Honestly I think India doesn't deserve someone talented and intelligent like AR Rahman. I think compared to his group of fans, there are double the amount of Deva and Raja fans. (Read that again, I'm not saying that there are no ARR Indian appreciators or fans)
Is it because Indians are unable to understand his style of music? Is it because deep inside, ghana and dhampakoothu are what they want?
If tomorrow, ARR decides to give up India music, I will be happy because he gets the recogniztion he deserves overseas and can concentrate on his western projects more. Read Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Jackson.

>>AIDS is an import (or conspiracy?) from west again<<
It's a known fact AIDs was first detected in Africa and was passed on to humans from animal bites. And what is 'conspiracy'? U mean AIDs don't really exist?
>>How many cases you come across each day / month / year? I have lived in TN & Kerala...I'm yet to encounter one such case in any of my personal circles; even the news paper / police reported cases will be definitely 1 in a mn no doubt..<<
Exactly. Ask the same question to an American on how many husbands they know who divorce their wifes bcos of rheumatism. My statement was in reply to >>In my 36 yrs of life, I've not seen a husband divorcing a wife in India because he can't stand her rheumatiod arthritis!<<
And don't forget, next to India and then Indonesia, the 4th most populated country in the world is US. The same mns live there as well.
>>US is far ahead in percentage terms w.r.t violence on women at home front!<<
U mean to say, in US more domestic violence gets reported. Bcos women there are more aware of their rights. In TN, we have songs like 'adikira kai thaan adikkum' and other cheap sentiments. If every woman who gets hit by her husband reports the case, we're talking about a revolution here.

Sorry about another digression in a chain of 'digressions'......
Whynot,
It is a widely known fact(of course which Americans refute as always) that the Americans are apparently responsible for the 'birth' of the HIV-virus in African monkeys as a direct consequence of their medical research in the 1960's /1970's.
EllamSatyam actually makes a point by mentioning 'conspiracy'.
As I have written a few times in the past, these kind of debates about 'our own' people(IR,ARR,etc..) are totally unproductive. Everyone is an individual with their own perceptions and views. Personally though a HCIRF,I am not an 'ARR-hater' in any way. He is doing a great job & needs sincere appreciation. Nevertheless, I note e...a:-'s point that you don't have to denounce your taste to glorify anyone.
Like many, I am irritated at 'ekam satyam' for starting this thread.
