Hari, you are right about this hype thing. Besides hype along doesn't make something successful. For example the movie Uyire and its Hindi version Dil Se was hyped more than any movie, but it flopped big time. Kadaluku Mariadhai was wasn't hyped at all, and it was a big hit. My point is that hype has nothing to do with success, mabye just for a short period of time in the beginning. It's word of mouth that will contribute to it.
NOV, I am sure you guys will always find ways to insult ARR as long as you have a good imagination and a lot of time on your hands thinking about ARR.

Srinath, have you listened to Uyire or Indira?

Srinath, I forgot to mention Minsara Kanavu (these were all released after Kathalan).

Ram:
NOV's comment was made tongue-in-cheek. You read him completely wrong. And yes, I have listened to Indira. I remember some very catchy tunes ("Thoda Thoda" was one extremely good tune) but noted nothing else spectacular about that album. In fact, I have played "Odakaara Maarimuththu" and "Nila Kaaygirathu" several times on stage (not that there was much to play for a bass guitarist in either song !). I have not listened to Uyirae though. Neither one is a new release of ARR, so I am not sure how appropriate it would be for this thread (as if we make very appropriate posts in the other threads :-)) But perhaps I ought to go ahead and review Uyirae all the same. Sometime this evening perhaps...

Hey ! I like "Vennilave, Vennilave" (inspite of HH's voice, and that's saying a lot !). Yes both "Indira" and "Minsara Kanavu" are good albums by ARR's standards. MK has another song that I like - "Anbenra Mazhayile, Akilangal Ninaiyave". Yeah, sure I can review any of these and point out what I feel is good and what it bad about each song in these albums. Atleast that way I could get to listen to ARR's music !

Unni, bhavadharini (& dynasty) fans are never going to like Nitya Sri, never! :-) They will always find her songs as screaming and shouting! Nitya Sri's is too classical that her voice may not suit as a playback for some heroine - But she can do exceptionally well in `general' songs where she doesnt have to necessarily give voice for heroines!
Unni, a genius remains a genius forever. A genius is called so only because he has stood the test of time. IR remains a genius even today, but its just that he doesnt exhibit his genuis-ness in a major way these days. That doesnt make him a "genius No more"!!
Hari/Ram : Hype is necessary today. With satellite TVs and intense-media-competitions, hype has become necessary atleast to get a decent-opening at box office. This is more so in case of hindi films! Despite hypes, its the quality of the product that'd determine its success. One way to get the hype is to use the big-names and music associated with the movies! thats whats being done!

Chandy:
What do Bhavadharini's fans have to do with Nithyasree's horrid voice ! I am a fan of only 3 people in TFM - IR, SPB and SJ. IMO, Nithyasree is TFM's answer to Ila Arun ! In FM, female singers are required to sing in a falsetto. Occasionally, the MD might use a singer to sing in her natural scale. If NS had sung some purely classical song in TFM, I might have understood. But using her to sing "Minsara Kanna" in her natural voice is tantamount to using gimmicks to prop up a poor tune. Maybe the character on screen was supposed to be shouting those lines too - either way, fact remains that NS shouted out certain lines in the song. The main strength of carnatic singers is the depth in their voice - but the same depth can also be disastrous as was obvious in "Minsara Kanna".

Srinath,
Read your excellent review of "Padayappa". But, like Ram, I too think you have chosen the wrong album. Of the new releases of ARR, you could have chosen ESK or KD - atleast, they were much much better than "Padayappa".

I plan to review one more ARR album this week. Select one from the following or suggest a new one -
1. ESK
2. Uyirae
3. Kadhalar Dhinam

I would suggest ESK among the three.

Contrary to popular belief, I have judged ARR only after listening to him :-) Like everybody else, I too get emotional and make outrageous statements every once in a while, that's all ! I lost interest in ARR's music after a while. But like most ARR fans here, I too have hummed his tunes day in and day out once upon a time. For God's sake, the first ever song that I sang on stage was "Kaadhal Rojave" :-) !!! ARR today is not half as good as he was a few years back. Maybe his music'll excite me again - but as far as Padaiappa is concerned, it's still a long way off from doing that !

Is someone forming a srinath fan club here?
Asking him to review ARRs album is like asking Jailalitha to comment on Karunanithis aatchi..guys if you like to bash ARR go ahead but try to be so diplomatic?

And srinath neither ARR nor his fans are concerned about your interest or attraction to his songs....poor ARR he might have committed suicide after listening to you sing (or kill) 'kaadhal rojavae'( I was about to :))

Srinath you are great. ARR is not bad at all, one should encourage all kinds of music and support new and budding geniuses, otherwise we will be made to listen to the same type of sh... ARR is what we need, there were a 1000 composers inclduing IR doing the same film songs, here is this bold guy ARR. I wish him well.
I bet the next act will be to get IR to sing for him. Which is a good thing. It will only take a courageous composer to showcase IR and MSV to all of India. Keep it up ARR. Keep it up Srinath

Vyaas,
No one is pretending to be diplomatic here. I read Srinath's review of "Padayappa" and IMO, it was a very good review and I felt that Srinath should have chosen the right album of ARR to review and not "Padayappa". I don't think there is anything wrong in this and I don't know how you assumed that asking a person to review a good album instead of a mediocre one is like starting a fan club for that person!!!!

I took up Padiappa because it was a Rajni movie ! I expected ARR to make that a big motivation factor and was surprised when everybody, including ARR fans, criticized that album ! That made me curious enough to review it ! But because I wanted to be fair, I promised to review a hit album of ARR too ! And I'll definitely review ESK this weekend ! Vyaas is biting off more than he can chew - I hope he doesn't wait to learn that the hard way !

Srinath,
Now, I can understand why you reviewed "Padayappa". In fact, I too expected a lot from ARR in "Padayappa". Needless to say, it was disappointing. Forget comments from people like Vyaas. But, I must say that some people (like Vyaas) are under the impression that you are a blind ARR basher!!! I am sure you are not one such person and your reviews are very interesting. Expecting your review of ESK.
