A request has been made in the Tamilnadu's State Legislature to pass laws to prohibit vulgar songs like 'Manmadaraasa' and 'Kalyaanamthaan kattikittu'.
Tamil film songs are vulgar and it is impossible for people to watch these films with their families. Most of the dialogues have double meanings. Will these things be stopped?" asked an MLA from PMK.
Minister Jayakumar replied,
"Vulgarity in songs and film dialogues is a social issue. Law can prevent this problem.
Though you can take legal actions against it, there has to be a change in the mindsets of the people. There are songs like 'Naan ready, neenga readiya? Call phone-a maarivida naan ready, adhila Sim Card-a maarivida neenga readiya?' and 'Kalyaanamthaan kattikittu odi polaama' 'illai pullakutti pethukittu kattikilaama'. People should boycott such songs.
DMK MLA Duraimurgan reminded the Assembly of the 'Manmadaraasa' song.
Jayakumar replied,
"I haven't seen the film yet. You might have. Such songs really hurt our conscience. Taking legal measures can really stop such songs. I'm going to take this to the attention of our CM."

The most vulgar scenes i have seen are from ktullovato ilamai and kathal kondean. The most vulgar songs i hear is songs composed by "painisai thendral" deva.
I have seen more vulgar songs from hindi movies. Is the censor playing with his **** when he sees the vulgar stuff or what?

Is vulgarity such a big problem? What happened to freedom of speech? Can't we express ourselves? Should authorities tell us what to do? Would you pay much attention to an average song than a vulgar song? Vulgarity is the biggest sign of democracy in india, don't make laws against vulgarity! Lot of vulgar people in tamil cinema would be unemployed (especially lyric writers, producers, directors, dance masters (i'm not referring to "Prabhala Devan", group dancers, actress actors etc.)

If they are going to be unemployed they can use their skills in movies which are reserved for this and this alone! ;-)

V,
That is what I said...accidents are something that can happen on live TV. In such cases the television channels can protect themselves by assigning responsiblities (in case of law suits). But, FCC thinks otherwise (i.e. even if u cannot control your environment (that is a risk tv channels take), u are still responsible for what you air. And that is the reason ABC is planning to broadcast this year's oscars with a 5 second delay (just to be on the safe side).

It is highly stupid to bring such laws. Malayala padam neraya matter padam irukku. At the same time, best artistic movies come in malayalam only. Do they have a law over there. Looking at movie itself you will know if it is a vulgar movie or decent movie. If it is a vulgar movie dont go and see it. As simple as that. Cinema is a medium for entertainment. Not a social reform mission.
