This is not a usual list of 10 best
first i selected some 50 songs which i considered as his best and after listening to it many times i finalised this list and i think the list will be not satisfy many but this is my personal opinion and these songs i consider are some of the best songs in the world
here is the link to my article

Discuss on my selection and add your own list of 10 best. Please those who don't like ARR stay apart and don't make spoil this thread with senseless comparisons, foolish qrguements and entering bad words etc., which normally happens in all the threads posted here

Sriram,
"1) Naalai ulagam (Love Birds) - very noisy and purposeless wandering of the song - painful to ears "
u do realize this is a song abt what the couple would do if the next day the world were to come to an end?and thats wat the noise is at the beginning and between.

Ten brilliant(IMHO) numbers from ARR (which were immensely popular as well...since I've not seen most of these on screen, my opinions are definitely not influenced by picturisation):
1. nenjinlE, nenjinilE (uyirE)
SJ, excellent rhythm, malayaLam interludes (brilliant mix), good tune with fusion orchestration
2. kaNNALanE (Bombay)
KSC, lovely tune with northie style chorus interludes, beautiful guitar accompaniment in the pallavi...this song DOES have feeling...
3. snEhidhanE (alai pAyudhE)
SS doing a sweet job despite language limitations, great pallavi (though saranam sounds like an ad jingle) and excellent orchestration (esp. the piano counter point played only one time in the pallavi)
4. Anjalee anjalee pushpAnjalee (duet)
Effortless SPB, great sax accompaniment and a good melody...a captivating , different song
5. kAdhal sadugudu (alai pAyudhE)
SPBC...dhirana dhirana dhirana...Though ARR is popular for such youthful westernised songs, this one is very different -because this has never bored me:-) Others like chikku bukku rayilu, arabikkadalOram etc were novel to Tamil (areas left over by IR), interesting to listen initially but boring over time... not kAdhal sadugudu, I can listen another 1000 times easily...why, what is the ingradient? I can't say...
6. engE enadhu kavidhai (KKKK)
KSC rendering an IRish number with ARRish rhythm arrangement and good melody...nilA vandhavudan chorus is interesting too
7. putham pudhu bhoomi vENdum (thirudA thirudA)
SPB/KSC one of those rare songs which haunts you...an ARR song without stress on percussion...supported by imaginative lyric...
8.mudhalvanE vanne vanne vanne (mudhalvan)
SJ /SM for some reason this song reminds me of eating a hot masala dosai in a clean & good restaurant with tasty sambar and 4-5 types of chutney....so much elements packaged into one song...even makes you mad why SJ sang so few for ARR...
9. ottakatha kattikkO (Gentleman)
SPB/SJ -very intersting and fresh / different number which according to me began the real ARR era in TFM (and not the boring, hyped Roja which had just chinna chinna asai a little bit different but nothing else fresh and correctly forgotten now)...nice flow, brilliant percussion, excellent interludes...
10. haira haira hairabbA (jeans)
UK/Sujatha...brilliant number by ARR which never bores me...makes you feel like jumping and youthful...very difficult to justify this choice in musical terms, though, which probably sounds ordinary to pundits...and probably that's the charm...that's the success of the composer...

You are all morons discussing abt Top 10 ARR songs. He lags behind Anumalik in audio sales showing ARR should count down his days in music industry. Wat a loser ARR is?

Nisha can't agree with you more.
A.r.rahman is more hype and less talent.
if not for manirathnam the guy will now be licking some adv companies to score for sanitary napkin ads.
