ARR's Earth 1947 is a hybrid version of TAAL.
I bought the CD just for Hariharan's awesome rendering of 'Dheeemi Dheeemi'.
For the tongue-in-cheek critics, Thaaaalam is a dubbed one to catch more ppl. Enjoy TAAL and feel the difference.

This is what Deepa Mehta had to say when asked about ARR and his music scores for Earth
"Whatever I say about his genius will be stating the obvious. He finds the sound for every character in the film. He finds the character's sur. Raag, rhythm, reggae, folk, classical, he's got it on his finger tips. He's so cinema literate. He can discuss Ingmar Bergman's Autumn Sonata and he can talk about Subhash Ghai's Taal.
And, finally, if I ask him for 100 per cent, he gives me 200 in return. Bandi ko aur kya chahiye?"

Jumbalaka in tamil was good, that singer's voice suited better. Alsha Chinai has just spoilt it in Hindi.

Guys,
I had a chance to watch the movie Sangaman and ARR has done good work both in songs and background scores. He has finally come off his age and experience and shown some maturity in his compositions. In particular, I am very impressed by the song 'Margazhi Thingal Allava" where he has used Sindhu Bairavi ragam so effectively and made the singers sing to the right shruthi and emotion. S Janaki excels in this song and so does Unni K.
I wish ARR used a different singer for "Swoukiyyama Kannee". Nithya Shree's rendering is not perfect and makes the listener uncomfortable at many places in the song. She swallows word and sing some words at a faster pace, etc.She has still not adjusted to playback singing, IMO. But ARR's composition of this song is good and his choice of instruments like Sax (kadri Gopalnath) is apt.
Kudos to Sankar Mahadevan and ARR for a nice and different kawalli song "Varahara...'. Totally all the songs are good and sounds original and different from teh usual ARR's style.

Dorai :
I found Nityasri's rendering of soumkyamma quite good. Her pronounications at places are slightly brahminical, but she has rendered the song in an excellent way! She has brought out the nuances of the raagam maand well and her voice suits the song.

REVIEW OF TAKSHAK:
takshak songs are not that bad..
1. Rang De
A pretty good opening song by Asha.. think will used in all trailers.. pretty catchy!!!
2. Khamosh Rat:
a good song well rendered by Roopkumar Rathod.
the best of the album i would say.. a sort of Kanneere type of song.. but with a different BGMs and lead G's
3 Jaan Meri:
the rythm resembles "Then Merku" from Karuthamma.
with an extra chorus and use of variety instruments souds different. Hema needs much more maturity in her voice and tone.
4. Dheem Ta Dare:
sung by a new singer (probably, atleast the first time with ARR) a classical "vocal"- nattuvangam type of song.. not a song anyway..
but decntly made and the south indian audience may like this one.
5. Boondon Se Baatein
this one is good with catchy interludes and rythm. Sujata has done a fabulous job.
6. Toofan Ki Raat
Ok sort of song.. nothing much to talk about.
7. Dholna
a typical sukhwindra singh/ARR song.. for some reason sukhvindra singh has been singing similar, hi pitch, slow, heavy beat songs with ARr right from Dilse and make u feel that u dont really get the difference in these type of songs, be it Dilse, or Taal, or 1947 or Takshak..
sounds more familiar and near 1947 and taal sukhvindra song.
SS is being over used by ARR...
8 Jumblika:
a remix of Jumbalaka song from en swasa katre..
beleive me ESK song was really fabulous..
Alisha and Shankar mahadevan have spoilt the whole song.. alisha gets on ur nerves when u hear this..
done know why ARR needs to take such an experiment of spoiling a good song, with atrocious changes in music and instruments, using a more attrocious singer..
worth the buy for Kamosh Raat and Bhoonden se Baten !!!!
i just happened to buy the casette for $2.5, and not the CD for $13.. i feel lucky!!!!
(the review above is just my humble opinion.)
(it may vary from person to person)

I bought the CD of Thakshak and I feel it was totally worth it. I think that it is one of ARRs best.
