Dear Friends,
Some people here written some points about Ramana's music.Actually what they want?. Whether they want the music to be enjoyed by them like private album. or they want the song must fit enough for the film which has situations. Most of the Ilaiyaraja songs normaly look like not good if you hear them when before the film released. Even when azhagi songs were released, this kind of opinions were expressed in webs, magazines etc. But IR's music is the one which has given life to that film. Like that people should not express anything with out seeing the movie. He has not released any album. He has released the film songs. Definitely, this will be like his other film works when you listen along with his bgm when you see the movie.
We are all nothing, comparing with his achievements in his life. So we should have some sense before criticising genius like IR. One friend expressed that this will be like another Devan. Actually any film will get the music what it deserves. First we should understand that.
I hope that every one will really understand that what I mean it.
Thanks

Sornam, I hope you are not responding to my post. I am more than aware of IR's genius. I dont criticize him, I only comment on his music. That too, very politely, as I am not music savvy and might have missed some subtleties. This is more like sharing my feelings with my fellow forummers, most of whom in this thread love IRs music. But, have you listened to any recent malayalam films songs of IR ? (eg. kochu kochu santhoshangal). There is a night and day difference between his tamil and malayalam compositions. It is rhythmic/catchy (chella kaRRE) , it is melodic (gana shAya brindaranyam), it is classical (shiva karu damaruga layamAi natham) . Why is this ? Is it because, IR is trying to 'satisfy' the tamil audience, but in malayalam he enjoys doing his own style ?

I lisetened to Ramana from Thaalam.com . On first listening, I felt what the heck is this guy doing. However I noticed that though the songs did not capture your attention they were flawless. So I decided to give it a second listening. Two of the songs are good. Vaana Ville takes the cake and vennilavin peyarai matrava is good. I do not understand why in every album he now has pushpavanam sing a song (probably there is an audiences for this kind of song). Oorukkoru katchi is the usual IR song (I am getting bored with these type of songs of his). The 'vaana ville' song is melodious and the interludes are beautiful and flow easily, the pallavi, charanam flow seamlessly and of course you cannot ignore the beautiful humming in the beginning. I doubt however if it would hit the charts. The songs are not with the trend. IR seemed to have gone back to his old style of having long pallavis and equally complicated charanams (though flowing). The trend however seems to be to keep the pallavis shorter and keep repeating the pallavi as much as possible (even in the charanams) so that it sticks, hence my doubt. Neverthless he has an audience in me (and from what I read here a few others aswell)- I am now listening to 'vaana ville' repeatedly.

Sornam,
Though the songs fit for the movie, there were times songs made movies especially Gnani did that. His Genius cannot be compared, but still has to be upto the mark (Ramarajan had great songs, Mohan became big with amazing songs by Gnani). so i would not second guess and will surely comment on the appeal and hearing pleasure. I just got to hear one song, Vaana ville, Raaja as always renders with such finnesse. I dont feel the other songs very appealing to me (my personal opinion).
AgniNatchram was one movie, was just plain songs!!!
Where is that Gnani? Now that he has become Maestro, his concentration is somewhere else where no one has dare to even step in "BGM". He has been the emperor and will be forever i guess!!
NagaS: You are correct SS-> kadavulee!!!

"Any film will get the music it deserves" - you mean, IR makes the judgement that this film is going to be a crap even before he starts scoring for the film, and then puts out some junk tunes that befit the eventual merit of the film? This is supremely sanctimonious logic that flies in the face of his umpteen magical scores for dud films
C'mon, is he charging any lesser for scoring such sub-standard tunes? Is he being forced at gunpoint to commit these films? Isn't the producer (Oscar Films) going all out to promote IR's music in several media - press, outdoor - and even allowing the luxury of re-recording at Austria? By any professional standards, IR has no defence for such sloppy work.
Why can't IR limit his film assignments to the odd Bharathi or Azhagi, movies that challenge him and provide some scope, and refuse to do films such as Devan, Ramana, etc.? His refusal to look beyond Sadhana Sargam and Hariharan, his template-driven approach of - one pathos/thathuvam song (sung by himself), one folk duet (pushpavanam), one group song, his continuing compromise with inane lyrics, his annoying electronic rhythms.. pointers to a certain nonchalance and carelessness
This is simple non-professionalism, IMO

Suresh, add Ivann to Barathi and Azhagi. Beautiful songs which makes it an exceptional album in recent times. If only there is one song like 'Enai en seithaai..' in every movie irrespective of whether the movie is a masala one or a challenging subject, it will be a great contribution to tfm.
i too differ with sornam's statement. a film music album is an album and will be reviewed as an album. how the songs fit in the movie will be enjoyed when we see the movie. when we listen to it in our palyers, its an album. it will be enjoyed and reviewed accordingly. sadly Ramana is disappointing for me. After 'Appadi Parkruthana..' and 'Enna Solli' there were some expectations for this album but no songs merited a second run IMO.

I listened to ramana but guys don't worry I wont spoil your festival. This is a gentle reminder that if you have the courtesy to stick to your court alone then me and others will not sprinkle salt on your wound. So let us live as you would like to live.
Bye...I am not that bad. I will not hurt you when you are already done with.
I hope all here will take this in right sense and make the TFMpage a real fightless , informative and music addicting forum.

Suresh,
I agree with you on your comments even though I am a hardcore IR comments.
I heard the news that the score of all the three oscar movies are composed on five days. IR gave 55 tunes out of which 22 was selected. I don't know why IR is not taking more time and come up with more catchy tunes. Is it a tune mela or what?
I am also thinking that he is not doing justice these days. In my opinion, he should restrict and select his movies(which may be few), but to do a really good work. He is capable but somehow he is not driven to use it these days.
He could churn so many different tunes in short time because his fundamental understanding of karnatic and western are so good. But some how offlate they are not put to proper use.

I loved the 'vAnavillE vandadenna IppOdhu' song. Yet another wonderful melody in the raga Dharmavathy, after Aye AyyAsAmi, MeeNdum meeNdum VA.
Though I enjoyed this number very much, I expected IR's vintage style of powerful orchestration in the interludes. Instead, it was a softie (today's synthetic style??), though rich in melody.
The DeepavaLi song, 'vAnam adhiravE' reminded me of NAyakan's 'Andhi mazhai megam' and Kasi's 'NAn kANum ulagangaL'
'VeNNilavin peyarai mAtravA' in raga 'JOg' sounds more like a KR song than one by Maestro, thanks to its arrangement.
Overall, a decent soundtrack for 'an' MD. Not IR!
Like in the past few cases, Sadhana is increasingly featuring in IR's albums. I wonder why someone like Chitra/Sujatha/SwarNa wasn't given this number? I felt the same after listening to Azhagi' and 'EMV'. Sadhana, though normally good, struggles at higher notes in this song. And of course her poor diction puts you off at some places.
Chitra, where art thou? You are needed badly out here. Also, can somebody please issue Hariharan a one-way ticket to Mumbai?
It appears that IR wants to give his best for the BGM composition, which he enjoys the most.
