Guys:
One song like "Nee Thaan En Desiya" will wash out all the mistakes in this album...It's a very melodious number.

Aditya

I dont know much about ragas, so I wouldn't be able to argue with you about that! :) But I believe you!
Actually, I listened to 'Jothi Neranjave' now and yeah, it sounds different. But I can't get this feeling of familiarity out of my head after hearing the pallavi of "Athisaya Thirumanam".
Also, how about the saranam in "Naathir Thinna"...the part where the female singer goes "Yethetho seithaai yennai varuthi(?)...". That reminds me of some really old (MSV) song too!
I'm not on a fault-finding mission here...am just being curious! :)
I personally think "Naathir thina" & "Athisaya thirumanam" are really good songs.

Just for one crap song ...
producers and ppl can waste the money....

well the best thing for A.R.R to do
is to upgrade his collection of western
and african music ...
maybe he's running out of these collection
god save ...music
or else he can try and do more hindi music
atleast we'll be saved by that ..hopefully yes

Kitcha:
If u found any familiarity, that's not ur problem, it's the problem with the MDs:-). Natai, rishabham is gandharam in abheri and Natai Dhaivatham is Nishadham in abheri. Stricly there's a difference in the way they should sound. However it's possible that a keyboard based composer to make use of the phrases in each of these ragas to sound either way. And it's not a mistake...but a freedom in composition to achieve beauties. So strictly in film music, u needn't do with ragas...they are essentially based on some scale. And so long it sounds good - we should let it go. Naathir thinna, sorry it's not my cup of tea.
PP, it's not fair to think that ARR is about collection of some samples. He is much more than that. And ofcourse in PP movie he couldn't stand upto his talents.

Aditya

The best song I have heared recently is 'Mun Paniya, Mudhal Mazhaya...' from Nandhaa.
Even the most melodious number in Paarthaale Paravasam 'Nee thaan en desiya geetham ' does'nt equal it. ARR may not be running out of stuff. But Parthaale Paravasam is not a typical ARR album. Definetly one of the bad albums by ARR.

Parthale Paravasam...
They sound great! I read, the postings, most of u are itz OK or itz krap ... well like all rahman albums, it takes a while 2 grown on u. But once it does, I'm sure u'll luv it! My favourite Manmatha Masam and Parthale Paravasam. Along with Moonreluthu ...has the egyptian tune goin' like evano oruvan... itz definitely NO duet.. nowhere close to it. Rahman is da only guy who has the gutz to experiment like he does ... and the album .. the CD once it got released in canada. I went to 'bout at least10 stores .. they all were sold out .. they said they sold out within da first 4 hours ... so I guess yes the name sells.
but when u buy a Rahman CD u know ur gettin wot u pay for. But usually rahman gives you more than what you pay for, and ppl expect that all the time. But PP is definitely no disappointment for me! All the songs are great... took one or two listens 2 get da jist of it .. but now itz just gr8!

now it has become customary for tom "D1CK" and harry to comment out on any new arr album that comes out saying it sucks ARR has lost his steam etc...the album goes on to become a big hit....and shows a mlm to all the "SUBBUDU'S SHISHYAS" ...arr has proven beyond the fact that he has understood the pulse of what ppl want to listen to...PERIOD
PP is definitely on the same range as all arr's previous albums..i may not be a great expert in knowing the nuances of the music like raagas..beats etc...but as a listener felt PP ROCKED.....and am damn sure it WILL be the biggest hit of the year..
ENJOY

As a musician myself, I find this album having too much of synth and no melody and a flow in it. A total let down. U have disappointed me Mr.KB. I'm getting back to Apoorva Raagangal, Ninaithaale inikkum, Sindhu Bhairavi, Punnagai Mannan, Puhu Pudhu Arthangal.....

Hi,
Every ARR album released till date has seen these kind of criticisms in the first week of its release.I think even PP is much better than any of the best compositions of Yuvan shankar raja and harris jayraj.
We'll see if you have the same view of the album two weeks down the lane.Stay positive in life

I have usually been amused at the way rehman blends ragas...that is missing in this album. IMHO. But loved "nee than en desiya geetham"...brilliant free flowing piece..."manmatha maasam" is OK good...."azhage sugama" i think is a good "sahana" raga song...well the rest?????

I feel some parts of 'Azhagee Sugamaa' Sound similar to 'Kanavaa illai kaatRaa' song from Ratchagan., Same raaga or something like that ?

Bought the CD for PP. Already listned to it three times. The songs are very groovy. Just love it. It is like what I have felt when I listened to Bombay. Very different and excellent. Kudos to ARR. As usual, he didn't disappoint.

Rahman's music takes some time to sink in. This has been the case with all his cassettes. I remeber the first time i heard Lagaan or Bombay ...i thought it was a mistake that i bought this cassette. But after just one days time i was humming the songs away to glory.Ask Rahman why...he tells that anything familiar will sound good at the first look, but to appreciate anything new it takes some time...simply because that we are not used to seeing or hearing something like that before. Every time a breakthrough happens in any realm of the world it is always met with great Opposition. So i decided not to get carried away by my inital impression and went on to listen to the songs.
The first song Manamada masam
this song is a new style of tune. Ithink ARR just let both Shankar and Nithyasree to sing it on their own and then added the music. Shankar does a great job (no wonder he won the best male singer natinal award). Nithyasree voices has softened a little bit but she has her trademark singing style, which i personally like very much even though quite a few here seemed to think otherwise. Vaalee could have put in some more effort into the lyrics of this song.
The second song "Nee thaan En desiya Geetham"
Who is this Balram..his voice is mesmerising, but nothing compared to the magical voice of Chitra. ARR got the right song, right tune, and the right singers for the song. The lyrics need the instruments to take a backstage and that is what exactly Rahman has done. This song may not have elaborate arrangements and all that, but is easily one of the best songs in the Album. Hope to listen to Balram many moere times though i missed SPBs voice in this song.it would have been just wonderful with SPB singing with Chitra.
The third song "Moonreluthu"
This is just an ordinary tune and the lyrics are not really somethiing appreciable. Harini does a good job, and so does Karthik. But the song sounds too crude to be liked by melody fans like me. Even though the pallavi is not so exciting, the saranam is rendered beautifully and is melodiouds. The lousy lyrics actually mars the song. Vaalee should have put in more effort to bring some good lyrics instead of just fitting right sounding words to the tune.
Fourth song "Azhage sugama" and its other part.
This is THE BEST SONG of the album in my opinion. Easily so because, The music is soothing and melodious. The voices are perfect. The lyrics just touvches your heart and melts you. The other such song that comes to my mind is UYIRE UYIRE VANDHU ENNODU KALANDHUVIDU" from Bombay. Vairamuthu establishes clearly his provess in lyrics writing. This song has the best lyrics in the album! ARR has given the perfect mood to the song and the lyrics.
The fifth song "Azhagiya thirumanam"
This is sure a different type of song. It is so beautifully blended music and tune. Initially the tune sounded a little disjointed but later ist is just perfect. Vaalee establishes that he is definitely good when it comes to simple lyrics especially with pun and in HAASYA kavi (the subtle humour of the poimayum vaaimayidathu kural in the song is beautiful). Sujatha does a wonderful job with Kalyani menon. The two Srirams are also OK. The blending of the two tunes is very interestingly done by ARR and does not sound awkward after four or five listenings.
The sixth song "Nadhir Dhinna"
This is a little different. The song is not as good as it could be i think. The Rashid ali is not very good at tamil pronounciation (but listening to the lyrics like vellaikaran and all that may be that is intentional). Thubara sings ok. The flaw is she is so much trying to get the pitch and tune and forgot about pronounciation and also she sound so nasal. Finally Again Valee does only an average job. The lyrics are rhyming but not something nice to listen to. He is quite capable of better lyrics but i dont know why he didnt put in much effort here too!
The Seventh song "paarthale paravasam"
This is an esciting song, peppy voice, peppy lyrics, peppy music, aiming at the chartbuster list of toptens...REhana et.al., to a great job. Rahman has done some excellent arrangements in this and it is exciting to listen to everytime ...tempting me to get up and dance for it! One of the Good songs. Muthukumar does a real good job as lyricist in this.
The instrumental "LOVE CHECK"
Initally it sounded vague and disjointed. But i tell you sivamani with his drums has come out in flying colours. The fusion of Carnatic from the mridhangam gatam to the drums id just fantastic if you listen carefully. It is a good attempt and needs to be appreciated for sivamani's efforts and provess in handling the drums the way it is done!
OVERALL it is a good ARR album - something new and different from the rest of the music in tfm right now. It has all types of songs, western eastern, peppy, classical, fusion, etc. Lyrics overall is ok but could have been better. Singers do quite a good job. never knew we had so many talented people around without any name till now. It is definitely worth the money. Also i think the songs will sound definitely better as part of the movie rather than as separate entities. This album is definitley better than the two previous ones from ARR (star and thenali). IT JUST NEEDS SOME TIME TO APPRECIATE THEM. Kudos to ARR.
