did you tell your friend that IR has scored for a Kamal's hindi film ? you did and he came up with this superb conclusion ! That is understandable :-) If he is turning a deaf ear to your persuasions, I donot wonder if he really "heard" both :-) Puthu maappiLaikku is in a major scale with a shift to the corresponding minor scale in sharanam. raamaraanaalum is set in a minor scale from the start. To my knowledge except the 8/8 beat cycle the two songs have have hardly any resemblance.

Thanks MS for your information.I did tell him that apart from the beat cycle nothing resembles. Also he was arguing with me why IR came up with a symphonic music at the end of the Lavani song as its not at all necessary in the movie since it was a love making scene on the screen.Gave him enough information on IR's knowledge about music in the movie and also told him that he would give music for the situation and not the other way round as most MD's do these days. But still he was not ready to accept and finally I decided not to have any more arguments with him as it didn't yield any fruitful result.

I saw Hey Ram. I noticed that in 'Nee partha ...' there are a few seconds of close up shots of the fingers playing on the piano (this is the prelude to the song) and to a common man like me the notes seemed to match the keys being played. Is It it right?.
I was so amazed that somebody could do that, especially after the shots have been taken and still have beautiful flow of music. only the maestro can do this.

Maapilai: Maybe Raja should have used a piece based on Raag Macarena instead of a Wagnerian sound at the end of that Lavani song....I am sure your 'Northie friend' would have enjoyed that! ( No offence meant to our 'Northie friends' in general!) ;)

I meant Kasturiraja as KR in my previous posting. U r right PB and AM are comparably decent but don’t have much stuff, may be very few songs are good!
Maapillai
About ur room mate's comment "ARR's music for all generations", it reminds me an incident, two years ago, we all in our family were watching Oliyum Oliyum, Mustafa Mustafa song was playing, immediately after the song was over, my grandpa asked me "Yennathada avan uththupaar uththupaar-nnu kaththuraan!" we all laughed for long time. J ! Don’t waste ur time explaining about Einsten with the ppl who are happy with Ramar Pillai!

Kamal has resorted to very subtle criticism of Hindutva in Hey Ram. He tried to portray Hindutva as fascists/nazis. When Kamal & Atul Kulkarni are recruited to kill Gandhi, you can see a poster of Hitler in the background. The reason you have a Wagnerian end to the lavani song is bcos Richard Wagner was a Nazi party member. The reason why most of the action takes place in Maharashtra is bcos the founders of RSS / BJP were from Maharashtra - Hegdewar.

Friends,
In fact i was pained about the news that inspite of this Dir. BR going to IR he has agreed to rechurn songs of hindi movies ofn ARR. What a grateful person he is. I am wondering about the self-esteem of these so called directors. If they cud not bear IR making them wait for good music. But they are able to wait for him in the queue for his rotten BGM and then finally settle for his rechurned songs. Isn't it disgusting?. And to think of the fact that it was IR's songs that gave these people's movies a facelift. And they are not at all grateful to him. What a turnaround of these guys?. This BR and Mr. MR. Just b'cos they have a marketeable MD in their hands they shud not think that they cud give any music to the audience. It is time for the real music listeners of TFM to come out and reject these rechurned numbers and shud look out for real good music.

Saw Hey Ram yesterday. I have no word to describe what IR has done to this once in a lifetime movie. The impact of Kamal is aptly enhanced by the excellence of IR in BGM. No songs stands out from the film. "Nee paarththa "..I will never hear another of its kind in the recent future ! I could never realize that the song was gone ! The music had gone with the scenes without standing out from the film ! Rarely on earth are born such music geniuses..

KR gave quite a decent album for Kamal's 'Kathala Kathala'.
It's not KR's fault that Kamal sothapufied the movie and it flopped.

What's Karthik doing these days?
His 2 films, Ullasam and Grahan (Hindi) had very good scores. Sad, the latter hasn't seen the light of the day. He happened to get the RD Burman award for the best new talent in HFM 3 years ago for the above film (though unreleased).
What's stopping him from composing more music?
I guess the guy is sheer unlucky (or worse still: Lazy! and is not approaching anyone.)
Which is real SAD!!!

Neels,
It seems he is deemed quite 'unlucky' as almost all of his movies, some of them lavish projects like 'ullasam' and 'kathala kathala' and 'Alexander', flopped at the box office.
Alexander too had some nice songs.

KR is doing 2 movies currently. One is 'NaaLai' **ing some new faces, (More than 2 years under production., ;-) and the other is 'KaTRathu kaathal aLavu' *ing Aakash and Vindhya. The producers told in a press meeting that they will release the movie on Val'day. :-) That didn't happen. Now, No idea what happened., :-)
