I'm just curious to have a list of Tamil film songs where Piano has played a major role.
Especially songs with good Piano vamping throught the song or attractive preludes and interludes.
A.M Raja used Acoustic Piano tremendously.. His styles are excellent. MSV, IR, ARR have used piano in many songs.
I can give you some samples..
1. Nilavum malarum paadudhu
2. Unnidam mayangugiren
3. Ellorum nalam vaazha
4. Enna Enna Vaarthaigazho
5. En vaanile
6. Punnagai mannan theme
7. Pootukkazh pottaalum
8. Hello Mr. Ethirkatchi
etc.. etc..
Could you guys pls. help me in finding out rare songs with a good piano background?
Naveen.

Hi,
Naveen:
There is a great piano interlude in Vanam enna in Vetriveza, I love playing it.
I july mandam vandal, second interlude, the piano piece is reall great and it was played by rahman with a great feel.
Has anyone heard a song called
Sondangalai vazthi sindhu paduven...from Nilave malare....has some great piano whamps...
old songs:
opening piece in rajavin parvai --
opening piece in Padinor padinal ada thondurm.
Btw :guys, Naveen is one of the few great piano players I have met. (Hope this is East Moline Naveen! working in J.Deere.)

Hi Kamesh,
>Your 2 paise worth was not worth 2 paise >actually:-)
>
>Because I dont remember listening to any piano >prelude in Thendral Vandhu Ennnai thodum. I have >only hear a String prelude. Please check again.
Oh! you got that one; didn't you ;-)
how about atleast 1 paise :-)
Anyway, the prelude I was mentioning was not a very striking prelude at first listening; it is very very subtle. What I am talking about is the very first 2 bars of the song (after which the actual guitar piece takes over and then followed by strings).
I will write the notes for you (in carnatic swaras ofcourse). See whether you can grasp
what I'm trying to say.
Defaults: s r2 m2 p n3 S
1st bar: | P p S R - P p S R - P p S R - P p S R |
2nd bar: | M m n R - M m n R - M m n R - M m n R |
This piano piece starts off by itself (all alone).
But if you hear beyond the guitar piece (which starts at the 3rd bar), the above-mentioned piano piece
continues (at a lower volume in the background) all the way thru the guitar piece of the prelude.
I am glad that atleast you asked me this question!
Now, lets re-negotiate. Is it 1 or 2 paise? :-)

Hi Srikanth,
Nice to see you in this thread.. yeah I'm still living in East Moline... where are you now? wow.. thanks for introducing me... 'Raja vin paarvai' is a great song.. I still love piano in old songs..
I sequenced 'Enna Enna Vaarthaigazho' song recently.. You can check in Rjay's midi page. www.geocities.com/rjaymidi
Few days back I started my own homepage (www.geocities.com/njebaraj) I uploaded few piano solos played by me.. I sequenced 'Punnagai Mannan theme' too.. you can check that.. I want to give more importance to piano in that page. if anybody is interested in contributing piano solos or piano concertos, you are most welcome... soon I'll change the name of my homepage to 'Piano Page'..

I very much like the prelude in 'azhagu aayiram'. It sounds like piano to me. I especially like part where raja slowly adds percussion to the solo piano piece, it gives a majestic start to the song.

I am sure your posting is worth more than 2 paise anyway. Thanks for all that info. I never noticed any piano in the opening of that song. I will listen more keenly the next time. Meanwhile my favorite Piano Background has always been the BGM of Mouna Raagam. It was so great. And IR did not stop with the title bit. He went on to improvise on it by adding strings, by bringing a pathos version , by bringing a fast version (when Karthick comes in)... OOOOF...
Mind Blowing. If you want to recall what I mean go to REX's site and seen in BGM tracks.
Now Thats what I call Music.
Hope you agree.

Hi Guys,
I happened to listen to this song yesterday. It had wonderful piano notes. The tune was similar to Unnidam Mayangugiren...
The lyrics go like these
'Kangalaal Naan varaindhen
Anbenum Ooviyame
Thenmalar marappadhundo...' (KJ Yesudas)
Can someone suggest which movie is this from
