I had mentioned very briefly mentioned about TMS's talents (and some deficiencies thereof strictly IMO) in another thread. Obviously, the two kings of TFMs deserve at least a separate thread for discussion, instead of merely being a 'distraction' in some other thread.
My request to the participants is:
Please try to be objective in assessing their qualities. Let us explore difference in background, cultural situation at the time of their prime, acting style of the principal heroes, training etc. Let us not take the easy path of 'mere mudslinging' on the artists or the DF participants. Believe me, if and when I have done it, I have not been proud of it!

Hi Raja:
OK we are again discussing of the aspect of emotions which I had mentioned in my very first response (Plase recollect!).
This is the point I was trying to impress upon in Thyagayaa's kithana's it is emotion added to the lyrics. We cannot term it as Controlled Deleveries is it has an all-together a different meaning. For eg: "Adi raku muthu raku" sung by SPB you will find a controlled delivery because the song was composed in such a fashion ( Where the singer is made to give a full throated delivery) on the SIMILAR lines is "Bhagavaan O Duniya ke rakhvale" by Md.Rafi Saab when you listen to this song you will find the pitch of the song increases step by step attaining a climax in the end where Rafi ends the song at a very High Pitch(WITHOUT A STRAIN) this song was recorded when recording tech was at its infancy so you have no reverbs or echos to boost the voice or to make it sound soft Here you will not find a Controlled Delivery by Rafi Saab his output is from the depth of his vocals. This is what makes one a Great Singer and this is why singers including SPB practice Rafi saab's songs to attain that fine tenderness.
And a pointer I have never said SPB has spoiled any song I am only trying to potrait his intelligence which is a mix of his (Voice talents including mimicry to cover his lack of formal music training)
Shall get back to you soon

I think the comparison of TMS and SPB cannot be paralleled, since while TMS was slowly vanishing (I couldn't find a more polite word) in TFM, SPB was on the rise. In terms of talent, TMS has many advantages over SPB, first being clear pronunciation of tamil words, next being the level of ability to sing carnatic-oriented songs. To quote for example, the song "Paattum naane, bhaavamum naane" in Thiruvilaiyaadal and "Aeri karaiyin maelae".
So, anyday, TMS can never be comparisoned with SPB, while the latter is a great singer too. In fact SPB has given more melodies (in terms of number) than TMS.
