  "athadi Ammadi thaen mottuthaan" from Idayathi Thirudathae rebirthed as "Sikatha Situondru Kailvandha" in Sethu. Its just my observation. I am a Raja fan too. Raja himself once in a TV interview 12 years ago said music is a cheating job. With seven swaras you repeat in combinations.

  I am trying to be an intellectual but I am not trying to disrespect Maestro too. He is a genius no doubt. 12 years ago Maestro's Malluram Ninaivugal, Raja from his own mouth uttered that seven swaras stuff. He himself said he is cheating people. It was an one hour program. I never said he copies cheaply like other MDs. But he as a genius make it different each time and its hard to find out it was used before by him.

  IR does repeat his own tunes. Even one song in Hey Ram is a repeat. Mind you, whenever he does this, he does not change things a wee bit, I mean, he repeats the whole song. No cut-and-past from various songs. It is just repeated, probably with a different orchestration. But compared to his output these cases are very few.

  Surprised to see a CD on a `duty paid shop' (new name for shops where they sell foreign items, don't know whether smuggled) which has songs of both HR & Thirunelveli and grabbed it (price was a surprise, Rs 115)! After a few listenings, my brief comments:
  
  -`OlakkudisaiyilE' (TV) is my pick of all the songs in the CD... an authentic Raja melody, with his trademark beats (pAdavA, kaNNA unaiththEdukiREn like) but with much better recording. There are two versions both had so-so singing (one by Biji Narayanan who tries to imitate KJY & the other by Bhava) and I like the female version better, for the lyric is better
  
  -`nee pArtha' (HR) impressed me on the first listening itself, a lovely melody with pleasing BGM. Lyric is mediocre and unfitting, Hindi might be better..
  
  More comments later....
  
  The cover says all songs are penned by Vaali, is it correct? (Some may ask why suspect the CD cover..it has `Ilayaraja' as the singer for OlaikkudisayilE female version... that's why!)

  Had a chance to see Kannukkul Nilavu here in Dallas on Sat. Pretty disappointing movie. Only the following were worth for the $7 I paid,
  
  1. The song "Roja Poonthootam" and its picturisation.
  
  2. Two BGM pieces. One when 'Thailai Vasal' Vijay see's Vijay in a restaurant. The bit which comes at that time, man trust me, it was awesome (there was a comment in the theatre, "motai motai thaaan"). Another piece is when Vijay begins to recollect his old thoughts. Beautiful.
  
  3. Last was the Hey Ram preview which was shown. Guys trust me, its tooooooo awesome. The song 'ram ram' blends and was soo good that I won't ask for anything more. Its screening this weekend in Dallas and I'm gonna make it. Kamal is just awesome and the techie stuff seems amazing in the preview.

  I happened to see the preview too...It was sort of a montage(is that the right word?) of the ebst scenes(?) in the movie.
  The music for the trailer stood out and believe me folks, the song Hey Ram sounded extremely effective onscreen!
