IR's new albums!

A new Ilayaraja album is a cause for celebration with many among us. Let everyone share in the revelry. Review, discuss or comment on new IR albums.

  guys lets not be too harsh. if u notice, its just Raja trying a few things .
  I think going by what we've seen of Devan so far, and considering who the director is, it will be at best an ok sort of movie. There would have been nothing much in the story for Raaja to actually compose. So considering that it is Arun Pandian's 100th movie, he has gone by his own instincts and just freaked out.
  
  All in a days work!
  
  I also saw 'Ivan' trailer. And as 'Common friend' says the trailer looks like Parthiban's earlier movies like 'Ulle veliye' etc. But i think Parthiban would have tried something new . Let's wait for the movie to release to find out.
  
  Lets keep our fingers crossed and not expect too much! Kaasi and Azhagi were, if u guys remember were pleasant surprises, while 'Devan' after all the hype and most probably because of it is a 'bummer'!

  "Thaalutum Kaatre" from Devan is a recycle of "Malayoram Mayile". Atleast the first few sandhams match verbatim.
  Not sure why Raaja even needs to compose for these films.
  Anyway very disappointing after "Azhagi" rejunevated our hopes

  ..now that I am a dad I know it is fun at times to play with your kids toys :) I am sure YSR grabbed his drum machine from dad's hands and ran away to his room after these songs :)
  Well..I think this is not a great album but much better than many junk we hear these days..I liked 'sexi bomb with those italian lyrics :) (yeah yeah..I am going thru middle age crisis :))

  You guys do not know how to appreciate raja.Come on lah guys.He is try a new kind of music.So we must support him very well.I really do not hear any bad tune in raja Devan music.It is really nice and fresh tunes.All the best raja.If you do not believe try to hear this album music two and three times.You will find out the Greatness in this movie songs.

  SPM..all the recent posts including mine were from IR fans. It is just that we have set high standards for him. We are looking for something like 'oliyilE therivadhu'..the tunes (some old) have a fresh twist to them. The orchestration is also very good..(now nobody can say that they use a chorus like the way IR uses..absolutely fantastic)..but the beats are not new and the keyboard used in place of the real instruments sound really jarring..Maybe IR wanted to do some fun music..and it does sound fun to me. I am even thinking this might be a commercial hit.

  I think IR is not interested in city/youth-based subjects anymore. Thats why his music to Devan, Andan Adimai, etc are not so good compared to Azhagi, Kutti, Kadhal Jathi, Kasi, etc.

  Just Listened to Devan...Sounds pretty much like other "So Called" top notch MDs.....seems like IR trying to make a point that those kinda music isn't too difficult to produce:-)....I personally think itz a decent Album

  Listened to them once, disappointed :-(
  
  Couple of songs are good though... the Duet involving HH and Sujatha, and the Song by IR.
  
  Devan songs aree very nice.You guys try to hear it for two or three times.You will like it.Sure!!!IR is always the best.Musical Genius.Just brilliant.
  
  i was expecting a lot from the songs of Devan and they are pathetic.Hope he comes up well with ivan songs atleast
  
  a vijaykanth film seldom deserves better music.
  
  The duet "Thaalattum Kaatre" has a nice catch tune amd instantly catches the attention .... a nice song. Sure it will be in the charts, if not a chart buster.

  When would you think IRs fan are in ok condition (paavama ilamal)...? 
  
  What were your inital comments abt Alazhki, Kaasi (I am just talking about the latest two albums and not something out of date...will u kindly remind us all..if possible)!

  Thalattum Kaatre by IR (though resembles Malayoram Mayile slighly) is very pleasant to hear!
  
  I don't know what Raaja was thinking when he composed the other songs. Optimistaically thinking, he may be trying to make fun of the current song trends.
  
  I think 'Kanda Kanda pasanga' is an inspiration (lyrics, not the tune) from Andan Swami's Lift Karadhe song!

  I came across a CD with songs from the movie 'aboorva shakthi 369'(ofcourse telugu dubbing). Music is by IR. Does anyone know how the songs are?(All songs are sung by SPB/SJ)

  I have not heard the Tamil version. but here is my opinion on the original version which you can try to map to. Hope it helps.
  
  Raasaleela vaeLa - a good melodious duet. best in the album.
  JaaNavulae nera jaaNavulae - a 60s/70s kind of song sung by Jikki and SPB. A decent one.
  SuramOdhamu – a classical song for dance/song competition given a jazz (?) twist towards the end as the hero can’t think of anything else to sing. People seemed to have liked it while watching the movie as our hero is doing this in Krishna Devaraaya's (?) presence. mmm...above average-nu sollalaam.
  Centurilu kOttae vayassu maadhi – this is a Tamil tune (that i don’t remember now) reused with some improvisations. Some of my friends liked the way the charaNam ends. Its an ok number.
  The other I don’t remember:)

  There's yet another song in Telugu from the same movie. Btw, the movie's name is Aditya 369 and was released in 1991, starring Balakrishna (son of legendary NTR and Mohini) and was directed by Singeetham Sreenivasa Rao.
  
  The songs are :
  1. Centurilu kotte vayasu maadi - Current Trend
  2. Raasaleela Vela - Classical and best of lot. Just listen to the beat which goes tangential to the tune of the song and still gives an edge to the song.
  3. Suramodhamu - Classical and Pop
  4. Chilipi Yatralo - Futuristic!!!!
  5. Janavule - 1960s feel. Sounds similar to Paarijata poove... even though there is a slight variation in the tune.
