 year. I will search for new releases by ARR.
inspite of all this.I think IR is more knowledgable. In a vote for who is the best MD of 1900-2000 I will vote for IR.
Although on primafacy all the above looks self-contradictory...look closely ... i have written carefully. they r not.
IR= an intelligent student who does not want to study and so gets 75%
ARR: a less capable student, who thro hard work acheives 95%... we all know who suceeds.
c'mon man. I am a customer and IR is doin buisiness... gimme what i like...

Mahabs..Bharath was evaluating also in terms of innovation not just sales..

sorry that i missed this point. do you mean ir is less innovative than arr?
when ir entered the field, folk songs were looked upon as some kind of less decent things. they were on the verge of extinction, in fact.
ir rivived them. in this fact alone he is similar to kerala kalamandalam which revived the art of kathakali. he is simply an institution himself.
if sales alone matter, then his nbw and htni were not that much sold.
he is still innovating. guru and hey ram are examples

sorry
nbw and htni is not a fair comparison with reg to sales... they did not have a movie thrust and also.. tamil people dont have a history for buying "native instrumental composition"
for a first timer I think both did very well!
although, the marks I put werent specifically directed at sales.. I wud just like to say this
1) EVen with only sales as consideration Deva and SAR will not score 96. Why they r still in vogue is because
Selling Price - Cost Price of (deva/sar)= 75% marks or something like that
whereas for IR and ARR its different.. more over all ARR equations have to be divided by time factor also...
so much for math...
