Mani's latest move!: Courtesy: Sify.com, May 22, 2003
India’s highly hyped director Mani Rathnam has finally decided to launch his next film a bilingual in Hindi and Tamil. This film will be made under his home production Madras Talkies and is said to be a quickie.
It will be a multi starrer in Hindi with Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi, Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee. The Tamil version will star R Madhavan, Surya, Shaam, Meera Jasmine and Trisha Krishnan. The main technicians will be Art director Sabu Cyril, Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, and music director A R Rahman. Writer Sujatha will be in charge of the Tamil screenplay and the story is by Mani himself. The Hindi dialogs by Anuraag Kashyap.
It will be a youth film, which will be made in Mani style and aimed at the Cineplex crowds in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Remember that Shaad Ali’s Saathiya which was a remake of the Tamil Alaipayuthey worked wonders at the box-office mainly in metros. Similarly, this heady youthful brat pack film is targeted at the teenyboppers in India and overseas.
One of India’s leading film financier is said to be backing the project and the shooting will start by June end and is scheduled for release by January 2004, provided A R Rahman delivers music on time!
Remember:
Mani Rathnam had initially planned Alaipayuthey without songs and landed up in Rahman's studio and said he wanted songs, 3 months before the shooting commenced (Keeping the commercial format in mind). A R Rahman composed 10 songs for him in 3 months time for Alaipayuthey, which turned out to be great hits of his lifetime. So, I guess ARR will never disappoint Mani Rathnam and Shankar fans. By the way, Boys will be out in June 1st or 2nd week. Mani was greatly impressed when he heard the soundtrack of Boys. He has asked Rahman to compose tunes along the same flavor for this film too. Mani alternatively makes a commercial and art film. This time, it is going to be a complete commercial film.

You are talking abt ARR in early days. Will ARR do a low budget movie now?. IR composed music for ramarajan, rajkiran movies when he was in peak.

>>>Will ARR do a low budget movie now?.
U cannot assume that he will not till a real incidence of that sort happens. ARR always goes for films with value, I mean the dir, story and purpose. If somebody could could convince him with a nice project then why not?

--- Guna - Malaysia
Thenali: AR Rehman has gone overseas. He made his debut in 1992. Jayaraj entered the field in 2000. There is still more time for your wish to come true.

That wont happen in near future. He will concentrate only on High-Budget movie that too movies which will sell abroad. I guess in future there wont be any expectation, which is already reduced now, for ARR in TFM.

Bobby Deol was also considered for the film. Now he is dropped. Great to see Madhavan, Mani Ratnam and A R Rahman again after "Alaipayuthey", "Kannathil Muthamittal".
Vivek Oberoi and Ajay Devgan are good actors. They should do well. The film will click. I am sure. What do u say guys? Great combo, great film, great music.
